If I remember correctly, you need an above average BARB score (56+?) with additional qualifications...He's either dumber than he looks or he just doesn't give a fuck.
At first I read that as "average BAB score" and thought to myself, "There's no way a prince would have such an incredible base attack bonus!"

OT: Pretty silly comment, but the optimist in me says he was only implying that video games improved his hand-eye-coordination.

Well, this is going to get completely BLOWN UP and put out of proportion.

Joking aside, I do feel he could have had a little more, erm... tact? in this matter. His comments will immediately be seized upon by people and taken out of context.

I do also find it quite funny that the taliban immediately condemned this calling him a coward. This coming from a group who's main fighting style is bomb vest + civillian centre or bury a load of mine's in a town.

Interesting video, thanks for that. I shall bring this up whenever my anti-monarchist friends start ranting on IRC.

But there's something else about this that bothers me... he calls his job, which consisted of killing people by dumping explosives on them, "a joy?" Prince Harry, man, fuck you. Seriously.
Pilots are different from you and me.

I once met a guy who was a Jaguar pilot, his summation of the first Gulf War was that it was the most fun he had ever had in his life. He lived in five star accommodation, had a swimming pool, flew twice a day and got to drop bombs on bad guys at regular intervals, which is what he'd been training his entire adult life to do.

They flippin' love their job.

Royal or not, he still served his time. Take any soldier, and tell them that they can be a soldier or just be a rich douchebag - well we'd have a major financial and security problem, wouldn't we.

I'm not a fan of the Royal family, but Prince Harry is pretty epic, don't hate the guy just because he's not ruined by the horrors of war. Frankly, anyone who's served in the forces has earned their opinion, even if they did *shock horror* dress as a Nazi one day and get naked in Vegas.

Why not just call it an IQ test, or is that too easy?
It's a very dumbed down version of an IQ test. Sort of "Tom is taller than Fred", screen goes blank for a few seconds, followed by "Who is shorter, Fred or Tom?". Then some very basic numeracy, reading bus timetables etc. and a bit of spot the odd one out.

He enjoys his job. Pretty much everyone serving in the army does. Extracting phrases like "take them out of the game" is just manipulating the interview. Soldiers use jargon and phrases that, taken out of context seem odd or inappropriate.

Regarding the Nazi and naked incidents, those outraged have clearly never been to a decent party in a mess. Just wearing the armband is fairly tame, I've seen Lieutenants in full SS gear.

Arggh! My eyes! Why did I look?!

Stumbling back on topic: It's Prince Harry, folks. He makes the press look his way to allow everyone else to get on with things. After he dressed up as a Nazi, I'm surprised anyone takes what he has to say seriously but since "videogames = violence" is taking center stage yet again, he has an excellent tool to tap the public eye. Surprise, he's doing it rather well.

So I take it he would be one of the few people who would defending gaming is not bad for you?

I more interested in that due to his royal status, shouldn't he be not in the frontline? Yes he is a good solider and I did read that royal family members have serve in the army in the past but none the less he will be a target for the Taliban even if he in a Apache?

Even the Daily Mail hasn't turned this into a "Harry used video games to kill" instead saying that they made him a better pilot.

You know when the Daily Mail doesn't blow that up into a huge thing, I don't think we need to worry about it.

I read two different articles about Harry in Afghanistan and both painted him to me as a pretty cool guy. He said that if he could he would be on the ground with the infantry rather than in the air and that he loves the military lifestyle. The only downside, he says, was that he isn't always treated normally (obviously). He recognized that he showed poor judgment in Vegas but also argues that it was a private party and no press should have been there. I don't think he likes being a royal all that much.

Reaction to this has actually been relatively reasonable.

Surprisingly so, really.

I watched the whole interview (It's about 30 minutes, it's an interesting watch.) He honestly just seems like the average guy who's just trying to serve the military, he seems completely disinterested in the crown and what-not.

Saying video games "Aided his ability" in war actually makes some sense (Also, I'd hasten to add, he is not talking about 'Violent Video Games' He's talking about Fifa.) the control system for a helicopter requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordinate, something which games do actually aid in.

He's referring entirely to the ability to control the helicopter he's flying. Which, involves looking at a screen, using a joystick to align a reticle to a target, and pulling a trigger.

Sound familiar?

1) They (the Taliban) have no way of knowing who's in the Apache
2) They already do their best to shoot down any Apache, regardless of who's in it.

When he's on active service the media is expected not to release details of where he is and what he's doing to avoid exactly this danger. In return they get some nice interviews and access once he comes home. His previous posting was cut short and he was brought home after one of the papers broke that rule, as it was felt that not only was he at undue risk, but the other soldiers he was stationed with would be as well.

Honestly, you make it sound like he's saying something like "Video games helped me destroy my morals!"

Really, you're reading it all wrong. Clearly the reason games helped is that, after years and years of training, it finally let him know which ones he should be shooting.

Seriously, though. A single read through and you work out what he means - "Video games increased my hand-eye coordination and such, and now I can fly a plane and shoot the bad guys easier due to it."

And on a side-note:

I think being a royal definitely exempts him from being forced to join the army, but lemme put it this way - it's his choice. And if a prince came up to you and said "I want to join the army," are you really going to put up that much effort to stop him doing what he wants to do? Even if you do have misgivings of him being blown up by the enemy?

Captcha: have fun.
Mission accepted and accomplished, sir!
