Yeah it's not too bad. I'm just happy that I have a week break, like yourself, between the rest of the exams and chemistry. Any idea as to what titration might come up? I'm thinking either the Winkler titration or one of the titrations involving iodine and starch solution.
Haven't a clue, my chemistry teacher hated our class and especially hated me.

I'm the freakin' Queen of procrastination. The fact of the matter is, yes, I'm completely competent, but when it comes time to actually sit down and do it, I can't bring myself to for some reason. So I end up here or on the consoles.

why because why do it now when it can be done latter I also find people think they are good underpressure when they really are not at all but tell themselves they are so that they dont feel bad

Mind numbing amounts of apathy.

This isn't just laziness, this is laziness turned up to 11.

Also I'm naturally smart, meaning I have even less inclination to get started early.

I have a Maths exam in 2 days, a Psychology exam in 3 days and another Maths exam in a week, I haven't revised for so much as an hour.

Sometimes I wish I could change, then I just go to bed for a few hours instead...
This. I'm lazy because I know that I can usually get away with it due to my natural ability at doing well in exams (where this is due to "intelligence" or simply my innate ability to take in a lot of information in a short space of time, I'm unsure).

Whenever I consider changing my attitude, I sleep on it for a few hours - wake up, and **** around on The Escapist for another four hours.

Case in point, last two weeks have been filled with AS (Advanced Subsidary) Examinations, probably should have been revising since Easter, ended up doing about eights hours of revision the day before each exam. Did the same thing for GCSE, was pretty damn pleased with my results.

ALso, I have another AS tommorow... have barely opened the book yet (although it is Critical Thinking, which let's face it, isn't a real subject).

So, why do you think people procrastinate? Is it lack of organization, or are people just lazy?
If you put off your work, why? I can't figure it out.
Just a couple of reasons from the top of my head:

1. Lack of reward
I remember in my first year of high school, I wanted to have good grades. I used to study a lot, write all my papers on time etc. After the 1st year, my mom told me that due to financial reasons, I won't be able to attend the college I wanted to go to and that I'll have to settle for a public one in my town (which only had sociology, economy and something else, I don't remember because I didn't care). This college didn't have any tests or standards, they literally were taking anyone. Just like that, I stopped studying. I did just enough to pass because I knew that I'll end up in a shitty college, after which I won't be able to get any job. After college, I found out that (spoiler warning) I was right. What a shock!!!

2. Lack of motivation
Parents always tell you (well, not always but screw the details right now, OK?) to work hard, get a job, a partner, start a family, retire... blah blah blah. But when you look at them, working their asses off 40-50 hours a day, getting close to minimum wage and realizing that their retirement plan won't even last to support them, you lose motivation.
Also, when you constantly hear how people describe school as "the best time of your life", that things get worse after that, then you look at your life while you're still in school and it sucks, you can no longer see the point of working hard.

3. Demotivation
Let's say you have certain ambitions in life, certain goals that are a little out of the ordinary. Nothing too weird. For example, you want to be a writer. However, all you hear from everyone around you is that you can't really make it and won't make it as a writer, that you should instead concentrate on finding a "normal" job and living a "normal" life. It's really hard to motivate yourself when all you hear from others is that you should quit. After a while, you either slowly stop socializing with these people or you conform to their views. Either way you might end up depressed and not really willing to work hard.

4. Lack of social skills
Let's say that you re a bit anti-social. In school, you're being bullied and hated by most peers, the teachers also don't like you because you're not "nice" to them (even though they sometimes witness others physically and verbally abusing you and don't seem to care enough to do something about it). At home, your parents work all day so you're really stuck with yourself. you don't know how to make friends because you're used to the fact that other people are hostile towards you and avoid social interaction. Why would you want to do anything that requires effort in that situation?

5. Bad parenting
If your parents constantly slack off, you tend to copy their lifestyle.

Of course, it can just be laziness but in many cases, it's not just that. There are many factors that play a part in this. You can't just blame it on laziness or lack of organizational skills.

I procrastinate for several reasons:

1. I'm lazy. Smart, but lazy. I know I can get it done just fine at the last minute.

2. I work well under pressure. I have come up with some of my best theses and ideas when it was crunch time, not to mention I'm one of those people whose first draft doesn't need revision because I'm so picky as I write it.

3. It takes less time. When it's crunch time, I work faster, and therefore spend less overall time working, which leads back to my laziness.

4. Fear. This is a big one for me. If I'm intimidated by an assignment, I try to put it out of my head and worry about it later. It's stupid to do this, I know, but it happens nonetheless.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but these are the ones that come to mind.
This sounds like me. Are you me?
Hmmm... I guess I COULD be. That would be interesting.
If you are....what am I thinking?
Dirty, dirty things I'd probably get banned for writing on these forums.
Good guess, but that would be a good guess in anyones mind :p But no....I guess you're not me...ah well. Probably just as well, if you were me I wouldnt be sure who I was anymore.

I can't seem to get enough motivation to do something big, like an essay, unless:
a) It's really difficult and I know that it will take a long time to do
or
b) It's due on any day besides the next one
For example:
I have a huge Data Management project due tomorrow, and when I get home from school, I will most likely start it and finish after 5, maybe 6 hours, even though I could have done it over the weekends.

I try to make sure I get my stuff done way before the last minute. Otherwise, my work will be nagging at me from the back of my head until I actually get around to doing it.

It's finals time at my school, and my classes have two essays due today: one for humanities and one for biochem. I finished both of my essays around Wednesday and revised them yesterday, so I'm all set. I had so much free time today I beat Lugaru and played a lot of other games, and also studied for my other finals. I hoped that at my new school, people would take studying seriously, yet here I am. Sitting in a room posting this thread, while literally four people around me have not done their work. I know a few more people that have not even started, and the essays are due in 13 minutes.

So, why do you think people procrastinate? Is it lack of organization, or are people just lazy?

I actually know this!

The front bit of your brain can see the positive effects of doing your work but it's far from the middle bit of your brain, the middle bit of the brain is like a druggie, it wants pure happyness right now and 'cos it's at the middle it is more powerful, so it over rides your thinking into the future part.

This guy says it better ... even if it is very goofy!

Or we could have split personalities that don't share thoughts or memories...

My, my. We really could. If I wasnt so extremely sane this would be a pretty scary thought.

Who are you and what have you done with my brain???

You have left me nigh on nothing else to say.

I also find that everything is so much more interesting when it is not what I am supposed to be doing. The world becomes amazing when I have to work, and dull again after I'm finished.

My name is procrastination, so I have a general idea why.

...

Actually, I don't, I have an idea of why I do it, but not everyone else. Probably because they are only thinking in the now, not later, and don't give a shit about doing work. Instead, they have fun, and wait until the last minute to do work.
