"I know the way out," said Ace. "In fact I just about left not too long ago. Lucky for you I didn't. Follow me, when you're done," he finished and headed towards the door.

Samuel sat behind the computer Isaac had been typing on before they had stromed the room. A first line of an unfinished e-mail was blinking on screen. My fellow collegues... Samuel grinned and pressed delete. I am coming for you. Signed #4. He pressed send.

he closed the email program and scorlled through the files on the pc. Most of them were rubbish, but a few were useful. Names like "Belongings" and "Relatives" in particulair.

No one seemed to react to Aesis. They were too distracted on what just happened. Most of their faces were stricken with nervousness, some were worried, but only one was smiling. Samuel, at the computer near the end of the room. "What was he doing?" Ace says, inaudibly. Ace makes his way toward Samuel.

Sparrow patted Sarah on the shoulder, and leaned over to whisper in her ear.

"Thats what I'm here for, so don't worry."

He picked up her arm off of his shoulder, so he could walk by himself. Samuel still searched frantically for the scientist's body, as Emily and Aesis began to speak with each other. Sarah watched Sparrow, as he limped over to what seemed to be the only working piece of equipment in the room; A sealed pod, much like the ones each of them had been in the past fifty years.

He slowly moved to the adjacent computer. His eyes widened as he read the information on the containment pod.

James Dresden. Test subject #8.

He pulled up a full scan of the pod's occupant.

James Dresden. Deceased as of 19/5/1954. Cause of death: Suicide.

Another test subject. Another one like them.

Subject #8. Warning; Subject unstable

Samuel scrolled through the files of all of the subjects. An entire sub-section was devoted to the lesser subjects. The ones with 5% and 20% updates. He was intrigued by them, but wnet to the list of major subjects. There had been a subject #8. But it hadn't been a succes. He was about to read the rest of the file when the monitor shut down. At the same time the lights in the hallway went off and the glowing pod stopped glowing.

"They must've cut the power. Let's make ready to leave. Emily, you lead. You can nearly see in the dark, according to your profile."

Ace was offended, but then he realized that the militia could be anywhere, and if he kept his friends in front of him, he could protect them from all sides. "I'll follow up, then. You guys go ahead." He activated his eyes, glowing now, not grey, but silvery white. Everything seemed slower now.
Aesis smiles. "What are we waiting for?"

Sparrow flinched as the power went out. The incident with Sarah before had shaken him, but he wasn't going to tell anyone that.

The monitor of the screen slowly flickered off, as the computer shut down. The only thing in the room with any power, was the pod where #8 was being held, but even then the lights slowly dimmed. Aesis shouted for Sparrow to get moving, as he slowly limped toward Sarah. He'd need some help if he wanted to move faster than a braindead cow.

Aesis rushes toward Sparrow and supports the other side of his body. "Sarah, do you think you can move any faster?"

"Yeah. If I could fly, she could move much faster."

Sparrow thought it over in his mind. Can I fly? No, thats just stupid. Worth a shot though.

Sparrow jumped a mere half a foot, and stumbled backward as he landed. Sarah and Aesis gave him confused looks.

"Turns out I can't fly."

"Good, now can you get a move on?" Ace shot back. The sbjects then made their ways out of the room, following Emily.

[Got to go, control my character, and when I get on next, tell me what happened... sorry]

Sparrow was guided outside by Aesis and Sarah, as everyone else walked infront of them, toward the exit. Lights switched off, as doors closed and hatches locked left right and center. They slowly advanced down the corridor, as the bright light outside greeted them. Hi-tech facilities, futuristic gizmo's and weapon factories spread for what seemed like miles.

"Alot can change in fifty years, I suppose."

Chapter 3: Back To The Future

Present day.

Sparrow jolted upright in his seat. He placed a hand on his head, as Sarah smiled at him.

"What a vivid dream.", he murmured, "Why would I think of that..."

Sarah gave him a reassuring hug, as Sparrow felt the scar on his back. It's good to be back in the present, no matter how much the current situation blows, he thought.

The Prototype test facility, somewhere in Russia.

#8's pod had been slowly breaking for years, ever since the other seven test subjects escaped and caused the back-up generator to shut-off. The cracks that had been slowly forming around the pod came to meet at the center of the glass tube, and gave way.

(are we back in present time?)

Emily read the highway sign about 400 yards ahead.

"Chicago, exit right, we are almost there!"

[Present day]

Samuel went through the files again. Chicargo, he had planned on going there when he was in the US. Doctor Pavel Uri lived there. He was the one that had taken care of the lives of the subjects after they were detained. He lived at State Street. Adress was included. Perhaps he could figure out what happened to the money they had taken away from the subjects. Probably into the funding of the project. But still, he had made every scientist involved in the project his personal targets.

Emily was looking very tired. She had been riding all night long. At least they were nearing Chicago. The most positive thing about his Hitman-contacts was that they had provided him with a room or appartment in every big urban locale. So the rest could stay there while he would be busy.

"People, I've got a few things to do in Chicago. Sarah, I understand that you've lived here for a long time?" He asked Sarah. She nodded.

"Good, that means that you've got a place to stay. If not, I have one. Near North Side. This is the adress." He gave her the adress on a piece of paper.

"I'll be occupied for the rest of the day. If you need to reach me, I've got a cell. Do you?" Sarah said she didn't. Samuel sighed.

"Well, here. Have my spare. It has only one number in it, mine. Use it only when in need, not for idle chatter."

The rest of the group stared at him. Samuel shrugged.

"It pays to be prepared."

Doc was vaguely aware of noises around him as he began to awaken. They sounded like voices... Many voices. All speaking in excited tones. Blinking as he became more aware, he saw a crowd of people stood in front of him. Male and female and of various ages. Looking around he noted he was in some sort of pod... And there was shattered glass on the floor in front of the pod along with a pool of liquid. The people were all watching eagerly.

"He's awake! I can't believe he's finally awake!"

As he ripped the breathing apparatus out from his throat everything came flooding back to him. The scientists... The testing... The pain. Stepping out from the pod he adjusted his glasses. These people didn't seem to be scientists. They carried crude weapons. Pipes and various tools. Doc examined them carefully... They wore the overalls of the experiments the scientists used to lock him in a room with to test his powers. He stood directly in front of one of them, who kneeled immediately. This puzzled Doc.

"Why are you kneeling?"

Another voice answered.

"It is customary to kneel before a Prototype"

Turning, Doc saw a short woman dressed in the same overalls... But they had been altered to resemble robes.

"Who are you people?"

"We are yours"

A smile crept across Doc's face.

"Tell me more..."

[Oh, yeah. Doc's joining as #8 of the Prototypes. You'll see what he's capable of in a while."

Sarah put the cellphone in her pocket and smiled at Samuel. She was finally where she wanted to be, Chicago. When they entered the city the bright lights drew Sarah in. She was enamored by how much the city had changed since the last time she had been there. She looked around, the street names remained the same.

Hopefully your still here. Hopefully I can tell you everything that has happened.

She had one person in mind that they could visit. A childhood friend.

But all this time. The age difference would be tremendous.

"Turn on Walker Avenue when you have a chance. I want to visit someone."

Patrick had been silent for a while now, ever since they'd gotten in the car. He had remembered the escape when he fell asleep for a short bit: the death, the chaos, and his inability to focus... He had only really been able to get his powers to work after that, in the aftermath of the escape, and even then there was the Voice to consider. Every time he used his powers, it carried an incredible risk, one that he wasn't particularly thrilled to expose his comrades to. They didn't know about the Voice yet, and he wanted to keep it that way: it could only bring them pain.

He rubbed his eyes, shrugging off his exhaustion. Sarah was looking rather excited, but it was a strange sort of excited... it creeped Patrick out. The paranoia flaring up, Patrick reached into her mind, looking for an explanation.

Hopefully you're still here. Hopefully I can tell you everything that has happened.

He then saw a flash: a picture of someone. Patrick couldn't tell any of the details, but he KNEW that this was someone important to Sarah: an old and precious friend. Embarrased and ashamed that he'd intruded on her privacy, Patrick pulled out. He needed to overcome his fear, and being suspicious of the only people that he COULD trust, the only ones who might be able to understand him, was hardly going to get him to get over the terror that he could still feel gripping the edges of his mind.

AH YEAH! I'm pissed that I missed out on the chance to kick some butt, but that's what I get for basically going into coma-sleep for a day. I'll be more active than that from now on, trust me. Also, WOOT! Doc gets to join in, as our nemesis! Kickass.

Aesis awakens, having problems with his head again. After he escaped the prison, he started to work as a PI, a Private Investigator, and got himself into trouble many times, and hit on the head, damaging some of his memories. After that, he lost contact with the Other subjects. He has been slowly healing since then, remembering only glimpses of the testing, and of his time at the lab. Now he wakes in realization of who Sam was, and why he didn't remember him from before, but still confused of why he can't see into him.
He gets up and goes outside for a walk.
The others were riding around somewhere. Good, it gave Ace the opportunity to clear his mind, and think. Instinctively, he walks along his favorite street, not to far from where he lived before the encounter. He enters his old house.. more of a room, really. A 20x15 room hidden under a pillar holding up the tracks. No one alive knew it had been there, so it was Ideal for a hideout. All along the walls were his plans, in intricate detail, the facts that he remembered turned into a prediction of the future. Since he had left the force, he had become homeless, he had to. He knew that they were going to be hunted. So he maneuvered his way under the nose of the system. He used his talents to use people, and disappeared without a trace. He gets his food for free, he gets his water free, his clothes, his everything.
But his life was lonely, because he had forgotten about his friends. When he started to remember, it was then when he devised a plan to get them together. He would have to influence the military to chase them, one person at a time, or at least make it look like they were going after them. So he decided to make it appear like it, because if he was to start them on the chase for real, he wouldn't be able to undo it. But now, it is for real, and he doesn't know why.
Still, the plans were sent to waste the second he saw Samuel in the park.
Samuel has he power to see the strings that attach everything together, and he can cut, pull and reorganize them at will. He can alter reality. So why can't he stop this? Was Samuel really Trustworthy?

[I couldn't find a "Walker Avenue" on Wikipedia. I assume that it's a fictional street?]

"Here! Stop here!" Sarah said to Emily when they drove into Walker Avenue. They stopped in front of an appartement complex. It seemed like it was well taken care of, no vines climbing up the buildings or broken windows. State Street was a mere ten minutes walk from here.

"Alright, this is personal buisness for you lot. I'll be off now. I'll see you here in an hour or two. Three at the most. Until then."

Samuel got out of the car. The streets were packed with people even at this early hour. He shut the car door and walked with the stream of the people. He followed the signs towards State Street. He held the adress in his hand, making sure that he wouldn't miss the Doctor.

He ended up before a complex similair of the one they had parked in front of, but it wasn't as well kept. A few cracks in the wall ran up the building and several patches of graffiti decorated the walls. He checked the adress once again. This was the building. He got inside.

The entrance was gloomy and not very well lit. A few benches were placed directly next to the door. A woman holding a small child sat on it. She had red eyes, probably from crying. He walked towards her and asked:

"Excuse me, do you live here?"

The woman looked up to him.

"I used to.." She said. Samuel nodded.

"Do you know if someone of a russian origin lives here?"

The woman looked shocked.

"Doctor Greggory lives in number 5."

Samuel smiled and thanked the woman. He didn't expect that the doctor would keep his original name. But still, living in the same spot for over seven years? That was sloppy. He took the stairs and saw a door with a copper 5 on it. The paint was coming off the door. He focused. He could feel the doctor inside the room, behind a computer. This brought back memories from the outbreak. They had been a bit theatric back then. He decided that it was time to do it again.

He lifted the strings of the "4" button on the key board and put it down next to the doctor. Then he stopped focussing on the strings and heard something fall to the ground inside. Probably the good Doctor. Samuel opened the door with a grin..
