im really one for a game with a good narrative, i don't really enjoy fps or games with a tit load of violence. i do like action, just not violence, especially when it's the most salient feature of the game. so the black ops game that came with my ps3 that i bought the other day, im not really getting into it. i want a game with a good adult oriented story, which is why i bought and am now extremely disappointed with mgs4.
anyways, game with a good story, not targeted for people who haven't started puberty and doesnt feature any space, or earth, marines?

Heavy Rain is the first that springs to mind, but I'm only thinking of PS3 exclusives.

I like the Ratchet and Clank stories.

Many because there are no stupid romantic love interests to get in the way to using guns that turn enemies into sheep and ducks!

Highly recommend LA Noire; the narrative is top notch. And you were disappointed with MGS4? did you play 1-3 or just jump in? Whatever, besides the point. If you don't have Uncharted 2, I'd try that as well (and Heavy Rain is a given).

Of the PS3 games I own, Heavy Rain, and White Knight Chronicles are 2 games with both a good story and narrative.

Demon's Souls has a very deep story and rich world, but (from what I've seen so far), a lot less told to you in a conventional narrative.

I only own like 6 PS3 games though. xD

Nier had an excellent story, in my opinion. It's narrative and soundtrack are top notch. But thats just me :p to balance it out, I loathe the 2 supporting characters that do the fighting with you. Everything else was wonderful

And MGS4 wasnt about the violence, you could beat the whole game without harming a soul. But it requires you to have played the other games I guess.

This too. It has an excellent story and magnificent characters, none of which are told to you.
the intro scene is the most the game will readily tell you about the story, afterwards its wholly dependent on interaction with the characters for development

You can't go wrong with the uncharted series- great characters, great story, great games.
Infamous' story is pretty solid too.

Lets see...

Heavy Rain has a good story... Eternal Sonata is also nice, about Chopin's final dream before death... Pity they didn't do a better job, but if you are willing to read between the lines its a good story. Very anime though, which might put you off.

NIER is... interesting if you let it be, but it's also hard to recommend.

There are all the Telltale adventure games, Sam and max, monkey island, back to the future. All good fun and highly recommenced.

EDIT: How could I forget beyond good and evil HD

I strongly support this message.
Infamous 2 is even better than the first one, though you will want to play them in order.

Valkyria Chronicles: Sure it's all anime style and has a reckless regard for logic at times but it has a great story and is a brilliant game.

Oh shit I forgot about this.

This this this. Truly an amazing game, and don't let the visuals put you off however much you dislike anime, the game is very pretty in it's own right and tells a fantastic story with unique gameplay mechanics.

I must be really tired to forget this game.

I'd say the Uncharted series have fun stories. Delicious, B-movie style adventurism. I dig it.

My vote is on the Uncharted games. I don't think I've ever wanted a game to keep going after it ended so badly.
The Saboteur also have a lot of story too it. Gameplay wise it's pretty much just a mix between GTA and Assassins Creed. I had tons of fun playing through the game however.

Also... Get Assassins Creed II and AC: Brotherhood. <3

MGS4 has a good story if you can bear the cutscenes [sub]you won't[/sub] and if you have played the first 3 ones in depth [small] i didn't [/small]
But infamous is pretty good even if it goes insane.
But my favourite story game has to be Red Dead Redemption, even though you can get it on other platforms.
