Pop superstar Prince is adamant he will never sell his songs on the internet, insisting web-based outlets will soon disappear because they are no longer "hip".

The Purple Rain hitmaker has long battled to keep his music offline - in 2007 he sued video sharing website YouTube.com as well as eBay.com claiming they "are clearly able (to) filter porn and paedophile material but appear to choose not to filter out the unauthorised music and film content which is core to their business success."

Prince has also moved to ban fansites using images and anything linked to his likeness, while a home video of a child dancing to one of his songs on YouTube was pulled down in 2007 after the star's Universal Music Publishing claimed the recording infringed copyright.

The artist is still refusing to allow websites to sell his music and he's adamant fans will soon move on from the internet.

He says, "The internet's completely over. I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it.

"The internet's like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

------------------------------------------

Soooo, I'm thinking that the guy probably is wrong. But who's to say that he isn't ahead of his time? What are your thoughts? I admit I see sites like itunes not as a permanent thing, more of a stop-gap thrown in by the industry to try and halt music piracy while they figure something more effective out, but the internet being "over"....hmmmm

I remember him! He changed his name to something pretentious, and is on Cracked.com's list of must un-sexy album covers. His opinion is worthless!

He's probably trying to be all edgy to spark a fad amongst his fans.

Luckily, I've never met anyone who is, or is willing to be called, a Prince fan.

Some kind of symbol if I remember correctly.

I honestly think that everything that can be said, has. Noboday cares what Prince has to say about anything anymore.

I thought he changed his name to some sort of symbol?

OT: He couldn't be more wrong if he tried.

EDIT: It would be the end of the world if the internet stopped working. Hasn't he seen that South Park episode?

You're joking, right? Oh, you were serious. Well, for the younger generation, Prince was basicly a less mainstream, less successful Micharl Jackson, but a whole hell of a lot more conceited and self absorbed.

It's amazing we heard anything. I didn't know he lowered himself to walking amongst us mere mortals who live in houses with less than 16 bedrooms and cars that didn't contain parts from all four corners of the globe.

Does Prince hold the switch that controls the internet? No he does not and i think that ever since he changed himself to the symbol then changed back to his actual name no one really takes him seriously anymore.

"insisting web-based outlets will soon disappear because they are no longer "hip"."

Right, because going to the option before that (sales through stores) is then getting into some crazy retro territory.

Poor bastard, I think he actually believes what he's saying.

Holy.... I couldn't even dream up a better word to describe Prince right now...

You win sir...
You win...
My credit goes to a fellow Escapee who came up with that word in the first place, don't remember his name though.

I've vaguely heard of him. Couldn't point out any of his songs though.

He seems to be a bit of a drama queen.
