That's the point I'm trying make; I don't think people buy handhelds for a console experience.Mornelithe said:lol yeah because Apple really knows how to make a console experience on a handheld. Besides, it's not like the PSP even remotely failed. May not be as high as Nintendo's handhelds, but they're still far from paltry.Casual Shinji said:It looks impressive and it certainly has a bag full of nifty tricks, but I don't think Sony is going to get a foothold in the market by creating a console experience on a handheld.
I'm afraid they're going to get left in the dust again by Apple and Nintendo.

I have no doubt the system will eventually have some good games I must play, and I have no doubt I will buy it at some point as I did the PS3. But I still think post-PS2 Sony systems are uninspired drivel that rely entirely on power with no substance outside of that one trait, and this looks to be no exception. They better be thankful for their third-party exclusives.
L1/R1 are on the top. L2/R2 are on the back. I think. Click the "spoiler" button in the OP.tanis1lionheart said:Looks like it's only L1/R2 - I'm mostly nitpicking.Guy Jackson said:I thought that was them on the back?tanis1lionheart said:Damn this thing looks sexy...

ANd thats why they added connectivity for Andriod phones. This means that the PSP2 can play all those mobile games. Don't quote me on this though I read something to this degree somewhere... I'l look for a linkCasual Shinji said:That's the point I'm trying make; I don't think people buy handhelds for a console experience.Mornelithe said:lol yeah because Apple really knows how to make a console experience on a handheld. The reason why Apple and Nintendo are so succesful with their handhelds is not because of triple A bockbusters with high end graphics, but because of simple and addictive pick-up-and-play type games. That's what handhelds are most suited for.
I disagree. Personally I'd love a console in my pocket, but never mind me - look at the App Store! It's been filling up with increasingly console-esque titles for years, and they sell very well.Casual Shinji said:I don't think people buy handhelds for a console experience.
I think that's the stigma that comes with handheld gaming, I used to think that as well before I got my hands on my very own PSP. I think for casuals this is the usual perception of handheld gaming, after all, they don't really want anything too in depth, but for me, once I started playing Socom for example on PSP, joined a clan, got really into the game and started raising stats, you soon realise that gaming on handhelds doesn't JUST have to be pick up and play. To this day, I wouldn't put any casual experience on a handheld above the fun I had playing God of war on PSP or Socom or Monster Hunter, none of which were pick up and play games, but all of which kept me immersed on long journeys. I only wish more thought process was given to the fact that my journeys aren't always going to be long, if there were more save anywhere features, this would be great, luckily PSP had a standby mode.Casual Shinji said:That's the point I'm trying make; I don't think people buy handhelds for a console experience.Mornelithe said:lol yeah because Apple really knows how to make a console experience on a handheld. Thats the first time I've seen the back touchpanel in action, that's pretty sweetIamSofaKingRaw said:Nothing else has touchscreens like this...Thaius said:Wait, the PSP2 has a freaking touch screen? I think there are just L/R buttons, those black "buttons" on the back are just for better grip. But you could utilise the rear touchpad as L2/R2 buttonstanis1lionheart said:I've looked at a few and it looks like the PSP L/R buttons.Guy Jackson said:L1/R1 are on the top. L2/R2 are on the back. But, that could change in the final design or a 3rd party clip on.

You mean the same way they got pwned last generation by the PSP? ;)
It's obvious that price and USP are two deciding factors in who actually ends up on top. Sony's handheld doesn't have a great deal right now in terms of USP, so it'll have to be cheap. If it's packing powerful hardware, expect a price tag of £300. This puppy ain't going nowhere for the first year it releases, bet on it.
