Terramax:
I guess it's understandable to enjoy the 64 more if you're really young (like 10 or under) but for everyone else, there's no excuse.

N64 all the way. For precisely the opposite to the reason above

1: Lylat Wars (Starfox 64)
2: Perfect dark (slayers on Skedar)
3: Ocarina of time
4: Smash Brothers
5: Conker's BFD
6: Mario Kart
7: Mario Tennis
8: Rogue Squadron
9: Rage Wars
10: SF Rush

The PS1 had lots of games that were great to play by yourself (MGS, GT1/2, Silent Hill, Colony Wars/Vengeance/Red Sun, Wipeout). But thats the problem, In a month or so the game was finished and you'd never really need to play it again. Although Wipeout, especially Wip3out is still scarily addictve.

Excepting Ocarina of time and Rogue squad. All of those titles obliterated months and years of my life. Whether it was going undefeated for 2 years on Star Fox or the twithcing psychosis brought on by 12 hours straight of Smash brothers.
Or the 'pew pew' of the Laptop gun, or the 'Phhhoooom!' from a homing rocket, either signalling that you'd just blundered into certain death.
Or even the daft tune the hammer makes, followed by twenty seconds of total panic.

I can't think of any ps1 games that held me and my friends collective attention for years at a time. Come to think of it, I can't think of any PS2 titles that did either.

wait...did I read someone say that not one mario game can be considered a classic? Let me guess....you work for Sony?

I was on Sega's side during the whole SNES vs genesis war and even I will admit that Mario games rule.
