because guns are like a sport something that some people use to unwind and just have some fun with at the range or at hunting

drugs are illegal and those still are easily acquired making guns illegal takes away the citizens guns but not the criminals

Think what you will, but the Constitution was specifically designed to keep retards like you from infringing upon our rights (especially regarded the Second Amendment).
That must have been one of the most rude things anyone has ever said to me on the escapist forums.
I said that Assault rifles and Heavy calibre rifles/shotguns should be forbidden is possession of civilians. I am fine with small guns like 9mm pistols and side-arms.
The Big 2 is pretty general in its meaning, which leaves it pretty wide open for interpretation. Some say that it covers all firearms, where others say it covers most, and even others say only if you intend on forming a well-regulated militia".
Personally, I believe it covers the ownership of all guns, but who seriously needs the latest .50 Cal. Slugthrower? Maybe if you're a big game hunter, but most of the big game you'd need to shoot with a half-inch projectile are protected by conservation acts. Who needs a fully automatic rifle? Nobody, really. I go to gun shoots where there's at least two or three trucks with M134s attached. Necessary? No. Hella fun? Yes. Besides, if you have the money to buy the ammo for an M134, then you're probably not too worried about the cost of the gun. You're also unlikely to conduct a crime with it, as the purchase of those kinds of firearms are strictly regulated.

I don't ever intend on owning anything that fires faster than as fast as I can pull the trigger, nor do I desire to own anything that fires anything bigger than a 1oz. lead slug. The term "assault rifle" is honestly the most irritating thing I've heard when it comes to the gun debate. Any rifle, single fire, wood stock, rapid fire, semi-automatic, low-capacity, high-capacity or of any length, when used to attack someone, is an assault rifle.
Have you ever tried hunting with a Beretta? Have you ever tried clearing a room with bolt-action longrifle? Each weapon has it's own purpose. Restricting ownership to "Only X caliber" or "only Y style" may seem like a good idea, but in the end can be just silly.

Maybe I should get a blunderbuss for home defense, though.

Take away guns and you take away people's ability to arm themselves against the state.
Take away guns and you take away people's ability to FIGHT back.
Take away guns and you can simply swish away those rights of humanity with the back of your hand.

Saying that though.. I live in the UK and i'm quite happy that we don't have guns running AMOK! Guns were only banned in this country because the powerful were scared that weaponary was getting too cheap and therefore the power was no longer quite all theirs. But its not a bad thing that we have strong gun control.

I'm simply stating points.

I love guns and I'm an avid hunter. I for one feel much safer with them in my house. And yeah if someone is willing to commit a gun crime, why wouldn't they be willing to illegaly obtain one in the first place? I can assure you it wouldn't be that hard. They've been legal for a pretty long time.

Guns do not make you more safe, all they do is make it so when something bad happens like a robbery, it will probably end with someone being shot dead, robber or victim. This also means that crimes that do not in anyway deserve death (though I believe that the death penalty is never justified) like a troubled teenager burgling a house for instance could end in his death, the act of killing has been made acceptable, this in itself is disgusting.

So many forget that a gun is before anything else a weapon; if it is used successfully in its primary purpose then someone dies. The right to bear arms causes a vicious circle, lethal weapons are available to everyone so violent crime is increased; to defend themselves from this people need to arm themselves. By making the possession of arms completely illegal gun crime doesn't stop, I am aware that serious criminals will still find a way to get them - we still have some here in England but it decreases gun crime by a huge degree, these crimes become exceptional cases, if a shop were robbed at gunpoint this would attract national news coverage, the risk to the general public is near non-existent, I have never seen an illegal weapon in my life. If you live in an area where you need a gun to defend yourself this is because everyone else has guns.

The argument that people need guns to keep the government in check is laughable; a political system like Americas could never be turned in a dictatorship as it is a democracy divided into states with their own authority. Senators, congressmen and the president all get their power from the people, America would be at no risk of being unable to limit its government?s power without guns, this argument is weaker than one saying we need guns to defend ourselves from the undead.
