Id rather have my scrotum removed through my throat than go to a god forsaken country like North Korea, not only is there NOTHING fun or important,or any historic site to visit,it is preety much like prison as you cant do anything other than walk or be arrested, and its like that for the population as well.

But hey, good luck and dont look them in the eye :p
I'd love to go. Fear of personal safety aside. I'd want to see for myself how the people are faring under Kim Jong-Il's rule. At the very least, it'd be interesting seeing what information the guide feeds you, what achievements they want to show off, etc. How they give tours would say a lot about the country.

Besides, it's not like the people living there aren't human. Xenophobia thrives on xenophobia.

That's an incredibly chance you're getting, even though NK is a horrible country I would love to go there just to see with my own eyes how people live. I have no doubt that it would be a very valuable experience to have. A scary one, probably a horrible one, but value comes in many shapes and sizes. Really, praise yourself lucky that you'll be one of the few people being able to take a peek inside that fortress of a country.

PS: Why do I think that walking through Pyong Yang would give me City 17 flashbacks.

I don't understand why you'd subject yourself to this trip, even if it is for someone else. Good luck.

Just do what they tell you and you'll (probably) be fine.

How the hell are they letting you in North Korea. The last people were journalists and have been taken hostage

I hope you return soon. When you come back, you can badmouth those filthy Kim Jong Supporters and give them the finger.

Can do, chief. For you and all the poor buggers that don't get to leave once they're in. Keep the head down over there and always ALWAYS think before you speak. Bon chance!

Books are forbidden? Does that mean any books, or just specific ones?

I just went on wikipedia (okay so it's wikipedia but just in case) and it says that as of December 2008 tourism is temporarily suspended. Somebody please correct me if i (or wiki) are wrong, but if it's correct, then how are you going there?

And lets not forget, they are gonna start a war with S. Korea soon, and they got a nuke,so crazy sh*t is bound to happen,so why not visit France or Greece instead!
While France or Greece may be very scenic this time of year, I'd think North Korea has some political factors that make it a place of interest. I wouldn't call it "tourism" in the literal sense, more like an experience.

People visit old concentration camps all the time. Wouldn't it be so much better to see an actual dictatorship operating with your own eyes?

Safe? Maybe not. A once in a lifetime opportunity? Definitely.

He said he's going through China. Is tourism suspended to the world, or just Western countries?

Edit: I went on Wikipedia's Tourism in North Korea [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_North_Korea] page and it seems that the suspension only applies to tours of the Kaesong region for South Korea.
