It happened to me too. It only took about 3 weeks to get it repaired. Send it away.
Well then you sure are a lucky person, my friend sent his away in october and didn't see it again until july.

Well that sucks, guess you should start planning what you are going to do without it.

i have only seen this happen once, this is a problem only with the 60gb models i think. the only way to fix is if the warranty has run out is too take it to a repair shop.

also this is a problem that has only effected 2% of PS3 consoles so this guy is really unlucky.

Basically the PS3 has caught the Xbox's RRoD virus, who let them see each other?! =P
You just wait, the PS3'll give it to the wii and then we'll have a real love triangle issue.
Where do the handhelds fit in?!
They're the love children disregarded as re-iterations of past generation consoles. Won't anybody think of the children?! D:

No, mines a 40gb and the same happened. It's only just over a year old too.

And to all those saying it's a software problem, it's not; my console was running fine, weeks after whenever the last update was, then just stopped.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was devastated when that happened to my PS3.

First try leaving it a couple of days, and replace the power cable (that's what the help line told me to do). If that doesn't work (it didn't for me, but you may get lucky) sony will replace it with a refurbished console for a fee (£145 for me) as it will be out of warrantee. It took 2 working days for mine to arrive, however unless you backed up your HD you'll have lost all your saves etc (trophies and PSN purchases are kept on the PSN so you'll still have them).

The new console will be under warrantee for 3 months so you may want to buy and extended warrantee in case it happens again.

I hope this helped.

My PS3 did this about a month ago. It was running fine and then crashed for no reason. Now everytime I turn it on it blinks yellow then goes back into standby mode. I can't even remove the disk from the drive.

From what I can tell there's no fucking way to sort it other than send it for repair, which means risking losing all my save data on my HD because there's no way to backup the data.

Real pain in the arse.
If you remove the HD and put it into a USB HD caddy you might be able to back it up (The Sony help guy said that to me, but I had a backup from a month previous so I didn't bother).

When I turn my Wii off, it gives a yellow light when it should be red on the POWER button. I think the Wii is the monkey in this situation. As you can see, Xbox has already developed into stage 2: Motion Controls.

This turned from a simple hardware discussion to one about contagious consoles infecting each other after they had... relations...
It better not happen to my PS3. I taught him well, to stay away from those slutty 360s.

thenumberthirteen, your avatar freaked me out when his face started to change as I was typing this response.

My PS3 overheated the other day and now when attempting to power up, a yellow light flashes briefly and then flashes red repeatly. Is there any way to correct this without sending the system away for six+ weeks? It is a 60gig system bought new in Janurary of 07, if that makes a difference. Can anybody help please?
This happend to me to.All you need to do is open it and vaccum all the dust away.should work.

First thing I tried man. Couldn't even read the HD, let alone copy anything. According to Sony, apparantly only one thing in the world can read the HD is that one console. For anything else to read it it must first be formatted, which invariably deletes the data.

Now I'm no tech guy so I have no idea if that's true or utter BS, but that's what Sony said. Oh and in addition to that I was told a lot of developers lock the save files so they can't be copied anyway. Which is fucking retarded, seeing as the last 2 generations of this console allowed you to copy and transfer games saves however the fuck you liked no problem.

It's like they've gone completely backwards this generation.

Hah, shove that in your tailpipe and smoke it, PS3 fanboys. Looks like your console isn't as immune to total hardware failure as you thought. One up for the Xbox 360 guys here!

But seriously, if you want it fixed, send it for repairs. If you still have the warranty within date then it'll be fine. If you don't, get it fixed by a reputable dealer or send it straight to Sony and pay their fees. Tampering with it trying to fix it yourself will only void the warranty and probably cause further problems. Trust me, quick fixes don't work on any console, you need it fixed properly. As a RRoD sufferer with my 360, I know what I'm talking about. It might be an inconvenience, but it'll be better for you and your PS3 in the long run.

That just means it's connected to the Internet. You see, this is because the Wii is technically never off, because it can still receive data via the Internet. But yeah, that's perfectly normal, no Wii-herpes for you. :p
