The story goes that my father and I created the PS3 user information a year or so ago, including the 4 digit password that allows changing of user account settings. He passed away recently and bottom line is, I do not have the password. I looked up the online help guide, but I am not sure how to start an account from scratch without losing all of the game data I legally downloaded to the hard drive via PSN.

My question to more tech savvy people is: will my saved game data be lost from the hard drive if I it and start a new PS3 account? I will answer any other questions you have to be sure. I know that asking for tech help here is a bit out of place, but I have nowhere else to ask at this moment.

ouch, i personally dont know whats the PS3's behavior on different accounts (since i only have one account on my ps3).. ah completely new account on the same ps3 ... the ps3 will retain the saved (purchased) games, so even the new account can play it.. but i'm not so sure about the game progression...

I have a couple of 'profiles' with separate 'PSN accounts' set up on my PS3 with games purchased on both etc. I can access these games from any profile I use and I can be signed into different PSN accounts when I use them as well.

e.g.

1st profile with 1st PSN account has a game purchased on it, the game is sitting on the hard drive of the PS3.

I then have a 2nd profile with a 2nd PSN account which I am signed into and I can play any game that is on the PS3, even the ones that were purchased using the 1st profile and PSN account.

...I did something resembling that advice, and I can now enter the new card information.

You, sir or madam, have salvaged my evening.
