Sparrow looked at the two new faces. Males, looked in good shape. Didn't seem too young, nor too old. They were basically himself all those years ago, when they emerged from their own pods in Russia. Carefully scanning the person who was talking, Sparrow glanced at the other man. He seemed to be keeping to himself. Sparrow wrote a quick line on the front of his notepad, making sure he held the girl's hand at all times. He bent down to match the man's height, and flipped the notepad around to his direction.
"Good. I'm glad to have you on the team Reese. I'll introduce you to everyone else once we leave."
Sarah looked at Sparrow, who seemed to be preoccupied with the other Prototype. She looked down at his hand and realized that he was still holding the girls hand.
Its not necessary to hold her hand the entire time.........
Why is it that all these awesome and intriguing plotpoints play out when I'm somewhere were internet is non-existent? Ah well, can't be helped I suppose..
Rosa listened silently at the man's hand. She still hadn't asked their names, but she knew she was in the right place. She tugged at his arm, trying to break free from his secure grip. He was being protective, which was nice, but he was really starting to hurt her. With one mighty yank she pulled herself away from him, though throwing herself off balance and falling to the floor via her rear end. Grunting with displeasure, she pushed herself back up, then rubbed her head. By the sounds of things, there was another one. Somebody new, an addition, just like Rosa herself. Reese, that's what she heard them say. Without using her powers, she turned to the position that she thought Reese was. She waved, unknowingly waving at a wall. There were a few giggles, Rosa blushed, she knew she'd done something stupid.
"Ehm...erm...I'm uh-"
A hand met Rosa's. It felt different from the hand she held before. It was a more relaxed grip. It was Reese. He shook her hand, and she shook back. This gesture confirmed that there was nothing between them, Rosa knew that this was where she belonged. The girl known as Sarah had called them her friends, she was using it as a collective term, so that included Rosa too. Rosa looked at her hand, seeing the energies floating around it. They seemed playful, they had adopted their own moods, they were evolving, like a baby turning into a toddler, it somehow gains a shred of personality. The energy started floating around Sarah, curiously, Rosa had a look through her head. She left again when she saw jealousy. Rosa started to skip in circles, she wasn't bored, but she couldn't help but entertain herself. It was all a bit formal. Rosa suddenly clutched her head, the memories coming back. Her hands turned orange. The burn...again.
The devil's flames wrapped themselves around the flower shop, the wooden supports crumbling before the heat. Frantically searching for plants to save, but with every stride the fires consume another of nature's children. A pot falls onto the concrete floor, smashing. The mother hauled a bag of compost and sliced it open like a stomach, the soil dousing the devouring flames. The path was clear, the jump was made, the mother's hand was sweaty and trembling. The door burst open, plumes of smoke pouring from the opening. The crowd cheered, the residents had returned safe, but one was missing. The family car was long gone, the rubber marks still heavy on the road. A drum of gasoline was spilt. The sins of the father.
Rosa suddenly returned to reality, the burn was gone, her headache nothing but a remnant of the previous events. The others looked at her, she could feel their concern. She turned her look of sorrow into one of happiness. The frown was now upside down. She showed some teeth, her white smile lifting the atmosphere. Footsteps approached her, but she waved them away. Looking down at herself, she chuckled a little, appreciating their worries. She still had the bag of clothes in her hand, she wanted to put something different on, but there was nowhere to change. She had a select few outfits that were excellent for this kind of situation. The other's looks were still fixed upon her, Rosa looked towards Reese and Sarah, then to the others that she did not know the name of. She smiled as she spoke, her words coming out a bit odd.
"What was it that happened ?" asked Reese as he looked around the room, still shivering. His face broke into a grin as he spotted a socket on one of the walls, "if you'll excuse me, I'm away to power up," smiling slyly at the others, "so I'm of some use to the group I mean."
Feeling the electricity within the plug, Reese crouched down and pushed his hand onto it. The power surged into his hand and through his body, Reese sighed in relief as the energy allowed his body to return to it's "natural" level. "Ahh, that's much better," he smiled playfully standing back up, "and now I'd advise no-one to attempt to touch me," looking at the confused group, "just in case, my skin should be a bit shocking to the touch now." He smiled looking around at the new friends he had.
"What we going to do about," Reese points to the man on the floor, "him anyway? Leave him or take him with us?" he asks as he bites his lip attempting to recall if he'd seen him on the 'programme' before or not.
Rufus stood in his pod, eyes staring straight forward. His eyes barely moving.
Who are these people?
He slowly blinked, and nervously adjusted his spectacles, the first movement he'd made in a while.
"You don't.... you're not..... are you with the scientists? Am I going to get out? I-I-I....."
He stammered and his sentence faded away. He merely stared, glassy-eyed, at the gaggle of strangers. Suddenly, he burst into tears.
"Three years, of my life. That's what they took. And if you're here to take more, then you can bloody well get it over with. Please"
He expected angry stares and grasping hands in response, instead he saw kind smiles and looks of concern. These people weren't with the scientists at any rate. Composing himself, he spoke again.
"I'm sorry..... please excuse my outburst. It's just, I thought... Never mind. Who are you?"
"About 8 hours I think," Reese answered unsure, "truth be told, I've never went to long with out 'recharging'."
He turned as the other man began to speak, "we're friends," he smiled, "your safe, I think," Reese mumbled as he looked back to the man that asked him about his power, "well I guess we are cause these people waited for both of us to come round before doing anything. The scientist's wouldn't have, we'd probably be back in cages by now," he sighed about to place his hands on the man's shoulders before remembering about the shock he'd get.
He stood back from him and looked to the others, "well what now?" he asked still confused about what was happening exactly.
Rosa knew what the man was thinking. It came naturally to her. She nodded her head furiously in agreement, nobody really taking any notice of her. She started fooling around inside her bag, looking for something. After clawing her way through layers of clothes, Rosa found what she was after. Her iPod. She examined her library, and found nothing of interest. She threw it back into the bag. It was the first time the questions had come to her. She needed answers, and her memories came slowly. She was getting nowhere fast. Rosa turned her head to the one who had held her hand before. She knew he was looking at her, and judging by the way his energy was coming across, he was fearful of Rosa's expression.
"I uh...I know this really isn't the place, but what is going on? I remember alarms and broken glass, I remember stories in the news about odd occurances, I can't help but think this is linked to us somehow? What happened? What has caused all this? I don't know anything apart from...about an hour ago, I practically destroyed an entire complex. Are there others like this? That you haven't found yet?"
Rosa knew that her questions weren't appropriate for the situation, but any knowledge regarding their situation would help her. She tried looking through his head, but it was tightly locked up, if Rosa tried to break through, it'd cause damage, and she didn't want that. She had to rely on the others to tell her. Experience had befallen the others. Rosa knew that something complicated had happened. The others that were like her...they had witnessed things, they were more knowledgable. Rosa on the other hand, had no experience other than running. These people had fought. Rosa looked down and tapped her feet gently, awaiting a response.
Rosa looked at the man with a glare. He was challenging her, she didn't like it. Her hands grew yellow, the energies around her starting to swirl fiercly, as if threatened. She dug deep, mustered everything she had to beat him. He asked her the question through his head. She replied, shouting at him with her mind. He seemed to squint and recoil in horror, Rosa chuckled to herself. With smarm, she gave him the answer he was asking for.
That's 95 Mr Everett. Don't challenge me, two people live in this body, and one is much more vicious than the other. You'll do well to remember that. Rosa is gentle, I, Alice, am much more...independant to put it politely.
Rosa's other was awakened, but was rather calm. She was simply telling Sparrow that he wasn't going to be controlling over her. Alice was guilt, Rosa was innocence. The two poles. With Alice in control, things got dangerous. Alice walked slowly towards Sparrow, shaking every curve she had to catch his attention. When she was close to him, she bent slightly, and seductively whispered in his ear.
"Now baby, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what happened, y'know, play catch-up?"
He looked at the one they appeared to call Reece, and his kind words comforted him a measure.
"Thank you friend.... I'm just so tired. My name is Rufus, or it was at any rate. They took me here, these researchers, and inflicted some sort of diabolical scheme upon me. It has bestowed me with some decidedly curious, if potent, abilites. I found myself able to pinpoint the exact location of any given object, to inspire unbridled emotion of any form in humans, and to blend into shadows. Something tells me, strangers, that you have been the victim of such experiments as well." Rufus paused, realising he was beginning to go off on a tangent. "Just tell me, what exactly is going on here? Are you all experiments as well? Are you on some noble crusade? What exactly is your purpose? Apologies, I do not wish to undermine the gift of freedom which you have given me, and for that I am thankful. But pray, tell me what your purpose is, or am I to abandon all hope this very moment?"
Nuh-Uh Mr Everett. You're a year younger, or at least that is what you're trying to tell me. I like mine younger, it means they're more vunerable. Oh, you're a mute too? You're shaping up to be perfect. Finally, I'll be able to go shopping without my man nagging about how much I can spend. Glorious. We should make something of this connection we have shouldn't we babba? I'm sure the other girl won't mind. She's got nothing on me anywa-
Rosa suddenly dropped to her knees, clutching her head like she was trying to prevent an explosion. It wasn't a memory, and it wasn't her powers. It was Rosa, clawing back at Alice. A deep, hidden conflict inside the mind. Rosa jerked and screamed, then dropped from her knees to the floor. She writhed and squirmed like a snake, infected with a violent disease. Rosa was winning. It was all about will, whoever had it most, won. In order to stop chaos, Rosa had to prevent Alice from shouting her mouth off. Moments later, Rosa stood up, looking at Sparrow. He was utterly stricken by what had happened. She ran over to him, clutching his hand and crying.
"Please, don't listen to her! I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry..."
Sparrow nodded gently then brushed her hand away. Rosa could feel everyone's gaze fixate upon her. As a method of escapism, she sealed herself inside a sphere. She rolled around in it like a hamster, back to her playful, tranquil self. She kept stopping when it was appropriate, but the incident was still on her mind. She kept shooting glnances at Sparrow, apologetic faces mirrored by despair. He politely smiled and turned away. He had accepted her apology, but it was still on his mind, and because of that, it was still on Rosa's.
Doc landed softly on the roof overlooking the ruined building. He gently placed Razi on her feet. Looking around he spotted the cruiser that the Prototypes liked riding around in. It looked vaguely beat up. He turned to Razi.
"Stay here and be quiet. I'm going in for a closer look." Doc said. "If the Prototypes are in there I don't want the rubble burning down"
Silently he dropped off the roof and melded into the shadows around the ruins, waving through the destruction until he came upon a small chamber containing the Prototypes. Clinging to the shadows he noticed two open pods like those they were kept in at the Russian Facility. Also it seemed there were three new people. Two men and a girl. Then it clicked in his mind. Razi wasn't the only Prototype that was being held there... There were others.
