So I was playing the first part of Heavy Rain(with the dad), and I noticed something about the huge event at the end. What 10 year old has never learned to look before crossing the street? And also if you look at the animation, the kid didn't get hit by the car, it looks like it got within inches, but didn't actually get him. Anyone else notice that?

1) I believe the kid was obviously excited and preoccupied. I would also hazard a guess that he wasn't the brightest child ever. He may have even had a mental illness. Who knows? His parents also may not have taught him to look before crossing the street, or he just forgot.

2) I think what happened was his father falling on him was what killed him. The father took the brunt of the impact from the car, but the force that did hit the child, added on to the father crushing him ended up with the child being dead.

I guess it might depend on when the story occurred.

10+ years ago, "look both ways before crossing the street" wasn't drilled into people's heads.

After tragedies and everything else, I doubt anyone living in the U.S. has not learned this particular 'phrase' from parents or schools.

Based on behavior of the child, he may have had a form of ADHD. If he did have other problems, I don't see the Dad being that careless towards him.

During the actual 'balloon' scene, I thought he was going to be kidnapped/attacked or something along those lines and not phantom hit by a car. The car didn't hit the son, the dad 'made' it, etc. etc. but the story they wanted to tell needed the following to happen:

1. Son dies tragically.
2. Dad's fault
3. Mom divorces Dad.
4. Dad has mental 'scars' from the accident.
5. Origami killer sees it all.

Given these parameters, there isn't much else they could have done to tell their story.

I do agree, that there is a big disconnect between what they showed and what happened. If they had just showed him 'jumping' and then cut before he reached the son then I would have totally accepted that he didn't make it but got hurt from jumping out to save his son.

Him jumping AND making it... and then son dying anyways just seemed wtf to me.

I personally hated that entire scene. The "press X to Jason," the kid completely leaving the mall for no damn reason at all, the super-slo-mo over-dramatic dive to save his son (who was nowhere near the car when he dove), the fact that the car hit him - not Jason - and then fast-forwards to "oh noes Jason died" without further explaination, it was all really sloppy and inane.

The rest of the game is much, much better, but that scene just makes me gag, and baffles me as to how someone thought that sequence was well done.
