Pretty Fun.
Probing planets is boring (except for a small part in the local cluster), at beginning probed every planet in every cluster until I got tired of that, (about 3/4).
Battle system is ok. No complaints.
Like: Kelly (and romance'd, pity can't do more with her), Kasumi, Jacob, Thane, Zaeed, Mordin (I am the model of a Scientist Salarian....), EDI.
Romance'd: Miranda (because Kelly doesn't "count" :( ), Jack and Tali strike me as a little... weird.
Chose the romance Liara option in the intro comic. After actually meeting her in game though... Starting to regret it.
Love the Widow(? most powerful, the one you get on collector ship) Sniper Rifle (Playing as Infiltrator)
Enjoy getting to know crew, even the weird ones.
Trying to play as "me", however some of the dialog options do not go as expected so I looked in the manual. Learning what position on the dialog wheel typically means for that option partially cleared things up for me, however it also partially ruined things for me because now when in dialog if i still am unsure about options or even have the slightest hesitation my hand automatically chooses most paragon option.
Enjoy helping NPC's.
Still on first play-through, about 55 hours in. Going to kill broker. Still need to do Thane's loyalty. Still haven't got IFF.
Money/Element Zero seems tight.
Have too many minerals for my own good.
Vehicle sections average, not irritating. Overlord vehicle section more irritating, see ship go into ground, ground heavily pixellated.
90% Paragon 10% Renegade
Found a bug in talking Ish out of information.
Somehow managed to have Garrus stand on top of a guy's head. Thought I would lose him if I went to far. Enjoyed the auto teleport function that makes sure your teammates are with you. Slightly irritating when I look behind me, then look in front of me an they are there.
Love/Hate how paragon/renegade can give you "auto win" button in conversations.
Probably forgot a few things.
Overall: Great
Only a few moderate problems.
Quite a bit more light problems.
Enjoyable Characters
So far, enjoyable story
Despise Morinth.
Some frame rate issues

Played it on the PC when it came out, but:

People find Jack annoying? YOU'RE ALL WANKING OVER BLOODY TALI AND YOU FIND JACK ANNOYING?!

This is madness!
I prefer Miranda myself. Tali is cool but her weird bendy claw legs don't do it for me.

And yeah, I found jack as irritating as shit... especially when she said stuff like 'I'm a cold, hard *****' while listening to Dashboard Confessional.
YES! someone else does exist!

i always had a confused look on my face when people would dog on miranda but then fall in love with jack

miranda = assertive hot chick who knows how to get stuff done. nuff said

jack = a annoying ***** who is a ***** just to be a ***** and make everyone else have a bad day. plus her clinging to those issues from childhood...UGH GROW UP

tali..eh..i dont have any infatuation towards her, but i don't hate her

oh and my roommate got the game, he is highly enjoying it, he loves the gameplay and he thinks its really polished. so i figured i would just add his input

Scions suck no matter what platform they are on!!
Have you tried Insanity difficulty?

You'll want to punch the guy who came up with them.
I'm inclined to partially agree, on lower difficulties these things were a fucking nightmare, but that's when I had no idea how to play the bloody game, once insanity forced me to learn how to play they were the easiest unit for me (hint: I was a vanguard).

Whoever came up with the first fight on the abandoned collector vessel fully deserves to rot in hell, I had nightmares about that fight scene (it was a lot easier when played with a fresh insanity character instead of a level 30 import).
just had to quote and say, your avatar is the best i have ever seen.

Got it on release day and I'm loving it. Beaten it once and started a second by transferring my character over. I didn't particularly find Jack annoying, but I did think that Miranda was a *****. Started to romance Kelly (only got up to the date) but ended up with Liara instead (my Shepherd was a player).

Overall, my 3 years of avoiding spoilers for the series paid off.

That is the main reason I'm still stuck in the collector ship because they keep killing me and my crew off and I haven't gone back since.
Yeah that part sucks, it's pretty unfair. But the good news is once you're past it the game gets easier, there are no more spikes as hard as it.
I hate them so much! If they don't directly hit you with that shockwave they force you to break cover into either a wave a hot plasma from the Collector beams or a horde of punchy Husks.
If I'm thinking of the same spot the only way I got passed it was by firing the M-920 Cain mini-nuke launcher. It vaporised about three Scions and six Husks.

As someone who owns both the 360 and the PS3, I must say that, if given the choice, go with the 360 version. Don't get me wrong. The PS3 version is fun and if you are curious you need to play it. I'm on my second playthrough to get the last three trophies that I need (Insanity, Romance, and Platinum). However, there are so many things that are missing from the PS3 version. Little, non-important things (except everything regarding Feros), but they are are glaring omissions to anyone who knows that they're supposed to be there. Now, if ME2 on the PS3 had all these missing things, then it truly is a toss up on which version you should play.

I bought ME1 for my Xbox when I first bought my Xbox, and I loved it. I just bought ME2 for my PS3 since the PS3 version comes with all the DLC. I'm actually quite impressed with how smooth it plays, and it is quite a improvement over the more RPG oriented ME1.

That's funny, I bought my 360 for Mass Effect........... I had been thinking about getting a 360 for a while at the time, but nothing had grabbed me. As soon as the release date for ME was given then I knew I would *need* one, lol.

I downloaded the demo to check it out, see if it looked any prettier. I haven't tried it yet; you get an hour once you start. I'm going to see how far I can get in an hour.

I can't see liking it as much without the background of the first one though. I mean, meeting up with Garrus, it would mean so much less without the back story.

Also, you would have less issue joining with Cerberus. I think you'd be more likely to trust them, not having gone through all the Cerberus troubles in the first game.

I've played both games on the 360 and I loved them both.

I've never played the PS3 version of ME2, so I can't really say what I think about it.

From what I heard from the Bioware social network forums, the comic in the begining could've been a whole lot better in giving PS3 owners back story of the first game. Of course considering the circumstances, I guess it can't be helped.

(Not to mention some of the people on the Bioware social network are very hardcore fans of the first game.)

Oh I did. I tracked down the e-mails and names of the developers, more specifically the ones responsible for the enemies.

Oh man. Insanity on Horizon with Sentinel..That was T O R T U R E!
Dear god. That level was annoying for me even on the default difficulty setting. I HATE scions.

The cutscene at the end was worth it though.

I found the best way to deal with that part was to run around in circles kiting the husks everywhere. The scions were easy enough once you hid behind the high walls as opposed to getting into cover.

The Collector Ship ambush was the worst part for me. I hated the team-mate AI so much during that fight.

And meeting
Wrex... 'Shepard! My friend!'

That moment warmed my heart so much in ME2... it wouldn't be the same not having spent time with him in ME1.

A PC gamer here, so i won't vote :)
I'm just glad everyone can play this game now (as it should be for every game). For the Scions...after biting the game 6 times (veteran/hardcore/insanity/insanity/insanity....) i'd advise as others did, keep your distance, remain mobile (best used with snipers fired by soldiers(with adrenalin rush) or infiltrators who get time slowing with snipers). They are more dangerous on easier difficulty levels because the game does not prepare you for them. But if you start a game on insanity you'll have enough know-how by the first time you meet them. Still, Horizon is one of the harder battles, but not that hard.

OK, just finished it a couple days ago. My thoughts:

-Not having played ME1, some things didn't have the emotional resonance I'm sure they would have for people who did. I'm sure seeing Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Anderson, etc. would have had more impact on me if I'd played ME1--the interactive comic was more like Cliff Notes: useful, but you miss a lot. And going back and reading about the Cerberus missions from ME1, had I actually played through those, I would have had a much stronger reaction to finding out they're my new backers.

-I end up mentally comparing ME2 to the only other BioWare game I've played, Dragon Age: Origins. Some complaints lodged against DA:O was that it was long and talky. It was, but having spent so long with my companions in that game, having long, revealing conversations with them, hearing their comments and suggestions on most courses of actions, and most importantly their random banter with each other, they felt like real people to me. (Well most of them, anyway.) In ME2, the whole second act is recruiting your squad, who give you a brief info dump. Then a while later, they talk to you about their personal problems they want you to solve. You get a more personality and backstory after the loyalty missions, which is great. But the rest of the time they tell you they're busy. And they almost never interact with each other. So you have a bunch of relatively shallow characters who only talk to you when they need something. Don't get me wrong, they're miles past most video game characters in terms of writing and depth, but pale compared to DA:O. (I recognize DA:O had twice the development time of either ME game.)

-I mostly hate the Paragon/Renegade system. The interrupts were kind of neat (little warning would have been nice), but the stupid dichotomies that were set up (do you want to be naive or an asshole?) were weak. That said, playing as Paragon it was nice to see a few moments (the quarium slave on Ilium; awakening Grunt) where the Paragon option managed to be idealistic and smart at the same time. It's better than most moral choice systems, but not by much. Again, DA:O avoided this; let's hope DA2 follows suit.

-The gameplay was good. I played as an Infiltrator sniper specialist, so half the time my squad felt superfluous, but it was fun figuring out the best strategies to take out the various opponents, and how to maximize the effect of tech and biotics. It was nice not having to worry about inventory management and min/maxing weapons and the usual RPG nonsense (I'm saving the galaxy, not starting a brisk trade in munitions!). Undermined by having ammo only affect Shepherd, and having to spend hours scanning planets. The dialogue wheel was OK except what you picked wasn't what you said half the time (which they're improving with an icon in DA2--excellent).

-DLC was top-notch. Here, definitely, ME2 far surpasses DA's lacklustre DLC. Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi's loyalty mission were my favourite (and Kasumi was a pretty useful squadmate in the middle sections of the game). Project Overlord was good at reinforcing just how amoral Cerberus is to those of us who didn't play ME1. The Hammerhead missions were OK, but not as interesting. Neat environments though.

Overall: Didn't quite live up to the hype. It definitely suffered from "middle of the trilogy" syndrome of trying to outdo the original and set up the sequel at the same time. But still far superior to most games out there. Will definitely be coming back for ME3.
