Fixed that for you. I have no idea what possessed you to say something "Is" happening when currently there has only been an offer over fucking twitter but if you insist on reporting news, at least TRY to be accurate.
What's worse is that Tim seems to be taking the piss on the whole thing. Naturally he's been inundated with tweets since this came out.

He tweets:
Tim Schafer @TimOfLegend
Man, so many tweets. I assume this is all people asking for codes to Happy Action Theater and Rise of the Martian Bear?
My guess is he's either letting the anticipation build (that bastard) before he sends the world crashing down on us (that royal bastard), or he's waiting to hear back from the bean-counters before going official on anything.
Tim Schafer is probably not going to say anything official until an agreement has been worked out that is satisfactory for both Double Fine and Notch. Not to mention that Double Fine will need to make sure that Notch is willing to spend the funds needed to produce and promote the game. All of this could take anywhere from a few days to months to work out, so an official confirmation today is unlikely.

That said, I do think that Double Fine will probably take this offer, because Tim has stated many times that he would do a Psychonauts 2 if somebody is willing to put forth the money to do it.

Yay!

Lulwhut? I really don't see Mojang making something like Psychonauts 2. It's way too big for them, unless they're teaming up with Double Fine or something. And even then I'm not exactly sure how Mojang is supposed to help them out, unless they're going to be investing money and helping publish.
Its almost as if you read that from the OP!

OT: Never played the first, would be interesting if this works out though.

Digital-only release, a slightly-less-than-retail price, and good word of mouth (and if this happened like this, it'd get a lot of that before its even gone anywhere) and they'd be away.

Now lets just hope it's kept to the typical Psychonauts formula and not try to shoe-horn in too any different mechanics like what they did with Brutal Legends.

If they even decide to go with it.
The problem with Brutal Legend was nothing to do with its gameplay, and everything to do with its advertising.
The Melee / Music stuff? Maybe. The RTS? Hell no, that was as big a deterrent as the advertising. At least for me anyways, that wasn't nearly as fun and just felt bloated, boring and dragged on for far too long.

Last thing I want is a Psychonauts with FPS stuff thrown in for shits and giggles.

Excuse me while I blaspheme: I've never played Psychonauts. I mean to and want to, but I've yet to actually do it. But if it's half as good as everyone says, I'm pretty excited that a sequil will be made.

If they want me to care, they might want to put Psycho 1 on XBLA, y'know.

Never played psychonauts, but I heard it was fantastic. May have to download it from the XBLA along with Beyond Good and Evil if I get the chance to
I believe they had it on there, but when they updated everything on the dashboard Psychonauts (for some retarded reason)was one of the many games that was removed from the game marketplace. I've wanted to get a copy of the game for a while but I didn't think to check the marketplace until it was too late and every time I've checked the local Gamestops I either just miss the last copy in town by a day or find out that the nearest known copy would require me to go way out of my way to get.
I'll look into it whenever I go back home. Were they also putting it on steam?

Hmm it always annoyed me that Psychonauts fans didn't understand it was fantastic because it was unique, sequels usually rot the concept until it isn't fresh and tasty anymore if you'll forgive the awful analogy.

On the other hand, now that it could happen im actually interested! So long as it lives up to its legendary legacy I am happy as anything.

So, small background: Once upon a time, there was a game called Psychonauts and it was made by a man named Tim Shafer, who was already a legend of gaming due to his previous works, which included Grim Fandango and The Secret of Monkey Island.
Psycho what? Grim what? Monkey what?

Seriously, though, I never played any of those.

That said, if Psychonauts is as good as people claim (note: I have no faith in other people's tastes), then this will be interesting.

Except Brutal Legend's stage battles weren't 'thrown in for shits and giggles'. They were the central piece of the game, the part where all the mechanics come together. The rest of the single player was built up to explain the individual components of those battles - the combat, the double teams, the guitar solos, and so on - and how they fit into the battles.

Did they do a good job explaining this ingame? Probably not enormously so, but in my opinion the anti-advertising by EA was a much bigger factor. It not only meant that the game was largely marketed to entirely the wrong crowd, but also that of the people who bought it who DO like the sort of gameplay it offers, many of them ended up thinking of the stage battles as RTS mini-missions rather than the culmination of all the game's mechanics and consequently played them entirely wrong, trying to direct troops from the sky while ignoring all the other stuff, the combat moves and the double teams and so on, which they had available.

So yeah - as I said, the misadvertising was the problem. Not the game itself.

People buy Psychonauts on Steam? Fools. It is DRM free on GOG. If Mojang gave Tim Schafer a decent budget and a reasonable deadline, then handed distribution over to CDProjekt...oh what a world we could live in!

Unfortunately for everybody, Advent Rising was tepid at best and godawful at worst, drew mixed-to-negative reviews and subsequently sank like an anchor, dragging Majesco down with it.
Don't forget Tommy Tallarico made the soundtrack, and people hate that guy. Espesially since he hated Psychonauts because it was too diffrent.

Even if Psychonauts 2 isn't as good as the original, I still think it would be a good game because Tim Schafer really wants to make it. This means that he is passionate about it and that he has ideas for it.

Ideas + Passion + Competent developers = A good game.

I don't believe it. I believe Notch is interested but I don't believe he has the funds to make this happen. Nor do I believe that he is qualified to be the publisher. I've heard about Notch try and fail enough ideas to know that a lot of the time he does something cool and sometimes it blows up in his face. I think this is one of the experiments that he would try and have it later bite him in the ass.
