On a scale of 1-100, what's your preferred volume level with, and without a headset on a computer?

Personally I prefer an 18-20 range either way since after 70 you can start to hear the small fizzing sound in the background, and under 18 is more along the lines of when everyone else is sleeping kind of volume.

Haha there's an engineering joke about unit-less degrees of sound. "I can build you a speaker that goes all the way to 11!" Anyways...I prefer it on the softer side so I can hear people around me still.

I'm Commander Shepard and this is the most boring thread on the escapist...

Hmm, it usually depends on the quality of the speakers/headphones. If the quality is clear and crisp then I don't need the volume that high (around 20-40 I reckon) to hear all the detail. The opposite applies.

I only use headphones, and keep it fairly low. It's now on 30, but I'm using psp noise limiting buds, so I can put it at 100 without there being a difference the the actual volume (max around 88db).

25-50. Dezibel that is.
I'm sorry, I'm a geek. I can't talk about volume using only a subjective-based 1-100 system.

I have to crank that crap all the way up to maximum volume (or as my Dad used to say 'trouser flappingly loud').

If you can't hear ringing in your ears after listening to metal then you're not doing it right!

Through my PC speakers, I try and keep it around 30-50 since my TV doesn't have the best sound, but it's not awful.

On my 5.1 system though, I love having it loud. An explosion that sends vibrations right through my sofa is just awesome. And if you play horror games, when there's a silence and then something breaks or falls you're more like "OH JEEZ WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT"

I don't own headphones, though I would like to invest in some.

my computer, with headphones, is currently set to volume 22. it has no external speakers, so i dunno about without headphones

my iPod NEEDS to be at max volume or else the sounds of cars when i'm walking through town drowns out the tunes

I have very good headphones so on my laptop my volume is 1/25, the lowest setting. and all videos are played at half volume.

About 40 for games with music.
About 50 for games alone.
About 55 for anime/videos.
About 100 for playing the music.

Oh well, depending on what I need to do. If I'm sitting at the computer of course I'm going to turn it down, but I use this thing as a regular TV too and you wouldn't believe how quiet some shows are. I have to crank the volume up to around 2/3 to be able to understand BBC properly.

I have no clue how high my PC is, it's just twist the volume nob and shit gets loud. No number or mute warning. I try to keep it as low as I can and still hear it; but I usually wear headphones.

Our TV, on a spectrum of 0 to 100 is kept in the 40-41 area.
