Alright, so my PS4 has thankfully avoided all of the other issues I have heard reported about them, but occasionally, I'd say maybe a third of the times I have turned it on, the sound just doesn't work. Restarting it fixes it but this is still an annoying issue. I am currently at home from college and I'm gonna bring another HDMI cable back with me to see if that's the problem. Until then does anyone have any ideas what kind of an issue this might be? I'm assuming it has something to do with either the HDMI cord, or port on the PS3. Does anyone have any advice about this?

Check some other devices on the same HDMI port on the TV to see if they have any sound issues and try a variety of HDMI cables, if the issue persists or is unique to the PS4 take it back and get a replacement.

Why put up with a faulty device? You paid good money for it don't put up with it.

Yeah, either try a different HDMI cable, or try going through the options for setting up screen and sound. I had to configure it my TV when I nearly had a heart attack when no picture came up. Then I found the "automatic" option, and everything is currently going smoothy in weight gain heaven :)

Yeah, hopefully it's just an issue with the cord and not the actual system. I was just wondering if anyone had previously had this problem and new a fix or at least specifically what the issue was. And I've tried to reformat the sound in settings and it doesn't fix the problem.

Check to make sure it's not an Ethernet HDMI cable. I know that some devices don't care but some are incompatible when they only require a standard HDMI; when in doubt, don't use use Ethernet HDMI.

Alternatively, you may need to connect the digital optical sound cable from your PS4 to your, uh, wherever it's going I guess. The cords are really cheap, I found a six footer on Amazon for like, 5 or 6 dollars:

But just in case, BLINK TWICE IF YOU CAN HEAR THE SOUND OF MY VOICE. YOU MAY, IN FACT, BE DEAF...OR IN SERIOUS NEED OF A Q-TIP OR FOUR.
