I'm happy Sony has, with very little effort on their part, won. The sad thing is that they are practically running unopposed, which ALWAYS leads to the best possible outcome right?
While I've enjoyed Sony for many years, before that I was Nintendo only. They have basically been doing their own thing off to the side for a while now, and that particular strategy seems to be petering out for them.
The reason was that they were content to let M$ and Sony fight each other while they put out the occasional goody for their fans to eat up.
Now that M$ has defeated itself, and Sony is doing its little happy dance, I would love nothing more than for Nintendo to NOT have already released the Wii U.
If they had been able to see the shitstorm that M$'s new console has raised, and not already put their newest horse in the race then they could have been in a position to put out something BETTER than PS4. They could have stolen Sony's victory.
It would have been like a sleeping giant awakened from a decade long slumber, ready to crush its enemies and see them driven before them. And hear the lamentations of their shareholders.
Unfortunately, barring an unprecedented pocket full of miracles, they already played their hand, and will have not much at all to impress us this generation.
A new Pokemon, Zelda, and various Mario games. And not much else because 3rd parties have already found the Wii and Wii U to be a waste of time.
Sony Vita will likely steal a large amount of the handheld market, something that Sony has never really had a chance at before. I wonder if they even know what the hell they would do with it once they had it.
The most salient thing to me regarding the Xbone is when your average consumer that hasn't been up on all this nonsense, goes out and buys one for their kids this Holiday. They bring it home to discover that it won't work due to their lack of broadband, they find out they can't trade games with their neighbors or get used games for LESS than new, etc. I can only imagine the outcries from ignorant masses then.
I can see it now, local news having their "holiday buying guide" and telling everyone all of M$'s dirty laundry and either A)Cautioning all consumers to avoid it as its a terrible choice or B) Having to grin and spin this fiasco into a polished turd to entice people to buy one.
Depending on whether or not M$ owns them or is partnered with them, or more likely spends a fortune on brand management and propaganda. That is probably where that extra $100 is going to go towards, paying people to bs us full time in order to get you to bend over and take the Xboner.
