Sorry this kinda ended up a bit long, I started typing and just couldn't stop.

Maya walked along a dusty track, looking at the empty desert around her. Sand, rocks and a scattering of urban debris lay as far as she could see. Over the wind she could hear whispers of voices both near but also somehow far, as if separated from her by an invisible barrier. She kept moving and promptly spotted something orange lying in the middle of the road. What felt like about a minute passed before she reached it, a small but brilliantly-coloured fox sleeping peacefully.

"Takeda?" She said in a doubtful voice, and put her hand out to stroke it's fur. Before she was even half way however the fox melted into the ground and disappeared from view. "Huh?" Maya glanced around confusedly, unsure of what to do. Suddenly in a moment the scene switched from day to night. From the darkness came pale figures with cold dead eyes, faces weirdly contorted as if they were wearing hideous masks. Eerie chanting filled the air, to be driven out temporarily by the small girl's frightened screams. She ran off the track into the wastes, the strange people following her at a mechanically constant pace. She ran towards what appeared to be a tall and thin tree, only to find when she was at its base that it was actually a impossibly sized women. Even though the giant's face was obscured from view she recognised her immediately.

"Mummy! Help!" The huge mass stayed entirely still. Maya curled up in fear at her mother's feet as her pursuers closed in on her, the leading thing drawing so close she could see every greying hair of it's stubble-like beard. It reached out with one hand towards her, it's claw-like nails grasping like the talons of a predatory bird. She screamed one more time as the undead skin brushed against her face...

She woke to find herself lying on a slightly damp towel on the shelf of the supermarket store. The cover she had put across the previous night had fallen down again, letting faint rays of the early morning sun struggling through the grimy rooftop windows land on the temporarily constructed den. Besides her the boy she had met only the day before, Takeda, was quietly still sleeping. Although she couldn't see him, she could hear his steady breathing close by. She shuddered as she remembered the dream she had just had, reached down to feel the towel beneath her and realised to her embarrassment why it was wet. She carefully climbed out from the hiding place making as little noise as possible, and quickly grabbed her makeshift mattress before creeping off to the nearest clothing aisle.

There Maya shoved the humiliatingly towel under a pile of sweaters, before finding the children's clothes section. Although for until recently she hadn't bothered to change her garments, now she had met Takeda she didn't want him to think she was a baby who couldn't take care of herself. Even though she was invisible, she instinctively looked around to check if anyone was watching. The shop was still deserted, so she hasteiy pulled off her unwashed and in places damp dress and selected several new items of clothing, including a pair of summer shorts, a cheerful t-shirt and a pink hat that was a little too large for her. On the side of one of the stands was an old mirror, smeary from hundreds of fingers that had ran along it in days gone past, Maya bounced up to it to view her new look.

"Oh..." The mirror remained empty, she was still invisible. The little girl screwed up her eyes and placed her hands on her head, trying to concentrate on making herself seeable again. For a moment she felt different, like something had been briefly lifted. When she opened her eyes however there was still nothing but the shop in the reflection.

"Hmmm, hmm hmm hmmmm!" Maya jumped and turned around, behind her a large menacing women carrying a bunch of keys walked past humming a simple tune. She appeared to be patrolling the supermarket before it's early opening time. The child felt a stab of fear running through her, for although both she and her companion were invisible their shelter and the remains of last night's dinner weren't. She ran back to where Takeda was still asleep and gently prodded him while whispering urgently in his ear.

"Wake up, there's someone coming!"

Great post, Jojo.
Takeda flinched at the whispering in his ear, his eyes snapping open. He frantically looked for the source of the sound for a moment before recognizing it as Maya. Rubbing his eyes, Takeda took a deep breath and felt his body surge with energy.

The kitsune sat up and prompty bumped his head on the shelf. With a groan, he crawled out into the aisle. "Okay, let's get away from here." he said softly, reaching out to her. He first touched fabric, but then he felt her hand take his.

Quietly, they went down the aisle and peeked out. The woman wasn't in sight, but her humming could be heard faintly. Takeda tugged on Maya and started running towards the front door. He put a hand out in front of him to shove the door open, but only ended up running into it with a dull *clunk*.

He sighed and rubbed his nose, sore from the impact. Then he grabbed the door handle and pulled it open. The two ran out and down the street a bit before stopping.

"So what should we do now?" he asked her, panting slightly to catch his breath.

Adam sighed melodramatically

"If only, but alas that ability extends only to touch"

Looking outside, he studied the people walking outside as a tense silence seemed to stir in the coffee shop

"I guess all we can do is head back to the scene of the crime, see what we can learn from there...that is, if you wish to pursue this avenue of investigation. I'm only in it out of a sense of curiosity, and I have no idea what may drive you to search for this mysterious being. Unless its too dangerous for someone like you, that is"

A coy smile growing on his face as finished his explanation

"Well... on the way out I picked up these" Maya thrust a slightly stale bun of yesterday's bread into Takeda's hands and took a bite into her own. "It's a bit chewy" she said through a mouthful of the food "but it'll do for now." As she swallowed the first piece, her stomach suddenly turned and she felt like she was about to vomit. A moment later though and the feeling passed, replaced by the general tiredness she had felt since the previous night.

"There's one idea I had yesterday..." Maya mumbled after she had finished her bun, looking somewhat embarrassed "I liked watching T.V. when I lived at home."

This was perhaps a bit of an understatement; for until a couple of months ago Maya had spent up-to three hours a day watching an old second-hand television which could just about display colour. With no other children she was allowed to play with, and a busy mother who had to split her time between a menial job, housework and schooling her daughter, there was often little else to keep her entertained during the day. The children's programs had brought her no end of joy with their happy stories and fun antics, she had often dreamed of visiting the place where these wondrous things took place.

"The Jinan Television Station is not very far from here, I found it a while back but was too nervous to go in. There were too many scary men at the entrances. Maybe you could come with me and we could see some shows for real, and watch the people in their houses watching the shows...please!"

"Misanthropy? Nah, I'd just call it paranoia with maybe a little bit of social anxiety thrown in." Rezetta shrugged, tugging idly on one of her shirt sleeves. "I do prefer to be by myself most of the time, though."
She cocked her head to one side as Lily told her she wanted to show her something. Was it possible the other woman had some sort of power of her own? Lily seemed to know quite a bit about those with abilities, or so Zetta had surmised from the way Lily spoke. Besides, Zetta had felt from the beginning that there was something different about Lily, and not just because she'd somehow known about the spooks in the diner.

Well. Only one way to find out.
"Alright then. What is it you plan on showing me? I hope it doesn't involve more fires," Zetta said, a half-smile on her face.

Not even close, dude.
Takeda ate the bun happily, not at all bothered by it's slightly-stale taste. It was perfectly fine to him, though he kinda wished that lady would show up and give them another box-lunch.

"That sounds like fun." he said, sticking the last of the bun in his mouth. He hadn't watched much TV in his time, since he spent so little time indoors. But he was still interested in seeing what it was like there. "Show me the building, and we can sneak inside."

"Yay!" Maya shouted and started to skip ahead whilst chanting "TV! TV! TV!", before turning back to Takeda. "Can you do magic again like you did yesterday so people can see us while we're walking there? Only I'm now wearing an orange t-shirt with a smiley sun on it, blue shorts and a pink hat with pretty flowers on it."

She then led the kitsune down many streets and alleyways. At first she was bubbling with the excitement of the trip, but as the minutes dragged by and their journey kept on going and going she gradually became more despairing of the situation. To make matters worse her tiredness had given way to a dull headache and she was sure her right arm was even more swollen than it had been the previous night. Now they were in the inner parts of the city, the traffic around the pair only increased the already uncomfortable noise level.

"The station was near here!" Maya said frustratedly for about the fifth time "Where has it gone?" Presently she turned a corner and spotted a high yellow office block. In front of the two big glass doors stood four burly and suited men, each checking people over as they walked in and out. She smiled with relief as she read the huge symbols written across the front.

"Look Takeda, there it is! Now we just have to find a way to get in..."

"Only on Thursdays" Lily said, giving a wry smile. "I don't think I've ever shown anyone this before, except fot the people that... Unlocked it..." She began, giving a look of remorse when she talked about the people she had killed with her first use of her power. She cast her eyes around the room looking for something to demonstrate with, eventually settling on the light above them. She focused on it for a moment, then a faint squeaking noise was heard, and the frosted glass shading it moved to the right, and the halogen bulb above slowly lowered itself, and dropped in a controlled descent into Lily's outstretched hand.

Gabriel sat a little straighter.

"You dare question me?" He asked in a faux-offended voice. A moment later he sagged again, looking kinda pleased with the joke.

"Sure I'd like to investigate what happened thare. You mad? In the time I've been in this here town the worst I have seen here is a small bushfire from some pyrokinetic, and suddenly, bam." He hit the chair, and he started to speak a little louder.

"There's two..whatevers fighting, some fire appears out of nowhere, as do you, and I see the greatest massing of 'others' I've ever seen. I'd be straight mad if I wouldn't look into this."

He lost a little of his enthousiasm after that.

"Besides, I'm not bound to anything here. No job or whatever."

Standing up smoothly, Adam tossed his hat back onto his head and grabbed his cane

"Unless you have something to take care of, I'd suggest we scout the area of destruction, find out how closely the police are watching the place, and make a plan on how to get inside"

Takeda did the same as he had the day before, making her visible to her specifications. He also returned himself to visibility, his hood already up and his tail hidden. He followed her loyally through the city, trying his best to figure out where they were going. Even though he had no idea where she wanted to go, and could only tell her where they had already been.

Finally he saw the building she had been seeking. "Wow." he said softly, looking up the building. It had several large broadcasting dishes on the top of it, as well as a tall spire. He wondered if there was any way they'd be able to see those closer.

"Do you think we should find a back door? Or do you think we could sneak in the front if we were invisible?"

Rezetta was silent for a moment, staring at the light as it seemed to move itself away from the ceiling and into Lily's hand. She blinked, then a slow grin appeared on her face. "So, a telekinetic, huh? See, I've made a few people see things flying around their heads before. Only, that was never real." She rubbed her chin thoughtfully, eyes still on the bulb that rested in Lily's hand. "Well, at least I know for sure now that you won't run to the police later, crying out a story about some half-demon chick with weird powers."
She reached forward for her glass of water, finishing it in one gulp this time. Letting the now empty glass dangle from her fingers, she gave a relieved sort of smile. "Seriously now. It's nice to know somebody else who isn't quiet 'normal' either, finally."

"I'm bored of being invisible!" Maya complained "let's find another way to get in."

She led Takeda around the side the building, past several huge bins laden with stinking garbage which gave of such a stench that it almost made her choke. Once she had past these though the air cleared and she spotted a window that was slightly ajar. She crept up to it and stood on tiptoes to peep in.

"There's no-one in there!" she whispered. "There's a table and a computer and lots of paper. I'm going to climb in." She gripped the window sill and tried to pull herself up, only to fall back down moments later. "It's too high for me" she said with annoyance. "You'll have to help me get up."

"Oh..yeah, sure." Gabriel said, following Adam out of the bar. But as soon the wooden door was opened, something hit him like a foul smell would.

"I don't think you need to look very far." He said, coughing.

"Perhaps it would be best if you stay on the sidelines"

Adam suggested, a touch of concern in his voice as Gabriel coughed. He didn't feel whatever was making Gabriel suddenly cough, whether it be a presence or a smell, because his own inner abilities blocked his senses from such unpleasantries.

"Okay, here. I'll give you a step." Takeda said, standing under the window and putting his back to the wall. He cupped his hands in front of him and let Maya step into them, then she stepped up and put her other foot on his shoulder. She was surprisingly light, and he had no trouble holding her up.

"I'll be right up after you." he said, and she pulled herself through the window. Turning around, he brushed off his shirt and wiped his hands on his pants. Then he grabbed the window sill and scrabbled his feet against the wall to push himself up. With a grunt he pulled himself over the edge, then his foot caught and he awkwardly tumbled into the room.

With a nervous giggle he picked himself up. "That was fun." he said to Maya, looking around the room.

"Hmmmm..." Maya looked around slightly disappointed "There doesn't seem to be much in here." She went over to the messy desk against one side of the wall and picked up a few sheets of paper. She glanced at them and then tossed them aside, letting them fall in a heap onto the floor. Next she pulled open the drawers and searched them, throwing many possessions behind her until she found a treasure that she held up in triumph. Even the dim light from the overhead bulb and the grimy window reflected brightly off the pair of black sunglasses.

"Cool!" she exclaimed and put them on, balancing the oversized glasses on her nose carefully so they wouldn't fall off. Across the room a women's coat was hanging on a hook, Maya approached it with glee and with a little pulling managed to get it down. She proudly slipped her arms into the dark expensive material and wrapped it around herself, leaving the buttons undone. Although the coat would have only reached down to the waist of an adult, on the little girl it brushed against her ankles.

"Takeda, look at me, I'm a film star!" She rolled up the much-too-long sleeves of the coat and admired herself in a small mirror upon the desk. She thought that she looked very grown-up and elegant. She then hurried over the room and very slowly opened the door, before peering out into the corridor beyond.

"There's some people out there, but I think it will be alright now we're got in. You can quickly dress up too if you want to, then we can go and find where they're filming right now!"

Takeda couldn't help but smile and giggle as he watched Maya get all dressed up. He could tell she wasn't nearly as glamorous as she thought, but he didn't want to say anything. They were having fun.

He looked around quickly as she opened the door. He grabbed a hat and looked at it appraisingly. He didn't know what to call it, but it looked classy. Pulling back his hood, he put the round bowler hat on his head, then he took a nearby scaft and coiled it around his neck.

"Okay, I'm ready to go." he said, barely containing his laughter at their 'disguises'. He pulled the door open slowly and peeked out with Maya, then started walking out. At first he tried to look stealthy, but he just got weird looks from people. So he started just walking normally. He still got a few looks, but they seemed to be more accepting that he and Maya belonged there.
