Thanks to PS4 sales holding steady and Sony making returns on their investment on what is undoubtedly the best console of this latest gen, PS4 prices seem to be dropping surprisingly fast. Just a few days ago, I thought the best price you could get on a brand new PS4 was $344. Now, my buddy informed me that this store is selling PS4's for $295 (not including shipping) thanks to their 15% off everything sale!

Note: Sale ends on May 31st, for those interested in taking advantage. To see the extra 15%, you have to click ADD TO CART and then Checkout. You can see the deduction, at the bottom of the page where the subtotal is shown.

Has anyone noticed how fast PS4 prices are dropping? Has anyone seen even better prices around the net? Are the price drops really about how fast they're selling?

It might be a reaction to Microsoft planning to drop Xbone prices once they loose the Kinect.

Heh, so MC will drop the mandatory kinect after all. I figured they would eventually. Making something mandatory while a lot of people don't want or need it, and didn't even come close to living up to it's potential in the last gen, does not sit well with customers.

I will personally stick with my PS3 for now though.

Still don't see a reason to buy one.

A 15% price drop is not rectifying the reason that I haven't bought a PS4 or Xboxone.

I have no interest, because I see no benefit. What are the games that I am getting these consoles for? I'll wait until those come out and inevitably the console will be cheaper by then too.

Also, PC MASTER RACE!!! NYAYNANYANYNAYNANYANYNAYANYANYAYA

..ahem.. sorry.

great price, but yeah, not one game out for the system I want to play yet, and not one game listed in the upcoming releases in the next 6 months for the ps4 that I want.

It's probably cheaper then I could get it when good games eventually do come out (Thats basically $100 off), but I just don't see a point in purchasing a system I'm not gonna use for probably a year.

No good RPGs and no decent platform games = no buy from me, no matter what the price.

Yeah, price doesn't drop when the demand is high. It should go up. That's economics 101. There's more to this. It probably has something to do with Kinectless Xbone.

Microsoft announced a Kinect-less Xbone for $400, Sony will will cut the PS4 price to maintain the advantage.

I expect an official cut to at least $350 before the end of summer, maybe even lower than that. I also expect a bunch of bundle versions coming soon, which may be why current SKU's are going cheaper.

Yeah the price of the PS4 was high because of how quickly it was selling, to the point where shops were selling PS4's for more than Xbox One's.

This would either be because Sony are finally distributing enough PS4's because of demand, or because people are worried about the Xbox One price cut. If its the second, Sony would be smart to officially cut the price soon.

This is more companies looking to get rid of stock then sony actually doing a price drop on the system. Sony wasn't suppose to be dropping the PS4 anytime soon since it was a big cut on margin releasing the ps4 for 400 in the first place, but I guess they can't exactly let MS catch up and 50% PSN plus attach rate says they'll make some of it back if they do.

that's the only place the price is dropping .. so I wouldn't say the price of the PS4 is dropping fast. the PS4 is still $400 at the other more reputability dealers I just looked up.. i'll wait till the price drops at a store i've actually heard of.

I'll never understand this talk of the Kinect, or most other motion controllers for that matter, having potential. It never had potential. It's most useful feature was being a glorified microphone. Motion controls are already bad enough with their general lack of fidelity and near total lack of physical feedback. And then Microsoft decided it'd be a good idea to release something with even less fidelity and zero physical feedback. It was always destined to sit firmly in gimmick territory, only suitable for use by those who wanted to play fruit ninja on a 360 and didn't know how a controller works.

Funny, they still haven't reversed the 50$ price increase here in Canada, which still leaves the PS4 the most expensive console on the market (once you factor in getting the online available). My feelings towards Sony have turned around as the gens have gone by.

The PS2 may have been my childhood, but the PS3 just didn't capture that magic and the PS4 has been an outright, blatant insult at my and my country, and though I'd consider buying an Xbone first, the WiiU is at the top of my list right now since it's the best deal with the best library, and the fact it doesn't have Microsoft's gaffs or Sony's price gouging only makes Nintendo look all the better.

I'll consider buying a PS4 when it reaches the 200$ mark, until then it isn't even a though worth entertaining.

(if it sounds like I'm mad at Sony, don't worry, I'm furious at them)

That's actually a 27% drop.

That's kinda insane.

It's not an insult. It's exchange rates between Japan and Canada.

Oh, I must've misread the OP's post.

My point is though, that money/pricing is not the reason I did not buy one of these consoles.

It was the launch list and current titles that are doing that. And the fact I have my PC.

Also, if there was an actual price drop, it'd be announced by Sony. We wouldn't be seeing it through "15% off everything" sales.

If there is a price drop, it will be to stay competitive with the Xbone sans Kinect.

Originally, the Kinect was set to be sensitive enough to pick up individual fingers discretely and to interpret sign languages. That kind of sensitivity had a lot of potential. The fact that it's being used in just about every field except gaming demonstrates it has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, what we got were more waggle controls on an underpowered box.

Nor will they. At least, not currently.

I thought the PS4 was close to neutral on launch. Sony were giving a lot of investor talks about how much more sustainable PS4 sales were than with their PS3 pricing model. That's why they got into profit territory almost immediately, compared to the PS3 which wasn't in profit per sale for years.

Greetings from Sweden, where the PS4 is still over $620! It has actually gotten more expensive since launch it seems, as it should when the demand is high, not the other way around. Well, not gonna buy one for a few more years anyways, so it doesn't bother me much. Will probably order one from the UK when I do. Our prices are always extremely high(new games go for $90...).
