You definitely should not be collecting any statistics you plan to use for a project this way, anyone who has taken basic high school statistics will tell you so.

This sample is heavily biased because it is voluntary and because there might be certain characteristics of people who visit this site that means our user based is more heavily weighted toward a certain result.

1. UK
2. 19/F
3. I thought my lessons in school were a bit lacking, but they taught us all what a condom is and showed us pictures of what would happen if we didn't use one. They were pretty effin' gross...
4. Not really. Where ever kids that are 14 learn that stuff from, I had learnt it.
5. No... Unless learning that condoms are waterproof meant I knew they would make good water balloons?

1.What country are you from - United Kingdom

2. Age and sex - Female, 36

3.Do you think you were given the proper amount of information for sex education. - Not even remotely. Learn that egg plus sperm equals baby was fair enough biology. But it was more about science than any kind of inter personal relationship of relevance. Got that info pre-teen and saw a birthing video. Got the same at about 12 (with a side step into menstruation for girls in the class only) and then again at about 16 as a foundation to what we called Personal and Social Education. The parent version was also sperm plus egg equals baby and showed up at about the age of 16. The parental unit never mentioned safe sex, presumably thinking that the school would do it, which it did. Condom, spermicide, cap etc covered. Warnings about STI.

4.Do you think the education you received was useful. - Oh good grief no. Laughable in fact. When I was at school in the UK it was actually illegal to even mention anything other than heterosexuality. Illegal. So that was a pretty major party of my life utterly outlawed. Never once did any lesson (Including the parental unit) mention the word "clitoris" which I also consider pretty important. Most young females figure this bit out for themselves, even if they don't have a word for it. Not sure that young males do the same. Instruction was pretty much - Body part A gets stiff, inserts into body part B. If everyone listened to ONLY what they were taught by school then a lot of people would be having shitty sex lives. I know that I drew that bloody diagram that looks kinda like a goats head a time or two, fallopian tubes and everything. But none of the other stuff was labelled.

I got my best sex education from discovering a "gentleman's magazine" (that my Mum probably bought my older brother), reading the stories and looking at the pictures.

5.Have you ever used the information in real life. Not even remotely. Being lesbian (illegal to mention) and possessing of fun bits that were never labelled and practicing a kind of safe sex that because of its illegality to mention I had to go and find out for myself, the education I received at school and from the parental unit (my Mum) was 100% useless. I knew where babies came from but never gave a shit.

1. Finland (though lived in England for 8 years beforehand)

2. 18, male

3. Yes, though in an English school. Pretty much in Finland we were just one day, out of the blue, handed polystyrene cocks and told to put a condom on it.

4. In the English school, yes. In detail, useful and such. The Finnish one not so much.

5. Never had a girlfriend, thus never needed to use the information.

1.What country are you from
U.S.A.
2. Age and sex
13, female
3.Do you think you were given the proper amount of information for sex education.
Yes. Mostly from my mother, but partly from school. Also, my family owns the book "Where Women Have No Doctor." It's actually a village health care guide for women, but I found it helpful, even living in the suburbs.
4.Do you think the education you received was useful?
I guess so. I like to think I'll use it later on. Although, a lot of tips from the school seemed like no-brainers to me. Don't have sex with someone you don't know? Okay, got it covered. Safe sex? Yep, will do. Of course, I had already heard of AIDS and other STDs at this point, but who hadn't?
5.Have you ever used the information in real life?
Not quite sure what you mean by that. (For one thing, sex ed class is real life, and tests that my grade depend on certainly are real life, so there's that.) I've never had sex, if that's what you mean.

Yeah, what he said.

And it's generally a good idea to confuse the people you're surveying for various reasons. Don't give away the reason behind it first, it ceates bias and results change.

Unless, of course, all you want is information that PROVES what you're trying to prove. Then there's plenty of tricks to fuck with statistics. Loaded questions, specifically worded questions that are supposed to sway people in whatever direction you want, manipulation basically, total mindfuck.

But if you want something closer to truth (which you can't haaaandle) then try a better sample.

Exactly, you can't use such a biased sample space, who knows what factors people who like the Escapist enough to post here have in common that could skew your results, the simple fact that it's voluntary means you are only getting people who are willing to respond to respond, and they may share common traits that also skew results.

And before you say "you can't have a sample that's NOT voluntary!" let me just preempt your argument with "yes, yes you can" you can have someone agree to take a survey without giving them the questions first.

1. Scotland, you want to put Great Britain be my guest.

2. Male going on 21

3. No

4. To a basic extent I suppose I was sort of coming out of school during the whole sex-ed reform thing in primary we were given a rustic video from the late 80's or something in highschool a very brief and disturbing lecture from an elderly arts teacher. Basicly watching the teacher call up a random student to put a condom on a dildo did not go down well. Barring that basic shit, use condoms, masturbation is healthy, don't have sex with strangers, go for regular std checks.

5. Not really I went in for the snip as soon as i hit 18 so condoms aint a huge worry, dont sleep with strange women and sex ed never really taught us about sex just precautions around sex learnt more from the internet than school >_>

Thank you for you input. I am sorry if there was confusion in the tread. I was insane when I posted this thread. I still had to do the survey though, but I would not have ask these they would have been better questions.

1.What country are you from:
Argentina

2. Age and sex:
29 and Male

3.Do you think you were given the proper amount of information for sex education.
Yup, I have had an extensive sex education in school (basically since Primary school), and my own parents were pretty open about that. My father gave me my first condom when I was 15

4.Do you think the education you received was useful.
Very useful, I didn't had any problem even when I had my first relationship, to use a condom or anything.

5. Have you ever used the information in real life.
Yup, I had my first time when I was 18, I had no problems to use a condom, I knew how to do it. I currently have a relationship, and me and my girlfriend are very open to discuss with each other about our sex life, which basically improves our relationship overall.
