Prey: A Character Driven RP [FINISHED]

The officer who Blackrose had grabbed attempted to struggle his way out of her grip, then feeling the knife against his throat froze. The others looked surprised at the young woman's sudden move and looked expectantly at their leader for instructions.

"Ne pas oublier les ordres de Rin, ils doivent être tués ... tirez pas!"

They all simultaneously drew their guns from their holsters and attempted to fire towards the four, unaware that Lily had forced their safety catches on. The surprise on their faces only increased when nothing happened.

Meanwhile in the ambulance Rin turned to address Dr. Strauss and Alec.

"I apologise for the change in the plan, it was too risky to get you out of that situation any other way. Fortunately I was able to use my powers to collect together some of the more loyal remainders of my human followers and disguise them as the authorities. Rest assured they shall dispatch justice quickly and effectively to those who deserve it. Dr. Strauss, I hope your illness isn't too bad?"

Rin's orders... So I was right; they're working for her. "So much for getting away cleanly." Zetta got to her feet after she scooped Takeda's covered body back into her arms. It was a burden to carry, but she'd rather have her hands full than run the risk of the wrong people finding a dead kitsune. With the way things were continuing to go for her odd little group, there'd certainly be no time to give the body a proper burial. She just hoped they were able to dispose of it safely--and quickly.

"Now's probably a good time to run. And Blackrose, they're working for Rin. Might as well take out the guy you've got there." Zetta spoke quickly as she eyed the fake officers. They were still baffled by the lack of response from their guns, but it wouldn't be long before they checked the safeties. Without waiting for the others to reply, she turned and ran for the nearest building to duck behind the wall.

Best to stay out of sight and out of range until we come up with a plan of escape. Or attack, she thought as she waited to see if the others would follow her.

Dr. Strauss gasped as the strange drug coursed through his veins, he could almost feel the viruses reacting to it... but that would be ridiculous. Dr. Strauss nearly hit his head on the ceiling of the van as he got up. He looked around, and saw Alec... and... a police officer... no, it couldn't be. There's just no way I'd be that lucky.

"Rin, you need to abandon your plans for world domination," he told her simply, "What are you? A comic book villain?" He held up his apparently charred hand, "My condition is worsening. The contaminants in me could go airborne any day now. I need to find a cure. And you're going to help me... not even you could survive this." Then Dr. Strauss realized something that had been bothering him, "Where's Maya? Damn it Rin, what have you done to her?" He nearly shouted the last question.

The leading man who had been pretending to be an officer and his closest assistant continued to stare at their guns with a vaguely confused expression; however the other two were quicker on their feet. One leapt at the still standing Gabriel with his gun held above his head as if it was a club, the other advanced towards Zetta but as she fled instead switched his attentions to Lily, cracking his knuckles and flexing his arms aggressively. Meanwhile a muffled thud came the apparently empty roof of the building that Zetta sheltered by and moments later a couple of tiles tumbled down onto the ground with a clatter, as if something heavy had just landed on it.

As this was happening back in the ambulance Rin grinned toothily at Dr. Strauss.

"There's no need to be alarmed, she's standing no more than a couple of feet away from where you lie now. Amusing how such a simple trick could fool an intelligent man like you, her lack of visibility exists solely inside your head, even when viewed as a photo or on television. Reach out to your left if you don't believe me. As for your illness I can help you, as long as you help me in return... and world domination? That sounds a little dramatic even for me, my plan will have world-wide implications but I'll tell you everything once we're safely back at my center of operations: the Ark."

The woman then turned her attention to Alec.

"I'm glad you've made it here too, even though I had to step in here's your payment for a sucessful mission accomplished."

She took a few bundles of notes and threw them through a small gap at the dazed-looking American.

"I think they're euros, I got my loyal group you saw back there to steal a few bags from a bank at the same time as when they picked up these vehicles. Should be enough there to live off for a while and there will be greater rewards if you can do what I need. So tell me, can you use a corpse to speak with the spirit of the person even after many days have passed?"

"Aw hell no." Gabriel muttered as the gun-would-be-club wielding man-would-be-officer advanced on him. He frantically dug into his pockets, finally emerging with a hand full of dark powder. He threw it in the air right in front of him, and the man flinched evasively. Gabriel quickly pulled his sleeve over his hand and thrust into the air. The man was suddenly covered by a cloud of thick smoke. He dropped his gun, and started to scream, all the while brushing off invisible things off his arms and legs.

"Gotta love spell components." Gabriel whispered quietly to himself as he shook his sleeve, attempting to get the powder off it and eying the two gents that were yet to realise that their guns wouldn't work.

 

[Cap'n Ninja]

"Voulez-vous vraiment de le faire?" Lily asked the officer, speaking to him and the others around him. "We've already made your weapons useless" switching back to English. Their English should have been good enough to understand her next sentence. "Do you really think we can't make you worse than that? This is your one warning. Vous tous. Run."

The man who Gabriel had thrown powder over screamed and shuffled backwards on the ground rubbing his arms and legs as if trying to remove something. The other attacker glanced between Lily and his floored comrade, looking a lot less sure than he had a few seconds before. A final look at Lily's self-assured expression was enough to make up his mind and he fled from the scene, along with the assistant who had still been inspecting his gun. This left apart from the two followers who had been incapacitated by Gabriel and was Blackrose's hostage respectively just one remaining opponent, the leader of the group. He held up his broken gun in the air slowly.

"Okay... I surrender" he said in heavily accented English "Please let go my friend go and we will go away. Maybe Rin will have mercy and forgive us for our failure." his eyes flicked up to the rooftops above where Zetta sheltered "Don't think this is over for you, I get feeling we all being watched by her."

Meanwhile Maya listened to the conversation between Rin and the others, she felt pleased that Dr. Strauss had asked about her and would have liked to remove her invisibility so he knew she was okay but she didn't want the unfriendly officer to know where she was. She moved closer to the doctor and tugged on his coat whilst carefully avoiding skin-contact.

"I'm here" she whispered "Please don't let the police take me to prison, I'm really sorry I stole lots of things but I would have had nothing to eat if I hadn't. Why is Rin here, does she work for them?"

"I think," Strauss whispered back to the invisible Maya without moving his mouth or taking his eyes off Rin, "they work for Rin... this isn't good."


Then, so Rin could hear, "Rin, damn it. Don't you get it? If my condition gets any worse, everyone will be dead. The viruses and bacteria running through my system could go airborne any day now if my arm is any indication."

"What the...?" Zetta, who had just been peeking around the building to see what the others were doing, jumped as she heard a heavy thud on the rooftop above her. She glanced up in time to see a few tiles fall from the roof and stepped to the side to avoid being hit in the head. Was it another present from Rin?

From back where the others will still standing, she heard the scream of one of the fake officers and the faint voice of Lily and, a moment later, another of the officers. Zetta pursed her lips, wondering if she should go back to them. She looked back up at the roof above her and remembered what happened back in her uncle's house. Perhaps...

"Are you that voice from earlier?" she called out. "Something Goch, right? I don't suppose you're here to help us get our friends back?"

Alec was dizzy from all of the commotion. He was still in disbelief of what just happened. He took the money and talked in a tired voice hoping Rin would STFU give him some quiet time.

"Yes, I could talk to the dead through their corpses, and I could see unborn children as long as the target has a soul or an almost developed brain. I don't think I have the energy to go through talking to the dead more than once per week and I already did that. Please let me get some sleep, I'm really confused and I just want to get this over with and bring Maya to stay with me."

Alec turned to where he thought Maya was and assured her that he didn't mean it in a creepy way.

 

[JoJo]

A deep throaty voice came from above Zetta, one which the others were a little too far away to hear.

"Ha, for a human you're ain't too dumb, you might as well call me Goch, it'll be easier to say. Yes I'm here to help you but I'll have to wait until Rin's goons are gone before I make myself visible as she doesn't know I'm here yet. Um... is that a hurt kid you are holding there?"

The ambulance slowed down and stopped. Rin turned around fully to speak now she was no-longer driving.

"Yes doctor, I'm aware of your condition and I can assure you that once we get to the Ark you will have access to my lab facilities. Whilst he was alive Merlin quite enjoyed experimenting there so I expect you will be able to find the equipment you need. Alec, there will be some time to rest but the darkness doesn't stop moving for us alone and I have a very important task for you to complete. Trust me though when you find out the truth you'll be very happy to help me."

She paused to let what she had just said sink in before continuing.

"For the next stage of our journey I'm going to have to take us by teleportation to a near our destination. Therefore, I need you to confirm that you won't try to escape when I let you out, I'd really rather not have to get my follower to take you by force. One of you will have to keep Maya from running away too as due to a little misunderstanding last time we met the poor darling doesn't trust me much. Do I have your word then?"

To Maya, Dr. Strauss whispered (without moving his mouth or taking his eyes off Rin), "I will do everything I can to make sure Rin doesn't harm you... and if she does... she'll regret it."

Then, to Rin, "Speaking as the only person that's ever been a parent, I'll take care of Maya."

"To be fair, I'm not entirely human," Zetta said, still keeping her eyes on the roof. She couldn't see anything from where she stood; she wondered if the speaker was invisible. If she wasn't so tired, she would have been able to see through the illusion with a little focus if that was the case. As it was, Zetta just sighed and looked down at the bundle in her arms.

"This is... Was a, um, friend of ours." She spoke slowly, her brows knitting together as she recalled the explosion that had killed Takeda. The cause of the explosion was still a mystery to her, but she was certain it had something to do with Rin. "He got killed a little while back. We've had to, um, carry him around with us though; he's not human himself."

Alec turned slowly to Strauss.

"Do you even own a home here in Paris or even Jinan? I lived a couple years where Maya lived and I don't want her to move too far away from her mother. Since I live in Jinan it would be better for her to stay with me. I'm okay with you visiting of coarse but I don't trust a man who can kill if touched. I don't mean it personally but sometimes you have to look at the facts. Maybe after you're cured and I get a ticket to fly back to America, I'll hand her over. Right now I want to finish the first mission we got and call it a day, or few days...I'm going to make a last call to Mr.Kimura before I completely lose hope in him."

Alec dialed the number in his cell phone and called.

As Blackrose was about to pull the knife and run, she heard the leading officer speak. As she listened to his surrender, she slipped the belt off of the officer she held hostage, taking all of the tools he had on him. The last part he mentioned intrigued Blackrose.

"Wait, how is she watching us? Didn't she leave just now?" She asked.

The officer grunted and tilted his head slightly, considering how much to tell the inquiring woman.

"I don't think Rin is seeing us directly but I've had training from her to spot when things are hidden by magic and I believe one of her beasts hidden up on that roof-top. Please let my assistant go and we'll be gone, I swear."

What sounded like a large pair of wings beating filled the air around Zetta and a moment later a loud thud came from a patch of Earth a few meters away from the half-demon.

"I'll take a closer look if you don't mind Miss Not-entirely-human. Eh yeah, this is one of those foxy kids, can't think of the name for 'em right now. Damn shame, ain't many of those left now as there was when I was a young un'. What got him?"

Maya wasn't sure what to do, she didn't entirely trust either Dr. Strauss or Alec and certainly not Rin, but she definitely didn't want to be stranded alone in a foreign city which she knew would happen if she escaped.

Maybe Zetta and the others will come rescue me? she thought If they do then they'll come after Rin first, so I'll have to stay with these people. If I can get Alec to tell me where Mummy is, then when they rescue me they can take me to her!

Though it went against her basic instincts, Maya gradually reappeared just to left of the stretcher; crouching and staring nervously at those around her. As she did Rin laughed at the budding argument between the two men.

"Oh my, if you two really care that much why not pretend you're a gay couple and do a joint adoption? I can even provide a good character reference!"

Rin got out of the driving seat and walked round the back to open the door. Though there was signal, there was no reply on Alec's phone.

"Mr. Kimura? I remember now, you're the one first told me about him right? Don't expect a reply since he isn't near his phone but I guarantee you'll meet him soon enough. A fine man he is, almost in the league of my dear Merlin when it comes to science if I say so myself. Now come out and take my hand all of you, I have a special treat lined up for the four of us which is just a teleport away."

Dr. Strauss looked where he thought Maya was.

"Whether we go with Rin or not is entirely up to you Maya," he said simply and calmly, trying to reassure Maya while suppressing his own increasing worry. He was only visibly successful.



How the hell am I supposed to cure this? There are billions of viruses and malignant bacteria in my system... they've all been getting worse after all these years. How the hell can Rin be so bloody cavalier about this. Is she really that stupidly self-centered? If I'm right then... any day now my immune system will fail, and the viruses will be free to plague the world... same if someone kills me... either way... we're fucked.

"Rin did." Lily said, having quietly rounded the corner and listened to Y Goch's last sentence. "Now Zetta, could you explain why you came running here with Gabriel but not the sword and are now skulking around in a back alley with..." She paused to feel the edges of the masked speaker "Something with wings? I'm terribly confused." she admitted.

Rezetta set Takeda's body on the ground and pulled back the coat in order to let the unseen speaker take a look at him. "He's a kitsune, I think," Zetta said, looking in the direction where she believed Goch to be. Before she could answer his second question, Lily appeared around the corner.

"Yeah, about the sword..." She hesitated, reaching up with one hand to rake through her hair. "After you guys left the house, Rin appeared. She threatened my uncle and demanded for us to give her Excalibur. Gabriel got the sword and used it to fight her, instead. I thought he'd win it, but Rin eventually got a hold of it and disappeared." She grimaced at the memory. "It was then that Mr. Invisible over here warned us about the cops showing up."

Zetta folded her arms over her chest and sighed, looking back to where she thought Goch was sitting. "I ran back here because I figured hiding from people with guns was a good idea. I guess you guys took care of them? Oh, and this guy is apparently called, um... Something Goch."

 

[JoJo]

"Ah so you're Zetta then, and the guy over there must be Gabriel? Then I'm guessing you're... the Lily?" The voice took a sharp intake of breath "I must make myself visible now, else that'd be rude, this position should stop any peeping Tom's from spying me."

In front of Lily and Zetta but from an angle so anyone further away would have their vision obscuring by the alleyway, a large creature covered entirely in deep red scales promptly materialised. It was about eight meters long including it's arrow-like tail and had two pairs of strong reptilian limbs as well as wide leathery wings which were currently folded across it's back. Despite it's many teeth being pointed and sharp and it's tongue resembling a dart, the dragon appeared to be smiling.

"Is what Rin said true? You really killed Merlin, for real?"

Now she was visible again, Maya stared up at Dr. Strauss . She knew what she wanted say but she couldn't quite think of the words to say it.

"I... I don't want... " she mumbled quietly, looking down at her feet.

Rin saw the indecision in the girl's expression and waved the officer who was still hanging around away before entering the shade of the ambulance and crouching at the foot of the stretcher. She smiled sweetly at Maya.

"Did I hear Alec mentioning you have a mother? With my powers, I could find her for you so quickly, if you'll come with me now. I have a special friend named Mr. Kimura who's spent years finding and recording thousands of different people, it'll take no time for him to find one more. Come here and tell me her name dear."

Maya's eyes widened, Alec telling her that her mother was in hospital had given her new hope and the idea finally going back to her was too wonderful to resist. Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew that Rin was bad and would probably try to hurt her again but she pushed the thought away and slowly walked forwards, hesitantly taking Rin's hand.

"You'll find... Mummy?" A few tears formed around her eyes.

"Of course" Rin said with a gleeful smile, reaching down to stroke the child's hair "I promise you'll be with her as soon as possible. Now come along and take my hands too Strauss and Alec, there are tasks to be done!"

funny to see a gm manipulate one of their own characters to get the plot going.

Dr. Strauss turned towards Maya, "If you're sure then... wait..." he turned back to Rin and the others, "I need more gloves..." he held up his charred-looking arm, "won't be safe otherwise."

Once again, Strauss found himself wondering how the hell he was supposed to cure dozens of deadly diseases on his own. Regardless of how good Rin's equipment was, Dr. Strauss knew there was no way he could do this on his own.
