I've owened a 360 for about 3 years and always considered myself a bit of a fan boy, however a month ago today I purchased a PS3 and have been struggling to decide which is better. I thought it would be interesting to hear peoples opinions in comparrison to my own . . .

I've always loved the xbox, have no qualms abouts the subscription for xbox live and think the exclusive games are fantastic. I wanted a Blu-Ray player and to play certain games i.e heavy rain, uncharted 2 and MGS4.

My conclusions are as follows:

1)Xbox live is awesome and is worth the money, PSN sucks (I got PS+ for the extra games too) This is an important point because I love online games and play Bad Company 2 loads. The party system on Xbox is just better and the service is worth £30 a year.

2)Blu-Ray is far superior to anything the Xbox has to offer, upscaled DVD's and streaming in HD is nothing in comparrison to watching something like Star Trek on Blu-Ray!

3)Having to install games, or download them and install is a pain in the ass, for some reason the PS3 takes forever to get things done!

4)As a follow up to the previous point, the PS3 is faster searching through menu's and seems easier to play content from my computer. Xbox market place is far nicer to use than the PS store.

5)Achivement points are far better than trophies, there is something more satisfying about the sound that unlocking an achievement makes that the PS3 doesnt have.

6)The Xbox controller is better for some games, the PS3 better for others. Xbox is better for shooters and racers, PS3 better for sports and fast paced action (I'm thinking Ninja Gaiden).

7) Both consoles have awesome games. I love my 360 for Halo, GOW, Mass Effect etc and the PS3 for Heavy Rain, MGS4, Uncharted etc.

In conclusion: The Xbox is American, its big and loud and loveable. The PS3 is Japanese, sleek, powerful and functional (that honestly isn't meant to be racist or steriotypical I see it as the difference between an American muscle car and a Japanese rally car) If you're in a position to own both then go for it. At the end of the day they both have awesome games and are good at different things.

This is pretty much how I feel about both my consoles. The only thing that I don't agree with is complaining about trophies... it's really not a big deal and a lot of people don't care about them at all.

I would also like to add the fact that I had Xbox Live Gold... then I bought a PS3 and my gold subscription eventually ran out. Normally, I would have renewed it immediately but I'm having a lot more fun with my PS3 that I can afford to wait a bit to renew. Just saying...

I have a strong belief that they are all the same, the only things that change on them is the exclusive games (i.e halo, god of war). I have both and use my xbox more because my friends have it.

Wow, wasnt expecting responses so soon. I agree Shootthebandit, my friends all have Xbox's or both. Its easier to jump from one game to the other as a party using thexbox party system (and the chat) so thats what we tend to stick to.

As for the trophies, I'm not really complaining, I just get more satisfaction out of achievements, not really fussed about either. They're just a reason to play a game again once completed and extend the life a bit. In some ways its nice not to care about trophies as then its possible to play the game because its fun father than to artificially "achieve" something.

Wow... I agree with all those points, well except for the first one. I just hated having to pay to play my games online, though the party chat, and being able to send voice messages and stuff like that were great.
Oh, and I owned both at one point, but then my xbox got RRoD for the third time and was out of warranty, so I didn't bother getting a new one.

An outsider? Well then welcome to are home.

I like the xbox better. It just has a larger number of games and they don't cost hundreds of dollors to buy.

I have a strong belief that everyone here who think one is better than the other is a dumbass, since they're both excellent games consoles, just with different strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I prefer the 360s controller, but prefer PSN and Trophies. I usually play my PS3 more because of free online and most of my friends have PS3s. I also find the XMB easier to navigate than the Xbox menus. There's a lot to be said about simplicity and the XMB has that simplicity. Xbox mnus are just too cluttered I find.

Thanks guys, its nice to hear that people have similar opions. It seems "fanboysism" comes down to the same 2 points every time. Which system has better games which is silly because they both have great ones that are worth playing, and which system you own, getting both is the best way to do it (although obviously not everyone is in that position) Playing good games shouldn't be tribal any more than watching good films or reading good books should be . . .

I've said this for a long time. Xbox 360 and PS3 are both great, if you have one, good for you. If you have both, even better.

I agree with the arguments you make about the technical things, but one of the things that makes or breaks a console is the people who play it online.

I can't do in-game chat on Xbox Live if I want to play my game peacefully. However if did get a working microphone and did speak on Xbox Live, I'd be bombarded with friend requests, non-stop misogyny, bullying and "cyber" requests. I wouldn't be able to play my game because too many people would be either sticking by me and fucking things up, or team killing me because "lolololol gurls shouldn't play online gb2thkchn."

The story is much more different on PSN. I have been playing on PSN for about as long as the PS3s have been out, and only twice have I encountered any misogyny, bullying, and requests for "cybering" as the result of my speaking up. I have never once been instructed to "get off PSN", I have never been to "go back to the kitchen", and most certainly not had my gender held against me. 99.9% of the people I play with don't care if I have two X chromosomes, all they care about is if I'm good at the game I'm playing.

While I do agree PSN's interface may not be quite as good as XBox Live, I can't help but feel PSN has the better user base.

I disagree with some of your points, but it's personal opinion and you are being more mature than most gamers these days.

The main selling point behind the Xbox during the first release was its cheaper price. People complained that Sony was going overboard with the PS3 by adding too much expensive hardware, etc.

But now the prices between the two consoles are starting to even out and we are now seeing the PS3 for its true worth. PS3 has Blu-Ray capabilities and with the firmware update coming out this month for 3D its not only a great gaming machine but its excellent for home entertainment. Granted not many people have 3D TVs at the moment but my point still stands.

Iv played most exclusives on both consoles and I do prefer the PS3 games. Sony has God of War, Infamous and Heavy Rain. While Xbox seems happy to just releasing sequels and prequels (Halo).

To be fair I am personally biased against Xbox because its a microsoft product. Iv never seen Microsoft as a very reliable company. Windows has the infamous blue screen of death, Xbox has the infamous red ring of death (sensing a pattern here), and the PS3 has well... Infamous, which is one of the best games Iv ever played.
