PS3's Yellow Light od Death

My PS3 overheated the other day and now when attempting to power up, a yellow light flashes briefly and then flashes red repeatly. Is there any way to correct this without sending the system away for six+ weeks? It is a 60gig system bought new in Janurary of 07, if that makes a difference. Can anybody help please?

I think it's a firmware error. You'd have to find some way to reload the entire operating system back onto the HDD.

Have you asked Sony how long it will take? I've had similar problems (disk drive breaking, faulty HDMI port) and the first time it was really quick (i'm from the UK) and second time they had a hard time finding me a replacement 60GB. Depends how much you want to play your old PS2 games (If there's still a software-BC for PS2 model in your country i'd ask for one of them).

The Wii has a blue light when you get mail.... Which is rather stylish and makes me never want to check the mail in order to keep that cool blue light.

I had this too. Unfortunately, not much you can do other than send it in for repairs.

It happened to me too. It only took about 3 weeks to get it repaired. Send it away.

My PS3 did this about a month ago. It was running fine and then crashed for no reason. Now everytime I turn it on it blinks yellow then goes back into standby mode. I can't even remove the disk from the drive.

From what I can tell there's no fucking way to sort it other than send it for repair, which means risking losing all my save data on my HD because there's no way to backup the data.

Real pain in the arse.

Well there was a bug in one of the first few updates of the Wii where it would brick your console. So us early adopters would see the blue light and pray our consoles wouldn't brick.

Only online consoles have this problem, I think they all got it from PC and his BSoD...

I love how the PS3 owners CONSTANTLY give us 360'ers shit about RROD, then draw the curtains when they get home as they frantically try to fix their precious playstations before we see whats going on....../rant

OT, my mates PS3 did this last week, took it to the shop and it cost AU$100 to fix, much more affordable then buying a new one
