We're going to come to a point where we can't tell one comic book superhero TV show from another. And that's fine. The quicker this whole thing peaks the better.
I don't understand this perspective. I really don't.
Did we have trouble telling slasher flicks apart in the 90s? Did we not know which movies were Jason Vorhees murder-romps and which were Fred Krueger flicks?

Maybe I should've gone with "super-powered comic book badass vigilante"? By your retort, the only thing that tells one character from the other is their gimmick and the color of their suit.
And their names. And the actor playing them. And their manner of speech. And physical appearance. And intro sequence.

Or their motivation, personality, rouges gallery, what genre they explore, their history, and their themes.

Actually I did. Though only recently I saw a few of those movies.

All shades of the same grey. Kind of how every sitcom is basically same situation, same comedy. You have one that's really good and the rest are derivative at best.

That argument works against your position though. It's a pretty large claim to state that something like DareDevil and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are in any way tangibly connected outside of being in the same setting. One is a science fiction espionage thriller and the other is a gritty crime drama. Had it not been for the names and a few subtle references no one would making claims they are in any way the same, and that statement holds true for Jessica Jones. And that's not even getting started on the movies, where even most critics have finally acknowledged at this point that had most of the MCU's movies not come from Marvel no one would be claiming they're superhero movies.

Sweet, I love the actor they have playing him, and he was one of my favorite characters from Walking Dead. He seriously got a bad rap on that show. But that's another issue.

But yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Punisher, but I'd be interested in a series with him as the main character with that actor in it. Consider me optimistically interested.

Actually, if you had asked me which one was Mike Meyers and which was Jason Voorhies out of the Halloween/Friday 13th, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell you which was which back in the day. Freddy Krueger was easy to tell apart for me, simply because his look was distinctly different from the other two. 2 big, silent, masked, slow plodding serial killers. 1 guy with a fedora, knives for fingers, a FACE WE CAN ACTUALLY SEE, and dialogue. Pretty easy to tell him apart from the herd. The other 2, pretty interchangeable for me personally. xD

Man, people really didn't respond well to this post.

To be fair, comic book TV shows and movies have been around longer than you and I have been alive. Sure, they exist in much larger numbers now, but even in the 90's there was at least one comic book-inspired movie a year. Sometimes two or three.

I think Marvel may be aware of how over-saturated the market has become and they are starting to focus more on non-super hero content. Or at least, not typical super hero content. Jessica Jones, Punisher and even Dr. Strange are very different animals, so much so that I have a hard time labeling them as "super heroes".

Even as a long time comic fan I agree with you that there's simply way too much super hero stuff out there these days. I'd like to see a lot more no-super hero comics adapted into film and TV (which we're seeing more and more of, thankfully).

As long as it is as brutal and uncompromising as the character, I'm in. That said I'd be happy with Thomas Jane returning to the Punisher role if this is anything to go by:

God I love that short...I really hope he gets at least some kind of role on this new series, guy may have had one of the less praised Marvel films, but he did do alot of good with giving the Punisher a bit more humanity than alot of the comics around the time.

Also, hopefully they'll get the main character writer of Daredevil instead of Jessica Jones for this one. It'd be a shame to have a character that has more than a bit of depth be the least intriguing character in every scene while taking up so much of the time of each episode again...
I'm sorry, did you miss all of the scenes where DD had to act against Kingpin or Foggy?
They acted circles around the guy.

Hmmm, came into the thread hoping it'd be Thomas Jane since he did a real good job with the movie. I'll give the new guy a chance though.
Personally, I was hoping for Dolph Lund...

Oh come on, admit it. The only reason you want him is to get another nekked butt shot of him sitting lotus style in a sewer. You dirty person you!!

Considering that actor is currently starring on a regular scifi show called The Expanse, I doubt he will have the time. If you like that actor though, you should check out the show, he's really damn good in it.

When did I say anything about them? I was solely comparing main character to main character, where DD is wiping the floor with Jessica simply by default.

I would kill for a Saga or Deadly Class show

Saga might actually be better animated unless it had a fatass budget.

I actually made a thread where TV in the US should focus on animation since its more cost effective.

Actually the current ones are pretty diverse and I like how they're willing to take on all the grittier heroes instead of those you'd normally expect.

as long as they keep it unique we're in for a great ride.

That would be great, but it's not going to happen, given the prevalent opinion in the US about what animation is, namely nothing but "kids stuff". Which is of course shit but, hey that's what most people here think.

As the saying goes, "Don't dislike what I like, because I don't like a dislike".
You'd think from most reactions that I'm storming the Marvel headquarters with a crank gun.

If you just said "I don't like superheroes and I hope this genre peaks" no one would say anything to you but when you said "Its going to be when people can't tell the difference between the same shows anymore" which I and many other told you the difference between the shows besides their gimmicks and costumes and you act like we attacked you.
