Of course it is!
The PS2 is being released in poor countries these days.
Its still on sale for 70p in Europe at least, the original Xbox got discontinued in 2006.
Games are also still being made for the PS2.

Mine got busted way back, planning on getting a new one sometime.
Favorite games?

The GTA games were fab-tacular - Also Gran Turismo, Spyro etc.
Too many to mention.

This is exactly why Sony didnt make it possible to play the PS2 on the PS3.. the PS2 still sells on its own!

I'd post a source - that's quite a claim to make when you don't even provide a link...

In any case, I still have my PS2, and the games I have the fondest memories of include (but are not limited to) Silent Hill 2, MGS2, GTA 3, and Resident Evil 4.
