Edit: Just watched the video. And I'm just more disappointed. The money ran out finally, so instead of giving us another book like we've been begging her to do for years, she sets up a website to charge people for ebooks of the ones we already read years ago?

This will devolve into one big mess o' Potter slash fiction really really quickly I bet. Robin Hobb had it right, fanfics are typically tripe and far more times than not an insult to the original author and the fans of the series. I'd really hope Rowling won't be encouraging Potter fan fiction. She should know better.

Apparently a lucky few can enter early by 'following the owl'.

She's too lazy to move into anything else, and too greedy to abandon the IP... but she's probably running low on ideas. So, why not pull a George Lucas?

Create a place for people to submit their own fanfiction, make a bit of money from them there, and then (when you find a diamond somewhere in that rough) simply canonize that 'author' and make some more money from their work.

That's how Lucas made money between trilogies (and during and after the most recent). It's an excellent way to keep mining the same dead quarry by paying a skeleton crew to mine it for you.
