Right as of a couple of days ago one of my controllers has stopped working. It is an unofficial wired controller bought from blockbuster. The lights still go on when plugged in only it doesnt get assigned a specific number.

This had timed about the same time as I bought GT5 so im thinking the firmware update has probably fucked it over.

How can I get my controller back in use?

Probably should turn everything off, unplug it, then plug everything back in and turn it all on. I don't know much about PS3s, so you will probably get a reply from someone who knows what they are doing later...

Anyway, welcome to the Escapist!

Buy an XBOX 360, obviously!

...kidding, kidding.

Some important questions:
What brand is it?
Have you tried it with other games?
Tried plugging it into a different port?

And I'll assume you've already tried rebooting and unplugging any other accessories...

Sorry, that's about the limit of my technical help... they're pretty cheap, though, so you may have to just pony up and buy another one. Probably easier than trying to fix it :-/

Em, you do realise DualShock 2 controllers are for the Playstation 2?
Perhaps you mean the SIXAXIS controllers?

*nods* you're right, sorry half awake right now. I was thinking about the original ps3 wireless controllers. I saw them on sale at Walmart a while back. The new ones are dualshock 3 I believe but they're more expensive.

Mad cats taught me to stay the hell away from unofficial accessories for gaming.

Your best bet is to just buy an official Sixaxis or Dualshock 3 controller. They're not that expensive anymore.

I think that may be the reason.

Due to some people using 3rd party controllers to jailbreak the PS3, Sony released a firmware update (3.50, which would have been on the GT5 disc) that removed support for about 75% of 3rd party USB peripherals.

If it's a USB device and it's not an official Sony product, then chances are it won't work any more.

If you Google: "Sony removes 3rd party controller support" and you'll see lots threads and discussions about the issue and you may find a solution or temporary workaround, but chances are you'll just have to buy a new, official Sony controller.

They are still expensive enough for me to want to get my current controller working. I brought on in the summer and it was £35-40

Disgracful customer service really.
Is there anyway I can (ironically) jailbreak my PS3 so I can get the controller to work?
