OT: Depends whether you want to play Sony or Nintendo games more. The Wii U is backwards compatible, so you can also play the dozens of great games that you likely missed out on first time round. But PS3 gets you games like TLOU and Puppeteer. So really it just comes down to whether you'd rather play Sin And Punishment 2, W101 and Pikmin 3 or Uncharted, MGS4 and Little BigPlanet.
Let's not forget that on the off chance he missed owning a PSX or PS2 (the second and best gaming libraries in history respectively as far as sheer volume and overall number of classics if you ask me), the PS3 is backwards compatible with the PSX, and he'll have access to PSX and PS2 classics via the PSN. There are a ton of games worth playing among those that you just won't find anywhere else.

If you're going to eventually have both, I would get the PS3 first, Wii U second. While the Wii U has some good games out, there are several more that aren't out just yet. Getting the PS3 now means you'll have more games to enjoy right now, as opposed to having to wait. Getting a Wii U right now means having to wait for more of the good games.

In short, the PS3 has a lot more to enjoy right now than the Wii U does. If you're getting both, get the PS3 first because that'll give the Wii U time to get more excellent titles out for you to enjoy, while you're having fun on the PS3. Fun now, fun later. Everybody wins! Except the monsters.

I would say PS3. It's already got a substantial library, so you wouldn't be rolling the dice on if the WiiU library ever picks up (like the Wii didn't). Plus the PS3 is cheaper, and the games by now are much cheaper as well.
The Wii actually had a great library. It's just that gamers never went out and actually bought the good games that came out for the system.

I had the Wii. Looked high and low for games besides Zelda and Metroid. Came up close to empty. The WiiU does look to be an improvement, though whether or not that lasts is anyone's guess.
I'm going to be in the middle on this. I think the wii's library was very lacking, the worst Nintendo's had so far. That said, there are a lot of great games on it and there are a lot more things to do on it then Metroid and Zelda.

But back to OP

Which should I buy this coming month?
If you already have a 360, you can get most worthwhile PS3 games already, so I would get the wiiU. The wiiU isn't limited to last gen's selection; it will eventually get new, great games while the PS3 will peter off. BUT if you don't have a 360 and you missed most of last gen, definitely get the PS3 instead. There is no hurry to get either as the big hitters of the wiiU aren't out yet and the PS3 game prices will only go down from here. So no pressure. There is no wrong decision.

I've got a decent enough gaming rig. It can handle most of the next generation on high/mid without any forseeable issues. I've currently got a 360 and a 3DSXL. The XL was because my girlfriend wanted to play Pokemon X and Y with me and Mario Kart 7, because no matter how old I get, I will always enjoy killing people in goofy looking carts as my ridiculously fucked up looking Mii. I'm interested in the PS3 for the 1.5 remake as I mentioned, the WiiU because I like Nintendo games(Who among us doesn't?) I'm contemplating waiting a few weeks, maybe a month or two, for the inevitable price decrease post-launch or the dreaded "Black Friday" as you 'Mericans call it, to snake one or both. I'm on a tight budget so finding a good long lasting game experience is essential to me. The Ps3 seems like the better option in my mind because it has that rather robust library, of which I have several fond memories. That and the PSN store with a handful of FF titles, but, I have a PSP as well, so I might just buy them through it and make it a portable experience...Yeah I seem to be talking myself out of the position of wanting them. I feel like I wasted everyone's time now. In any case, the majority seem to feel that the best bet is to find a PS3 over the WiiU since I'll be getting both sooner or later. (I bought the Wii simply because of Mario Kart Wii, and that I bought 3 god damned times because of various "life" things that happened to separate me from being able to play the game. Not counting the number of times the file was erased, or lost altogether because of a dead Wii, or because I bought my own after moving out from the "nest".). On a different note, if I go down the 3ds/PSP route for a few months, got any good rpg recommendations? I'm getting the LTTP sequel, the 3 Nintendo E-shop Zelda titles(My childhood was Links Awakening) and considering getting FF7-9 on the PSN store for the PSP. Anything in that genre would be awesome, something grindy/mindless with a good story to kill a few weeks worth of spare time would be nice.

Personally i'd go with the PS3 as it had an extensive game library already and will still be supported for a few years into the PS4s lifetime, the new models are backwards compatible with PS1 games (but not PS2, but you can pick those up for a song anyway), the PSN is free if you don't get PS+ (which is a good service so far), which also gives you access to PS1 and PS2 games digitally. The PS3 also has quite a few great exclusive game and series; like inFAMOUS, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, LittleBigPlanet etc. I could list more but then I'd have to google it. Also, with the PS3 coming towards the end of its life, the games and the consoles themselves are getting cheaper.

While the Wii-U might have a few games out now with a few scheduled, i'm still a bit dubious, the current games library is not that great (discounting Wii games) and while yes it's backwards compatible, there isn't that many great games that have been released for the Wii overall. That being said, the Wii-U has promise, but if you're going to be able to get both eventually, wait a little to get the Wii-U see what else comes out for it, by then it might also have dropped a little more in price as well.

I say go with whatever library is the most appealing to you as for my self I enjoy the PS3 but given that the Wii U has backwards compatibility with the Wii (which has a few games that I would like to play) as well as Earthbound (one of my personal favorite games of all time) being on the virtual console, the promise of Bayonetta 2, and some of Nintendo's first party IP's I can see the pro side of the Wii U the only complaint I can see is that the Wii U has only a few games for it and is banking on future promise.

(there have also been rumblings that the best Zelda ever, Majora's Mask, might get a remake soon :O)
Didn't know that I think I need to get a Wii U if they do that.

Here's a list of some games that should be a lot of fun. Some are more expensive than others, but overall it's not bad.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (RPG fun)
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Okamiden

Now for the 3DS, which has some fun games:
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
Pokemon X/Pokemon Y
Sonic Generations
Kid Icarus Uprising
Shin Megami Tensei 4
Fire Emblem Awakening
A Link Between Two Worlds
Shantae
Shantae: Risky's Revenge (both are on the 3DS shop)
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages
Ocarina of Time 3DS
Super Mario Land 3D

Now for PS3 here are some titles I highly recommend (I own both a PS3 and Wii U)

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5
Ratchet and Clank Future Series
Sly 4 Thieves in Time
Final Fantasy 5-9 (believe me they are good)
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD
One Piece Pirate Warriors (it's fun and if you like One Piece it's good)
Journey (Indie PSN game)
Disgaea series (if you like SRPGs)

For the PSP I own one, but while there isn't much there are still some good ones.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep/Birth by Sleep Final Mix (PSP isn't region coded so you can import games)
Dissidia Duodecim
Daxter
Crisis Core
MediEvil Resurrection
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Secret Agent Clank
Ape Escape On the Loose (remake of Ape Escape 1, fixes some things but adds some problems. Overall still good though0

And in the future when you get a Wii U, get these games
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker U
Wonderful 101
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Super Mario 3D World
Smash Bros U
Mario Kart 8

And just because I love plugging this video, here's why the Ratchet and Clank Future series on the PS3 is worth a play.

Didn't the WiiU just get a price drop? I'd say get that one now. The PS3 will likely drop in price once the PS4 comes out and you can get one then. That's what I'd do.

Of course it really comes down to the games you want to play. And I don't know you well enough to know what you like. So... yeah. WiiU first, PS3 come the new year. That's my rec.

IMO there's only a few games out for the WIIU that I'd like to play, granted there's more to come, but that's later. For now the ps3 has about 20 games I still want to play, between full blown ps3 releases and psn titles (I recently found some awesome old JRPG's from the ps1/ps2 era that I missed the first time around). In the end it comes down to your own opinion, so maybe a way to help you decide is think of what you plan on playing on it? how long does it need to last you before you plan on upgrading (either getting a new system or whatever), then some of the more trivial features. In the end it's your call, just make an educated decision.

Which should I buy this coming month? I've got enough extra cash to get one but not both(About 100 bucks short for both.) So, PS3 which has a robust library(Including the lovely Kingdom Hearts 1.5) or the WiiU which has the always entertaining Windwaker Bundle.(I'm a die hard Zelda fan. I'm buying a 3ds 2 weeks after buying my first (An XL) from a pawnshop because it's the Legend of Zelda one for a mere 123.99 simply to put it away and never, ever, play it. Because of reasons. Anyway. Which is better to go after PS3 or WiiU? I'll be getting both sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.
PS3. It's got a massive catalog of games (compared to the Wi-U obviously), and better games in my opnion. Considering it's games have been out for a while you'll also potentially find them cheaper than Wii-U ports. Playstation Plus is really good value as well, they're always mixing up their 'instant game collections' with quite a few good titles.

If you've got money to throw around: Wii-U, if not PS3.
