Supposedly, the attack is over, but PSN is still down.
What 'attack' and no it isn't; I've had PSN since yesterday and still do. It logged me out once, in the morning, and I simply attributed that to 'the Christmas rush'.

You guys are being trolled and you're falling for it brilliantly.
Words fail me. You're either channeling a B movie from 1990 or haven't a clue how these things work.

I haven't been able to log in for 24 hours. I got on yesterday morning, but since I got home from the Holidays, it's been offline. Even the official site states that PSN is offline. The Playstation Twitter has stated that it is offline. I've read other forums where people have stated what regions are offline.

Your region may be online. But several others aren't. Including mine. Perhaps you're lucky in that regard. Or maybe you're lying to mess with others. I don't know or care.
If the network had been taken down, wouldn't the problem be universal?

And if by 'not knowing how these things work' you're referring to hacking, that's almost literally a complement.

And don't call insinuate that I'm a liar; I haven't spat in your, face today.
No, I'm talking about servers. Those are done by regions. In the cases of large countries, like the US, that can mean several different servers to handle the load of the entire country. Not sure how many servers there are, but I wouldn't be surprised if every stat had at least one. It's also why the PSN Store is different in different areas.

So one server could be down while others operate normally. Though this is affecting large numbers of servers, it's entirely possible that they didn't hit servers in smaller areas and focused on hurting the most people possible by hitting major targets.

This is not really hacking in the traditional sense. They're basically using a program to overload the servers with more requests than they can possibly handle thus effectively shutting them down. Like clogging a drain.

I didn't insinuate you were a liar. I stated that you were either a liar or ignorant. If I seem agitated, it's because this shit is getting old. It was mildly annoying before, but now it's stopped being even slightly funny. The Holidays are over and I was wanting to spend some of my free time playing some games.

It does seem like things are starting to come back up, though. For some odd reason, my app works and I can see that a few of my friends (including one that is a state away) are back online. Hopefully this has been resolved, now.

Another Hacker group called Finest Squad took these idiots on today and managed to stop them. They've also posted the names and addresses of those in Lizard Squad online.

Quite the compelling drama.

Too bad my friend's 8 year old son couldn't set up his new Xbox One though. Shameful act. Literally ruining Christmas.
I think they may be finished. If Finest Squad's information is true and they know exactly where these people are, the FBI will deal with them and, as its a terrorist act they will not care about how old they are...

Worst still for them, some family members have been named as well. One of the "Kids" in the UK has had both his mum and dad named. If word gets around that their son is responsible for this then they will be blamed as well.

Now if there is any false information then this is where there could be problems; people could find their houses attacked because of this. Finest Squad needs to be 100% certain the information is true otherwise they could find themselves under attack as well.

However I also believe that it's in their best interest to make sure the right information is out as they want to fight the good fight and know the consequences for a single mistake.

Still cannot log in to PSN and all I wanted to do was get my Thyrus Nexus on FF14: ARR. These asshats need to be found and arrested. However, I did get Kirby's Triple Deluxe for Christmas and I still haven't beaten Persona Q yet.

I also overheard a couple mechanics as I got my truck inspected that their children got an XBox One and a PS4 and neither could log on to their respective services, set up all they needed to and buy games online. This whole ordeal pisses me off to no fucking end.

But most of them are probably too immature to realize the severity of what they're doing in the eyes of the businessmen running these companies.
I'd argue it's not just the businessmen. It's the families that purchased consoles for their children or for the entire family. It's people in long-distance relationships who use these services to talk to each other and use them to spend time together in the only way they can for the time being (I personally know a couple who do this through XBL while they're currently in two different countries). It's the single parents who scraped together enough money to give their kids what they wanted the most for Christmas.

It's so much more than the businessmen that Lizard Fuckers are fucking with.
And yet the economic consequences of it all are sure as hell what they'd be punished for, stuff like this is expensive to deal with and it's a PR nightmare to have these kinds of outages.

Frankly as a member of the PC master race it doesn't affect me, but it does still irritate me and I can fully sympathise with their frustrations.

I'm with ya, there, Cap. I just wanna get my Gjallarhorn and Hawkmoon upgraded in Destiny. This is infuriating that I'm still just sitting here with no information on when or if this will be fixed anytime, soon.

Just checked playstation.com and it says, at least for my region, that they are STILL undergoing "maintenance". When they will be done with that is anyone's guess, but I'm less than thrilled with this situation.

I guess I'm channeling my inner Vivian James when I say, in an annoyed tone: "Can I just play my games now?"

Still mostly down for me. Can't buy anything though I can upload trophies and view my profile with the social stuff which is being updated even though I can't access it (won't load my trophy list either).

Was going to do some Persona Arena Ultimax online but instead spent my time knocking out some games I've had sitting around for many months. Been knocking my way through Mind Zero for example which was not exactly my finest purchase, really should have stuck to just Demon Gaze. Anyway I beat the game and am now on floor 24 out of 50 of the post game dungeon with my objective tomorrow being floor 36 where the next portal is, really can't stand playing the game for anything more than hour straight honestly.
Blew through Watchdogs last set of missions to grind too which I also did like an hour a day max as I really can't stand it either

Yikes, to think I brought a couple of games and downloaded some of that free indie crap to play... ages back. Got Persona arena Ultimax to do... than Tales of Xilia as I'm trying to give Tales a chance as I've never rated it... than Atelier Escha & Logy... got to do the Muramasa Rebirth DLC too... will properly be around Bloodbourn and Yakuza 5 time once I get through that.

If companies can't guarantee a service, they shouldn't market products that depend on its presence. Not being able to use software I purchased because it requires access to an online service is absolute bullsh!t.

Was going to take advantage of the day off to experiment with a new character build in DA:I, but I guess now I'll just watch The Interview on youtube and knock out a couple of last gen games I never got around to beating.

I would like to see a "gamer strike."

In January, coordinate a one day game buy strike. Nobody buys games on a given day, instead send emails to your favorite or most hated developers saying "We're tired of the abuse. There will be buyer strikes every month until online drm is abolished."

In February, two game buy strike days, same email.

March, four...

April, eight...

etc.
What are you on about? What does Online DRM have to do with this exactly. If you want to play online you have to play online... you need to be online to play online so... yes I am aware always online DRM exists but this is not the problem.
The service is down due to attacks, not because some fabled DRM has gone haywire and is locking people out.

The way this will happen is that from January to May, gamers will buy any games they felt like buying on strike days during non strike days, and ultimately have no effect on the monthly sales figures. From June onwards, when there no more non-strike days left in the month, gamers will just ignore the strike and buy whatever they feel like.

I'm sure you've seen that screengrab with the COD:MW2 boycotters logged in playing it day 1. . .

Well, now whoever is doing this has gotten a good meal out of it and still want more to eat.

Tor is their new target, PSN and XBL still having issues here and there, 'they' got 3000 freebies out of that Dotcom guy, and are basically asking for 3000 whatevers from Tor.

They squeak, cause problems, and get their goodies to 'make it all stop.' Then move to their next extortion target.

Precedence is set now, wonder how much they'll haul off before someone Finally shuts this headache down permanently... until the copycats come out of the basement that is...

Still can't log in. Tried to play single player Call of Duty Advanced War Fighter and it went black anyway. Tried to stop it, power down PS4 and could not. Had to pull the plug as I could hear the disc spinning madly. I hope, when this is over, I can power the thing back up.

For the holiday, I got:

COD Advanced
Dragon Age Inquisition
Far Cry 4
Destiny

And I can't play them. Dang it.

Smash Brothers on Wii U is working. That's something.

You can't play them offline too? Go to your settings under network and uncheck the box. That'll fix the games not starting.

I'll give this a shot with the local single player, assuming I can start the thing back up after pulling the plug when COD choked on me!

Thanks.

Oh good so not only are those chucklefucks at it again but they were REWARDED (or perhaps more accurately bribed) for their actions. Because that won't just give them positive reinforcement and reason to keep pulling this kind of shit again. /sarcasm

The Lizard Squad guys again? Really? At this point I'm not even mad, I'm just exasperated. "Oh dear lord, the rowdy kids from down the street have put a ball through my window for the one hundred and eighty seventh time. Sigh." Why are they doing this? I doubt they are even trolls at this point, because I doubt that enough people are reacting with enough outrage to satisfy them if they were.
Is it multiple choice?

1. Their moms didn't hug them enough
2. They believe they are demonstrating some sort of superiority of some sort
3. Boredom
4. Their uncles told them its ok to touch those special places as long as mom and dad don't know (Im guessing this one)
5. Small genitals
6. Short man syndrome
7. It goes well with hoodies in 100f
8. Small genitals
9. Small genitals
10. Really small genitals

*playing Inquisition* *looks up* Oh, I reconnected. *continues playing*

So did Kim Dotcom offer the free accounts as pittance or as a reward? Either way, seems he fixed the issue, albeit temporarily.

On small genitals, do you think the radiation from spending so much time in fromt of their computers slowly shriveled their manparts until there was nothing left, like perhaps low level microwave emissions or maybe UV/infrared causing a similar reaction? Just a thought.

Nope, because PSN and XBL both work on a CDN-based model.

It's possible to attack individual nodes in the CDN, which will affect certain regions and areas, but won't necessarily affect absolutely everyone.
That might be why I still cannot log in. Rats. Some people seem to be back on but I am not.

Ghad only knows what is going to happen when I turn my PS4 back on after pulling the plug during shut down last night as it would not.

I know it's incredibly petty, but I hope these lizards croak and die. I don't even use PSN or Xbox Live, but the idea that somebody is getting off on doing this makes me wonder just how useful to society they are.
