So I've been looking at the PS3 lately as it seems to have come in to it's own a little more; the first year or so of it's launch was pretty much a disaster on Sony's part.

I'm much more of a PC gamer, but recently became the owner of a 360 just before he realised I'd probably prefer a PS3 - the 360 now seems more like a rather cheap PC in which you have to pay for everything, whereas the PS3 has the likes of inFamous and Uncharted 1/2 which are far less likely to ever appear on a PC than a 360 exclusive is.

If someone could:

1) Name the best place to buy a PS3 (in the UK & in store)
2) Recommend some games
3) Say whether or not you'd think I should sell the 360 (PS3's aren't really that cheap)
4) Give an indication of how much games shared with the 360 suffer in terms of performance, etc.*

Feel free to go into far more detail than those points if you'd like, I'll appreciate the help.

*Obviously this would be for someone who's played some of the same games on each platform.

EDIT: Also, the Slim or the older model - does it make much difference other than space saving? I can't really see much difference in price so I'd probably go for the Slim anyway, but it'd be nice to know.

Also for PSN exclusives, go for Flower and Flow, both are great

And for other exclusive retail games, don't forget to try out Folklore, Valkyria Chronicles and Uncharted 2

What?, whats wrong with Killzone?

Get Far Cry 2 if you like shooty whizz bang fun, when it comes to multiplats Xbox tends to have the upper hand but that is starting to change as devs get the hang of the PS3 (such as Far Cry 2 which is superior on the PS3)

And if Far Cry 2 runs well on the PS3 you can bet any future CryTek game will be superior on that platform.

If your looking for a better online experience then stay with xbox. Sure the ps3 has an internet browser which is useful but for the online gaming aspect of things, xbox rules.

I have a ps3 and i would love to buy and xbox but i have so many games for the ps3 that its not worth it.

I think the xbox is better online because nearly every xbox user has a mic and feck all ps3 users have one and the ones that do are mostly children.

Fat Princess, bunch of PSN titles, Uncharted 2, um...

Folklore and Demon's Souls are excellent, if you can find them.

1) Sainsbury were doing a deal where you could buy a 120GB PS3 Slim plus two games for about £250. If this deal is still on I'd recommend it- even if you just sell the games (I did, made £52)
2) Bioshock, Arkham Asylum, Oblivion/Fallout, Dead Space, Little Big Planet
3) Depends. I have nothing against the 360 and I own both- the ps3 is better for playing movies and the online is free, so I pretty much just keep it there for Viva Pinata.
4) ...they don't?
The only difference I've ever truly seen is that the 360 version of Dragon Age Origins has some dreadful graphic jumping by comparison.

Thanks, I've played Far Cry 2 on the PC though and it's awful(ly boring). xD

Oh, and Ubisoft made the second, it had nothing to do with Crytek.

I'd only play online for the exclusives - everything else will go on the PC. The only impression I've gotten from XBL is that it's:

a) A total rip off
b) Full of racist/homophobic idiots

Thanks though.

At least I can give you a recommendation:

METAL GEAR SOLID on PSN.

That is all.

Yeah sorry, I meant the quality of the PS3 versions; they're often said to suffer in direct comparisons, but when it's 2 frames less or something I don't think anyone notices the difference when playing.

Get a headset if you plan to play online, but for the love of god don't get the Giotek one, it's makes my ear sore, maybe I just have crazy ears. Also remember you can't change your online name, so choose wisely. Mine's my dreadfully boring name here, nicole1207. I feel inadequate next to all the epic names I see.

Since the PS3 uses a much higher quality processor I find that rather hard to swallow, but I don't much intend to make this yet another comparison thread. I suppose since the PS3's system is quite a new and complicated one developers haven't quite gotten around to working it yet, I heard Fallout 3 had this problem. Still, it's nothing you can ever actually see while playing.

Just to make this clear, most Ps3 exclusives are vastly overrated, especially Infamous and most PSN titles.
I actually thought inFAMOUS was a pretty fun game, but yeah, the PSN games do suck (for the most part.)

It's because hardly anyone who isn't owned by Sony knows how to properly programme for the processor cell thingy's. Trying to then port it from a then totally different system where they have to remain pretty much on par is even harder.

Basically, it's what consoles do to PC gaming, except now they're doing it to each other.

Am I like the only person on earth that likes a good shooter then?

Yes I know its not made by CryTek, but the Dunia engine the game runs on is based on CryTek's CryEngine from 5 years ago (and it still looks shit hot), I'm assuming that by my weird logic that the CryEngine3 will be superior running on the PS3.

Online for PC hu? Well then you should sell the 360, since they usually share games the ps3 doesn't have. You'd get more games to play if you had PC and PS3 (although you probably already know that).

I'd recommend the first PS3 version (60gb) since it has backwards compatibility, and so you could get some really awesome PS2 exclusives (It's the best console ever for a reason), but if you'd rather take a PS3 slim that's cool too. (although now you won't be able to play the whole MGS-saga, which kinda sucks)

Taking recommendations on games can be a risky thing, since people can have mixed opinions (How could someone dislike InFamous?), so it would probably be best if you based your game-purchases on reading reviews.

That's about all the information I have at the moment. I'll try to give more tips if I come up with some. Good luck.

(Also, PSHome sucks, just thought you should know)

Oh wait, I could give you a list of the exclusives with multiplayer that I know of:

Killzone2
Resistance 1-2:
Uncharted 2:
MGS4:
That new Final Fantasy thingy (not out yet):
MAG (not out yet):
All those racing games I don't know the name of but seem cool:

I think I've missed a couple, but these should be enough. Also, remember that they are exclusives with online, there are exclusives without.

Ok, bye for real now.
