I think it irritates everyone when fanboy wars occur. And i've been thinking, what really makes people buy consoles, i think personally is, (for online) most of their friends have that console, the Xbox was out long before the PS3, so people got bored waiting and decided to go for the Xbox, of course others go for the Xbox because they are a big fan, which is totally justified, i liked the PS1,2 and 3 seemed the next logical thing to get, PLUS my friends have it, it was an extremely hard to decision to make i took weeks deciding which i preferred, weighing up the pro's and cons, like Xbox's better online, but PS3 is free, Xbox having more games, etc but i decided on the PS3 and i'm glad i did. I believe that the reason people argue, is because they have something they enjoy, and they dont like to think they made the wrong decision. Sorry about the rant, and if someones already done this before, i apologise also. I think i'm one of the many people who wish fanwars would stop, as really, if you've got something you enjoy, but someone else doesn't. let them have their opinion, and if they give some valid reasons why they don't like it, give some reasons why you like it, perhaps they will view it from a different perspective, or perhaps it wont change, just stop with the pointless arguing. :p

At the risk of sounding rude, without wanting to actually BE rude, welcome to the land of obvious.

A console (Well, the good ones) are a $300+ investment. That's a lot of money. If people admit they just bought a piece of crap for $300+, then they'll look like an idiot and they don't want that.

I'm not saying either machine (360 or PS3) is a piece of crap, but someone might view it that way because people are insecure and easily swayed by marketing and the rants of 13 year olds on the internet (Not a reference to you, DK412).

I got a 360 simply for Xbox Live, that's pretty much it... Still Xbox Live is awesome in my opinion, very nice done.

Yet all these "console wars" are stupid. They are both the same, the Xbox and Playstation, it's just the fanboys who talk crap. The only difference is that the Xbox has better online support.

To bad the WII outsold both consoles big time.

I got a 360 because I'd already played the family PS2 to death (it still works, I just played it a lot) and was sick of it. Decided a 360 would be great to bring to university, even though my internet connection is done by the uni itself so they won't let me use Xbox Live :(. However, one of my flatmates has a PS3 and the other has a Wii (gotta love drunken Singstar :D). There is absolutely no problems, each one simply caters to a different demographic (PS3 is good for those who like power and graphics, Wii is good for fun gameplay and a less serious style of game, and the 360 is good as an all rounder). Fanboy wars are stupid anyway, and with consoles what stops people from getting more than one? I have a DS and a PC as well as the 360, and that's perfectly fine. If people feel so strongly about a particular console then they can play it or not play it without telling everyone else that they're idiots for not getting the PS3 or whatever.

People like the Wii because it is fun, has many family games, is aimed at the casual demographic, and creates it s games accordingly.
People dislike the Wii because Nintendo has abandoned its original fanbase, and has given up releasing any games aimed at that group, and the hardcore fans don't want to be associated with the casual crowd.

People like the XBox 360 because it has strong online support, a strong games library, and places heavy emphasis on multiplayer.
People dislike the XBox 360 because it is made by Microsoft, has the Red Ring of Death issue, is too loaded down with mainstream games with little intellectual value (an observation, not a flammatory remark), and the online modes are loaded down with too many underage kids yelling profanities and obscenities.

People like the Playstation 3 because it has Blu-Ray, has a moderately strong games library, has many exclusive titles, and is a powerful pseudo-computer.
People dislike the Playstation 3 because it has weaker online capabilities (compared to the XBox 360), is too expensive, and has a small games library. Also, the newer PS3s are no longer backwards compatible.

I think I covered most of the issues here. Feel free to add more issues.

yeah, i think that people should be happy with the choice they made, and just understand both are good consoles, and arguing which is better changes nothing, it just causes irritation

This WILL turn into a flame war.
This doesn't need to become a hot issue. If you stand back from the violence and simply make 3rd perspective observations, it won't become an issue. Throw oil on the fire (as you are doing now) and then, yeah, a flame war is inevitable.

I like them both, but I am disappointed at the amount of 360 exclusives that are good. I didn't like Halo or Too Human, nor Viva Piñata. The only main exclusive I liked on it was Gears of War, but the original isn't an Xbox exclusive. Also, most 360 games come out on PC after a while. Fable 1 did, Halo 1 and 2 did, Gears of War did (But note epic have hinted that Gears of War 2 won't ever). So Really I'm disappointed in the exclusives. Oh and the fact that it's my 3rd Xbox.

Too not sound a fanboy I guess I must talk bad about my PS3 and I am disappointed in the Multi-platform titles for it. Most of them are not polished well, and just lazily ported from the 360. There are exceptions to this, Mirrors Edge, Alone in the dark, Mercenaries 2. But really games like Fallout 3, which are lazily ported and patched later don't get developers into my good books. Especially not when they make a game that isn't ported well and choose NOT to fix it. (I'm looking at you valve).

Now the Wii...Oh wait, this thread isn't about the Wii war. Maybe that's because there is little Wii-fanboys around. (Mainly because they are all stalking Yahtzee for the SSBB review. I swear that is the only place I have seen Nintendo Fanboys).

You pretty much covered everything there lol, and did so without saying anything that could start an argument. In my eyes anyway, and Triviun, yeah see, friends that can all benefit from all the different consoles. I would happily play an Xbox, and a PS3, as well as a Wii, they are all made to be fun, and they all are, so they are doing a good job

Sorry i didn't include Wii in this discussion, but as stated already, there aren't many fanboys for it, and i've never personally had a problem with any

I have never understood this mentality - the PC is not a console...so why bring it into the console "wars"? When a game is exclusive to the 360, but ported to the PC, that means its exclusive in terms of the console wars (my understanding). Besides, does it really matter if a game is on the PC or not?

Why is it so hard for everyone to accept the simple fact people enjoy different things? We are talking about pieces of plastic that spin discs to make images appear on a tv screen. Who cares if person A likes one type and person B likes another. And you know what I am no longer sure who is the worse offender here. It is simple to look at a post and call out a "fanboy" but aren't they creatures of our own creation? Why is it the "non-fanboys" are encouraging this kind of behaviour? Seriously does it matter if a person thinks Halo is the bestest game ever made? Does it harm someone if they say it? Does it personally affect anyone that they love something that you don't? Why can the internet just not let something of no importance go? I like it you don't nuff said. Well there is room for discussion on why you don't and I do (or vice versa) but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. These are the opinions of some random person with an oddly named handle. It is sad that we can't put our differences aside and have real discussions on how to make the industry and the world a better place and instead focus a majority of our time and energy bashing each other's console choice or game preferences. Even sadder is I am sure there are alot of people here and in other forums who have some great ideas that we will never hear because of this stupidity.

Bottom line we are all gamers. What you game on doesn't matter as long as you enjoy it. What you play doesn't matter as long as you enjoy it. And none of us have any right to act all superior when a persons opinion doesn't jive with our own. PC, Wii, PS3, 360 gamers are all equal. Don't want one or more of these consoles or thier respective games don't buy them and shut your pie hole. Can't have fanboys without a non-fanboy to encourage them.

It's kind of like having OCD. It's not "Exclusive" unless it is on one thing, and one thing only. Games coming out on 360 and PC after a while is becoming even more common. I just want an AWESOME 360 exclusive. (Gears of War 3 anyone?)

Edit:
oops! I didn't really answer your question. I bring the PC into the console wars because the PC is alot like a console, but has alot more uses. If it's a gaming machine, it should be in the Wars.

The Xbox 360 is so much better than the PS3 the grafx is always better. Halo 3 and Gears of War and Gear of War 2 are officilally the best games ever. Xbox live pwns PS3 home n00bs, wat is that like 2nd life cos u dont have one cos you have the Ps3 harhar! Mass Effects is best science-fi ever made and way bettar than sony could ever be, all sony has are RPGs about stupid idiots and sqeaky voicing. Xbox 360 has better games and controllers and monies is cost less.

I don't like fanboys that are oblivious to facts, but it's fun to argue with someone who knows something about a console.
But I agree, I'm sick of this.
This generation (Xbox360 and PS3) is the first generation I've been actively on the internet, while playing with the console.
When I had my PS2, PS1 and NES, it was so peaceful.
I bought games I was interested in, and I liked them.
In fact, when I had a PS2, I didn't even know the Xbox existed.

I hope this is sarcasm, but I do agree, that the Xbox 360's controller is far superior to the PS3's controller.

When i say the term fanboy, i mean someone who, when you mention that you have a console, ie ps3, they will automatically start bashing it, saying the 360 is better or whatever, not people who enjoy games and say it a lot.

Noooo! Ur so wrongs! PS3 iz best consolse eva. Blu-Ray means better films and can store like 500TB of data so it can run like 32k textures and everything. And sund is so much bettar. In fact, the cell processor can calculate the chances of it outselling xbox 360 and wii cos sonfy defense force said so. Halo and gears are already beaten by Resistance 2 and will be even more beaten by Killzone 2 which looks better than Crysis on the best settings. HA! PS3 will rule 2009-2025! And ur gonn be so jellous u haven't got one and theyr gonna check ur xbox live account and then Sony wont sell u one and u'll never play the best game ever MGS4.
