Problem with Mass Effect 2 (I guess there are some spoilers in this)

Sometimes the game just hates you.
On my first playthrough i completed all loyalty missions, and bought all the upgrades... i had done everything, and Mordin died

That happened to me too, you have to send him back to the ship with the survivors for him to survive, and then only if hes loyal. Hes the first on the death hierarchy during the defense part so its very easy for him to die even with maxed loyalties.

When i replayed it i got him to survive by bringing him with me for the final battle, everyone else lived too, both times i sent Jacob back, Garrus leads the sub teams, tali in the vents and samara using her biotics, so i guess either bringing him with you or sending him back is the best way to keep him alive.

It's not random, though.

Thing is, early on everyone was relying on having Grunt in their squad ..
So, since he adds the biggest combat "score" to the group, people found that the game just decides someone has to die.

By sending Mordin as escort, they'd increase their score somewhat since he apparently contributes the least (as well as being the squishiest).

Seriously, you can have half your team unloyal, but if Grunt+Garrus+Zaeed are holding the line, you probably won't lose anyone.

You need his loyalty as well (as in both the biotic and fire team leader)

Garrus is loyal- IS I beat the game and ONLY Jack died! (I HATED HER TOO!) I win!

I like getting people killed on purpose, though .. my favourite save has everyone dead except Morinth and Thane.
That is going to be the most awesome ME3 import, ever.

I'm just a completionist. I had to finish everything before launching the suicide mission, so I never had the problem.

If you're trying to make a 'perfect' save for importing to ME3, you can always start a new game and blow through it pretty quickly on casual difficulty.

I did do everything, I just failed one loyalty mission, and messed jack's up by siding with Miranda.

But, everyone but Jack survived, so that is better than everyone surviving...

My neurotics wouldn't allow for any mistakes like that... I kinda envy you there.

It's funny, I never used Mordin as any special lead character on any playthroughs(wasn't in my party for two of them) and he never died. Always had grunt escort back to the ship.

He always seemed to be the one to die for my friends.

Did you side with Miranda when she and Jack had a fight? 'Cause that would make you lose Jack's loyalty. You need to take the special paragon/renegade options in those conversations to keep everyone loyal.

Well, I can just restart the mission, and put jack in the squad, and hope she dies...

I was in a similar situation. I had everyone loyal except miranda. And Guess who was demanding to be fire team leader. ....Legion died. I was so pissed. (and I thanked my lucky stars I hadn't sent Tali down the shaft...that would have really pissed me off.)

Ended up redoing the mission with another character as leader and everyone made it.

How can you hate jack? She's a tormented soul who's had nothing but crap luck her whole life! She deserves some friendship! And I took her side in that argument. Miranda was undoing ALL my hard work at making jack feel welcome, like she was a normal human being. (I would have pursued her, if Tali hadn't come back. Tali is awesome. Liked her since the first game).

Jack was always really mean to me, she called me a pussy, AND I'M COMMANDER SHEPARD. NO ONE INSULTS HIM WITHOUT DYING.

But, I didn't have enough pardagon to break up the fight, so I sided with Miranda, usually, I would have said F*ck it, but Miranda became a likable person to me after I completed her loyalty mission, and I had a feeling she was going to bang me (she did), so I sided with her... Thank god I had enough to break up the fight between Legion and Tali, I would have been pissed if one of them had to die.

But I tried to be nice to Jack, but she kept making me angry...
