Ps4 vs Xbox 720

Well the PS4 presentation turned me off of it pretty quickly, so unless the XBOX is shipped with the blood of a virgin and multiple Justin Bieber CDs we'll be fine.
Or if it had always-on DRM and pre-owned games are banned. That'll be pretty bad too.

From the sound of it, Microsoft is no longer nearly as interested in the console market as they were last generation.

The leaked specs for the "Durango" were weaker than that of the PlayStation 4. And being late to the party is never good for a system. The new XBOX will be coming out after the PlayStation 4, which means Sony has a jump start on the market.

Part of the success of the XBOX 360 and how it was able to break into a market it was new to, was being first to the party and introducing the new generation. No longer having that, it will be an uphill battle for the XBOX Durango.

Furthermore, I fear that this generation the selection of games for the XBOX will be even less varied than the last one. Around the launch of the XBOX 360, Japanese RPG were still one of the most popular genres in the gaming industry. As the PlayStation 2 existed during a Japanese RPG boom. And Microsoft was trying to court companies and get diversity for their platform. Grabbing exclusive titles like Blue Dragon.

Today, I have a hard time imagining the XBOX having much cross cultural pollination and diversity. The XBOX 360 is dead in Japan. And Microsoft will probably give up on that market. Furthermore, as first person shooters have proven to be one of the most popular genres on the system, what will likely come out for the platform are first person shooters.

It might sell, but I don't think it will sell quite as well as the PlayStation 4. It also doesn't sound particularly relevant to me.

There is literally no point in even doing a semi-pointless "Vs" thread unless we can actually compare them in some way. All we have at this point about the Xbox 3218461237846 is rumors and innuendo.

I actually prefer vs. type threads when they're fictional, imaginary and working straight off our dreams, hopes and expectations.

They usually contain less bullshit and more prophetic and self-fulfilling facts that way.

Oh, those are fine. Iron Man vs Batman? Sure, that's awesome. But we already know a lot about those characters - so far this thread is trying to compare apples to another type of fruit that doesn't even exist yet.

But what about Blue Spongehead Psychic from Outer Space vs. Batman? Could that not also be a thing? Image, discover the possibilities? Was Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth not awesome enough to dig up a twenty year old dead thing and infuse it with a new lease on life? Did Grant/Wagner/Bisley not make shit up at virtually every single opportunity they could squeeze out of Judgement on Gotham?

I stick to it. As long as ye Mods don't feel like shutting this thing down, it is a thing of beauty to me.

RE: OT: varia: it's more like a think tank collective effort to bring all the rumours, snippets of truth and a big lump of hopes and dreams together. Much more fun than comparing specification fact sheets and crunching numbers in an ever-escalating fanboi war of the increasingly inappropriate words.

Microsoft intends to do a number of new things, probably farming themselves over in the process. Sony will stick to what worked on the PS3 and update it with more powerful and less crazy hardware, plus social meddling media. In the end, both machines will look infuriatingly similar under their plastic hoods. Microsoft will try to fight this impression with crazy Apple-style polished talk it's so shiny it will make you go blind.

Sony will reduce the crazy.

Every feature Microsoft adds will add a new potential venue for discontent, sadness and rage, which will amuse me to no end. Sony risks disappearing altogether, which would make me very, very sad.

In the end, we'll all be driving Vauxhalls, Opels and Holdens. All the same thing. Hitler's Volkswagen got nothing on GM.

Really we just need to wait for the real information to come. So far only Sony has showed their hand, and they're still remaining fairly tight-lipped about the most pressing issues like how they will handle DRM.

Only because people are assuming they have something to announce about their DRM. They have answered the questions they were asked about it pretty fully and not dropped a no comment or anything. The most likely take away is that they're doing nothing new.

Even without DRM MS are going to have to throw alot of cash to fund non FPS exclusives to get me slightly interested in buying one and given the state of the industry I can't see there been many must play exclusives to the Nextbox

As it is now the facts are that we know pretty much nothing about PS4 and absolutely nothing barring rumours regarding the next Xbox. Now I know most of us have already made up our minds already. Nintendo is going to crash and burn, Microsoft is going to release a shoddy always online console that will cause consumers to rise up and revolt and the PS4 will be a glorious beacon reminding us that there is a god and he loves us.

I am waiting for all of the consoles to be released and probably give them a year when they are actually competing against each other before I make up my mind, but ignore me. I am going to admit that I don't know enough economics to make a decent statement and that I am often wrong when I try to guess.

Based off of the rumors circulating around the Nextbox (The bad ones):

1. WiiU (60-80 Million Units)
2. PS4 (55-75 Million Units)
3. Nextbox (10-30 Million Units)

However, based on a more realistic idea of the Nextbox:

1. WiiU (55-75 Million Units)
2. Nextbox (50-70 Million Units)
3. PS4 (45-65 Million Units)

Those are my official guesses.

We know nothing about the 720 at present, so we have no way of knowing.
Simple pattern recognition favors Microsoft though.
Sony is not in good financial shape, and I'm not sure they can support another console.

Not buying them, that's pretty much that my 2 cents. So far all I've heard is DRM and MAC ID for disc's and that is nothing but a massive turn off.

OT: I can pretty much agree with this ^ guy. If the rumors are true about the new Xbox... Count me out. I have, "All The Things." I might be inclined to buy a PS4 down the road. Maybe even a Wii U. But definetly not a Xbox.

All said and done. I couldn't give a damn about all of the social connectivity crap Microsoft and Sony are going on about. If I can't just put a game in and play. I'll just stick to my PC.

I want the system with the best graphical capabilities. I assume both companies will have plenty of exclusives this time around. Since I don't care about all of the silly features and gimmicks both seem to believe people want in their gaming consoles, my choice will be entirely on which one gives the best visual experience.

My current consoles are very dusty. Probably a fire hazard actually.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy them, but the console market is looking more stale by the day, while my PC get's more colorful by the minute. I don't consider myself an elitist, but right now PC is the cheapest, most diverse, versatile and enjoyable way to game right now.
Things could change. The Commodore 64 was looking pretty strong in '84, but the likelihood of a massive console upheaval in the upcoming generation is very slim in my eyes.

Honestly, I don't fucking care. I have had better experiences through my PS3 compared to my 360.
