I say, let's add in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Then we annex Mexico and Canada, and voila - The United States of North America!

My plan, combine South and North Dakota so we still have 50 states and we don't have to change the flag

Fun fact, Britannia didn't include Britain, that was part of their EU. One of 3 superpowers. IIRC, the history was that they didn't lose the 13 colonies in the revolution but lost Britain to an invasion by Napoleon, thus why the imperial capital was in America.

Isn't that basically a state already? They don't get to vote but they even partake in the pre-elections. So basically... not much would change really.

They also don't pay taxes to the national government.

In addition, they don't get a lot of benefits that people from the states get.

I for one say that they should join. We'll see what happens.

Not likely. North Dakota currently has one of, if not the best economy in the nation right now, and a shitton of oil, and I highly doubt they'd be willing to share right now.

I know a lot of Puerto Rican friends are actually not happy about it. One basically got so passionate she slipped back into spanish for a few minutes basically(from what I could understand) half jokingly saying Puerto Ricans will never be like "gringos" and that they should stand on their own without assimilation into American culture, because that is what she thinks will happen. That and Americans will probably abuse Puerto Rico in ways she could not think of.

She is very nationalistic, and while she likes the states she and many of others view themselves and will always view themselves as Puerto Rican

My god, that is the exact plan I came up with in class today!

Seriously though, I'd love to see a 51st state. Territories always seemed a strange thing for a 21st Century nation to have to me anyway.

With all of this talk about combining the two Dakotas it makes me wonder...why Dakota? I understand why nobody wants to join West and Proper Virginia (ie: Virginia is somehow already too damn big) but why not combine North and South Carolina?

I've been to Puerto Rico once and it was very much like one of the mainland states already. Granted, I've only spent about a quarter of a day there and didn't get to see the entire place. Can't wait to see what becomes of this! Hopefully they make it in.
