No, that's just PC Elitism talking. While it does take a fair bit of a while (Usually anywhere between thirty to seventy seconds) to load the game, once you're in there are no loading screens. As for the framerate, I've got it on 30 and never had an issue with it. There are enough great exclusives on the PS3 to get it over the 360 (It's also a free Blu-Ray player!). And a lot of the exclusives the 360 had ended up being on other platforms (Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Limbo, Gears of War (Although not the sequels)frobalt said:Are load times and frame rates really that bad?
I can't go back to DVDs after Blu-rays. Before I had an HD tv with a PS3 I thought Blue-ray and DVD looked pretty much the same. Now when I go back and watch DVDs on it I'm just like, "Holy balls this looks like crap!"frobalt said:I think at the minute I am leaning towards getting a PS3. I think it'd even get me buying blu rays as well.
I totally agree as the last RockStar game I've liked is either Vice City or Midnight Club 2, whichever came out last.Strelok said:NOT a reason to buy a PS3 Grand Theft Auto V (Sorry, Rock Star, in my opinion, hasn't made a good game since Vice City.

Like for instance, Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Netflix doesn't have all of them (UK Netflix anyway, haven't checked US Netflix).
I wouldn't be using it for Netflix anyway. If I buy a PS3, it'll be connected to my 24" PC monitor that I bought last week, which is capable of running 1080p and taking a HDMI input.
Graphics aren't a massive issue to me to be honest, so it doesn't matter to me that they aren't all in 1080p.
When buying a previous gen system, you aren't buying it because you care about being up to date with technology, you are buying it because there are games on it that are interesting and can be played.
One thing I am curious about is how much play time can you get out of it?
Saying someone was bored of it after a week doesn't mean much, because they could have been playing 4+ hours per day, meaning they got bored of it after 20 hours of game play, which isn't that bad.
During the week I'd only get a few hours or so a night to play it, and even then wouldn't spend my entire evening gaming, so it could last me quite a bit longer.
Having a high end computer and HD TV's doesn't make someone elitist, but telling others that last gens consoles are shit and not to touch them just because their not top end hardware with the highest stats is being elitist. Best hardware doesn't make a good game, or a good console, and for those with less money a PS3/360 are a good option.Ultratwinkie said:elitism:
The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
If you don't like 720p and 30fps, outdated standards that are now officially dinosaurs, its elitism?
Even loading times? When anyone can have fast loading times thanks to cheap SSDs?
Really? Stop crying elitism when someone doesn't want to stick to 2005 technology in 2014.
Do we call anyone who owns a 1080P TV elitist? Or anyone who has a smart phone? Both outpaced what the 7th generation consoles can do. They are the reason the Ps4 and xbone exist. Its not elitism anymore.
Its not favored treatment if its standard and common.
As a side note for OP: blue ray is kinda outdated when you have Hulu and Netflicks. physical media in general is on its way out. As I said before, digital just can't be beat.
The price point was in reference to getting a PS3/360 for gaming (not just 1 game), they now have games much cheaper than the PS4/XBO. For example a PS4/XBO game is $79-89 for a new game (and more if you go special/collectors editions) and that's it, but a new PS3 game is $49-69 for a new release and has alot of games in the $20 or less department due to it's massive library of older games you can pick up cheaper (these are all Australian prices from JB Hifi).Ultratwinkie said:For the price that he would end up paying for one game, yes it would be awful to buy right now. The generation just started and its hard to get a hold of the PS4. The transition has not been completed, people still hold onto the last gen because of slow adoption. The people that do want to sell will try to charge as high as possible to get a PS4.
Which I was right, the price was too high and the game price was too high. He'd be paying premium for old games that would be bargain bin price very soon.
Since rumors of GTA V on PC and next gen has been around since launch, buying a last gen console for a single game right now is the worst possible idea. Patience is a virtue. Which has been said time and time again. He doesn't seem really that interested in anything else but TLOU and buying a console at premium for 2 games is not a good idea either. He's best bet is waiting until it drops down to retro gaming price like the PS2 did and grab everything for a pittance.
Even the price point is still debatable. Which has been proven since the price scared him away. Not exactly convincing that its "poor man's gaming" when he ran from the price and bought what amounts to a humble bundle and playing a free to play. Its been obvious that the price for console gaming is high and its best to get the console when its retro when no one wants it anymore. Its retro, but people still cling onto it. So naturally the price will be high.
and lastly, best hardware is incredibly rare and unnecessary. You will never have a use for a 780 TI. You will never have a use for quad titans. You will never use that I7. There is a bar where any more power is functionally useless for a long tract of time, and that bar is pretty low because how much we progressed now. What you are dealing with is entry and mid range hardware which has been around for a while. We don't need high end because the regular stuff does whatever we want and more.
If there was ever an example, you are not racing against a lambo or Bentley. You are racing against a 1972 Ford Pinto. The "best hardware" is a gigantic myth that only exists in very small circles. According to steam, very high end makes up less than 1%. The only thing that matters is that its competitive with everything else, which these consoles aren't anymore. Even mobile phones have the power of these consoles. There is a reason we have the Ps4 now.
He already missed the console train for 7 years, it won't hurt to wait some more. It ain't going anywhere because very soon people will be trying to get rid of the things like they did with the ps2.
It isn't elitist to wait on something that is already on its way out. Its elitist to say "anything beyond _____'s level is elitist." It determines an absolute regardless of time past.
Which means anyone who buys a ps4 over an xbone is an elitist. Which is not true.
Does a one-time load of like ten seconds bother you?frobalt said:Are load times and frame rates really that bad?
