I'm not sure how to approach this information. Spin-off would be for example "Colonial Marines" tv show about soldiers fighting on some distant world (sans Aliens), or "Corporate wars" depicting agents of "Grant" stealing secrets from "Weyland-Yutani"...Sixcess said:[and then they said that it's not an Alien film, it's a spin-off, or a sort of prequel, or something.
...backward writing. One of things i really despise in work of fiction. Estabilished facts are now changed, black is white, white is black. Bluerghhh. I'm really worried that it can disrupt, ahem, canon. I'm sure i saw some info that Scott plans to glue together Jockey race and origin of our species. Nothing good can come out of it, i tell you...Sixcess said:Yeah, watching it again and reading the comments here, I'm starting to get the dreadful feeling that's what it will be - a remake, or 're-imagining' as they'd probably call it.usmarine4160 said:*Edit: That looks suspiciously like a remake of the first one in which case I will be thoroughly pissed
It obviously is in the Alien universe, it's just not the Ripley storyline. You got Space Jockeys and a guy wearing a Weyland Yutani t-shirt, plus a lot of the tech has the same style. So yes, it is in the same universe, but might focus on the space jockeys instead of the aliens this time. So in a way it's not an Alien movie, but at the same time it is.Hero in a half shell said:Wow, it's like a copy and paste of Alien, although I must say I preferred the aesthetics of the original Alien trailer.
(Here it is for anyone who is interested)
I prefer the way the original loses the lettering for most of the action shots, I think it gets in the way of the Prometheus trailer's scenes
I can't really describe how I feel about the idea of Scott making a film so blinking similar to Alien if it's not meant to be in the same universe. That would be like Lucas creating a new "Planet Wars" franchise. What's the point of making a new movie that is basically one you made before with a few changes, and to do it so blatantly with the trailer, same font and title style, same music, multiple similarities and nods in the scenes chosen (32 seconds in, guy grabbing helmet and screaming, looks like a facehugger on him.)
The only way they could have ripped it off more was to use the "in space no one can hear you scream" tagline.
(Of course, all I said goes out the window if this new movie is actually meant to be in the same universe as Alien, It's just that no one seems to know if it is or not yet.)
Yup, I think you are right and one of those aliens will make an appearance in this movie. It's canon right?jakeblues69 said:If you've read any of the "Alien" series of books, the large skeleton alien found in the wreck is from another species with an elephant-like head. There is a part in the book series where Earth is being overrun by aliens and some people on a escaping ship have some contact with them.
Don't worry, I have assembled a list!mikey7339 said:I'm fucking amped....He had better get the Alien series back on the right track.
So, how many must see movies does this make for 2012 now?
Any depictions of the "space jockeys" with elephant like trunks is considered not to be canon. The space jockeys are part of the Alien lore but they have not been given a center stage. The Alien move was really just a horror thriller but there was just enough story in the 1st movie to captivate some fans, myself included. I've always wanted to know more about the derelict ship and origins of the space jockeys and aliens.jakeblues69 said:If you've read any of the "Alien" series of books, the large skeleton alien found in the wreck is from another species with an elephant-like head. Hah! Good to see that someone else here is still as excited for TDKR as I am! =)brainslurper said:Don't worry, I have assembled a list!mikey7339 said:I'm fucking amped....He had better get the Alien series back on the right track.
