For the longest time, I thought Bangaa were actually more mammalian than reptilian. Blame the cartoony portraits in FF:TA!

They still look cute, though. :3

Okay; I think I understand these two now. D'khen can stay as a Miqo'te; like I said, I haven't played much of XI or XIV and my understanding of their lore is not even minimal.

Let me rephrase: I meant that it doesn't becomes a second job for you. I don't want you to feel stressed with posting on the RP. My apologies for this misunderstanding.

On a slight tangent, I'm surprised with the lack of black mages in the pool; as a reminder the restriction was on the Black Mage race from IX, not on the class itself. If anyone has a black mage, I'd welcome the app.

Sooooo, my character's in an okay spot right now? I'm fine with the changes, really, didn't mess with the core idea of the character too much. It might be a bit harder to play someone on the edge rather than someone off of it, but hey, no time like the present to practice, eh?

OOOOH! No no, don't worry, it'll be a pleasure to see the rp whenever it comes up! I'm still in school anyway, so I've not got a lot of important things to do, so don't worry about it being difficult for me! I'm more concerned if everything is okay for you! After all, since you're the OP, it's of utmost importance you're feeling well to continue the rp when you see fit in order to drive as strong of a narrative as possible! x3 so yeah, like my capatcha just said

"Happy trails!"

Welcome back to the game! I gotta say this is a very complex character you have in terms of personality, but I know you're capable of pulling this off. The backstory works though I raise a few questions on Lilliene's personal history. How did she learn the jutsus? Who taught her how to use them? The way you mention her being the last of her line is she an orphan? And if that's the case, what happened? And judging by the personality you've set forward, does she suffer from some kind of amnesia?

These questions are kinda formed around how little I know of her, beyond her lineage. If all this is part of developing Lilliene over the course of the RP, I can understand if you don't want to answer them - I'm guilty of that as well. But stretching out her personal history wouldn't hurt you.
I think I might have been overly vague. Basically it's less that she's an orphan or amnesiac and more that her people have been driven into a cultural extinction while their own xenophobia results in a literal extinction. Her limited knowledge of both the Honor Code and the ninja techniques is due to this, the knowledge itself having been lost over the centuries. She isn't an orphan, but she's an only child and breeding outside of their own people is a huge cultural taboo, and hardly any of her people live in Halvor.

I'm going to look over my sheet and see if I can't clarify some of that.

I could always switch a profession to make it more interesting. I was filling what I assumed was an open niche. Besides, older folk typically delve into magic (even Bangaa, sometimes). I'd be willing to flip to spice it up a bit!

Just let me know if you're willing to let a Bangaa go black magic.

Nah, you're fine. I just recalled how there were multiple entries for black mages in the previous two RP's and I figured there would be an influx of people wanting to play as one. I'm honestly surprised but it's not really necessary; that and I had edited the OP to reiterate the restriction when I had been vague about it.

If worse comes to worse and nobody puts forward a black mage, I'll whip up a guest character to fill that hole. Or just call the black mage class a miss and bring a couple more people in to replace that niche.

Thank you for your feedback. The genericness was somewhat intended. As I am not very well accustomed to Forum Roleplaying, I decided to go for something relatively normal. Still, I could always tweak his character if you would like.

If this is your first time, then don't sweat it. There's nothing horribly wrong with your character that needs addressing, and in this case a normal character is preferable than an outrageous one.

I'll give this one and a half more days, but after that I'll close the apps, pick our party and kick off the RP.

Is Gerhard still welcome?

Name: Gerhard
Age: 37
Gender: Male

Race: Clavat

Class: Black Mage

Weapons and Armor: Gerhard carries an enchanted short sword with a dull grey appearance and a runed hilt. Stolen from his father during his escape from his homeland, it is distinctively different in style to the swords smithed in Halvor. Its runes occasionally flare up in the heat of battle to inflict the Blind status on those it strikes but Gerhard's magical experience is too limited for him to improve the old charms himself. He disregards armor entirely, preferring the traditional Black Mage garb of blue robes, brown boots and conical leather hat.

Magic: Fire, Thunder, Silence.

Summon: Sylph

Appearance: Having inherited the robes during his on the job training as a Black Mage aboard merchant ships, his face is continually obscured by the magic generated passively by his own body. The robes are faded significantly and the hat is beaten badly as is typical for a mercenary Black Mage on the oceanic trade lanes. As Gerhard's station would always be on deck during the night hours, his clothes still smell of the violent sea storms he endured while standing on duty.

Personality: Bitter, sour and cynical; Gerhard had taken a lot of abuse while at sea when he was younger and it has caught up with him. While he isn't truly hostile to those meaning well, he can be hard to converse with and enjoys pointing out others mistakes. He is at unease when asked about his past and prefers to rather tackle the next problem than stand around and talk about it.

Inventory: 3 Echo Screen pills, 2 Antidote, 3 potions, 1 golden necklace with emerald pendant.

Backstory: Gerhard was born in the city of Durakia while his parents were on a magical pilgrimage. Making many friends, he fell completely in love with the city and the surrounding lands. When his father moved the family back across the sea to their ancestral homeland, he was heartbroken. After 3 rebellious years at home, Gerhard left his home country at the age of 15. Boarding a ship to Halvor after stealing his father's sword, he was certain he'd find adventure in the country he once knew as home. Things turned out differently than expected when he landed in Byron to find out he was adrift in a city far away from the rest of civilization. As he pondered his fate, he was press ganged one night into a ship's crew as a cabin boy. There he was discovered by the ship's resident Black Mage to be full of potential and, after taking the necessary oaths, began his apprenticeship.

After ten years of following his master Calamai from ship to ship, he earned his own robes and began to work alone as a mage on deck. During the many voyages and many ships, he met a White Mage by the name of Jaina with whom he grew attached. Together they served on a great ship named the Halygast, serving with its guards in the constant war against sea monsters and pirates. Eventually Gerhard saved enough gil to purchase a beautiful necklace for Jaina and surprised her with it. After some further voyages, he proposed. They were to marry when they next landed in Byron but a gigantic serpent struck the Halygast. The combined efforts of the crew and Gerhard vanquished the sea monstrosity but not before it had devoured a third of those aboard and his precious Jaina. When the ship limped into harbor Gerhard switched vessels and continued on alone. He began drowning his sorrows below deck during the day and standing atop at night.

Jaina's death brought out the worst of Gerhard and during his last years serving the merchantmen he was universally regarded as the most unpleasant mage to hire for a guard. In fact, when he turned 35 he was nearly blacklisted, staying in the city a full year before finding another job. He had ceased to seek out further magical learning and was simply living day by day, still carrying the necklace as his only sole reminder of happiness. When the King's men came to Byron, the townsfolk all suggested Gerhard in an effort to rid themselves of the morose and cynical drunkard. To their surprise, he accepted the request and, for the first time, set out beyond Byron and into the land of Halvor. While no longer the optimistic youth who had stowed aboard a ship decades earlier, the chance to have a real adventure was too good for him to pass up.

Other: His eating habits and sense of hygiene come from a life aboard ships of rough sailing men. He smells.

School has started again for me but I did notice this floating around tonight when I took a casual glance at my bookmark for Protectors. I would very much like to continue where Gerhard left off.

Edit: Minor spell/summon edits have been made.

Fascinating looking RP. I'd love to be considered. I wrote up everything for a character I'd like to add except the backstory but I can have that up tomorrow with relative ease if I have that much time before it starts, (one can only hope).

Let me know what you think of the character.

Name: Perseverance (Percy)
Age: 54
Gender: Male

Race: Hume
Class: White Mage

Magic: Cure, Raise, Shell

Appearance: Perseverance is gaunt, starved and miserable. You can see it on his face. His olive complexion is a canvass of dour wrinkles that would suit any grandfather though Percy has no children of his own. He stands at average height when hunched forward as is his custom and he moves with stunning frailty, or the appearance of stunning frailty as he has not been seen to fall or have excessive trouble with difficult terrain. His physical build would be kindly described, ?limber? and unkindly, ?old and hungry.? The spaces between his ribs, for example, are quickly visible and mildly concerning; the joints in his arms and hands are noticeably thicker than the digits they connect. Despite this, he might be called well-preserved physically if strangers were only correct in assuming an additional twenty years on his age. He holds himself stiffly and moves slowly and is often justifiably mistaken for a senior. His once vibrant green eyes are now green-tinted clouds and his once dark hair has turned a very unattractive shade of mud grey escaping in wisps off the curve of his jaw like so many thin cobwebs. Percy dresses in the white robes of his order, he owns exactly one pair of these such robes. Once upon a time it was satin and pure but now the hemming is lost and the filigree appears burnt away; yellowing seizes the robe beneath the knees and past the elbow of the sleeves, sand-stains? And most disturbing there is a discoloration running down the entire back from the shoulders and collar to the final folds of a color deeply reminiscent of blood. He keeps his robes closed with a grey linen band wrapped about the waste.

Personality: If Perseverance were literature his novel would be musty, the kind of old tome whose pages can barely be turned without damaging the volume. Perseverance evades discussing himself and his own story, he is loathe even to discuss issues of personal preference; he retains deep reservations against being the subject of his own conversation equating such a practice to pride, a deeply unholy concept. He has in the past under duress admitted to being fond of both silence and high-up places and it is not uncommon for him to request vinegar on his food. It is more common to see him fasting however as he engages in this ritual incessantly in accordance with multiple esoteric dogmas on a schedule that is difficult to fully explain. Perseverance can also commonly be found meditating and reading strange religious scrolls from cultures long dead. He finds solace in incense but otherwise avoids smoke as he avoids all liquors and most luxuries.
Percy is quiet and reserved at all times, with or without people around. He strives to be helpful and much prefers to be set at the task of assisting someone else than to be accountable for his own time. He has a humble and gracious demeanor that is made only mildly unnerving by his air of chilling melancholy. He carries himself like a man who is grieving. Despite this and perhaps a hint of madness, or those blood(?) stained robes, Perseverance?s intentions seem genuinely good. He strives constantly to conduct himself righteously and piously, he lives strictly to follow the positive pull of his moral compass. Unfortunately he does not fully understand morality and the holes in his knowledge scare and frustrate him. Sometimes he breaks into fits much like anxiety attacks in the face of genuine moral quandary. He finds these desperately embarrassing.

Inventory: Perseverance has a palm-full of gil tucked into a pouch made out of fern leaves that he keeps in his left shoe. His shoes are a possession of his, worn leather slips with forlorn weathered soles. His staff is of a dark wood, (peculiar for the White Mages sect but not entirely unheard of) smooth and thin like a leaden rod up its entire length until the very top, cresting the shoulders, bursts into a nearly perfect sphere of splinters and jagged wood hanging lop-sided and meek off the side. It looks much as though someone tried to make a morning star into a hammer and ended up with a dark and unwieldy blight on a stick. He has two small canteens on his person, one for water and one for holy water. The water canteen holds about two days of reserve. His holy water canteen holds about two uses of the item. He carries bandages which in very hot conditions he will wrap around his face covering it entirely retreating from the sun.

Backstory: Ersyr is a tragedy and that can never be unmade. The city grows intricate marble cathedrals from its every nook and covered crag and riven stone paths lace like sinews holding shattered bones together. It was once a very holy place. Today, few living would know it?s cavernous halls. They might know ?The Necrohol?, but they had never seen the stained glass windows vast like the sky, never hid inside a bell tower and watched a pale moon rise over pale masses, shambling masses. Other hadn?t survived Ersyr. Perseverance did.

His parents, accomplished White Mages in their own right assisting the knights of Ersyr in their fight against the undead who now rose from their graves were never given the opportunity to rise from their own. Neither were his elder or little sister afforded the dignity. His father turned in a solarium, his mother was taken away by four of them, a much kinder fate than his elder sister?s who was eaten within earshot. He lost his younger sister, never saw what happened. He knew the struggle was failing when they kept moving further into and up the ancient marble keeps but he was still only a child when the final fortification broke. Ersyr was truly lost long before then of course but the sounds of the doors breaking were the last splutters of a suffocating dream, that the town could ever be rebuilt. Ersyr saw the departure of its last troupe of refugee?s that night. Percy was among them.

He spent his time after that in the church, a quiet somewhat scarred child seeking the strength to overcome death and the dead. He studied the arts of his parents and the words of ancient holymen and found some minor comfort in ascetic and stoic lifestyles. These principles would constitute an incredible portion of the rest of his life, mostly spent in meditation and in faithful service to as many gods as were offering wisdom for the poor man?s damaged psyche. On his fortieth birthday he decided quit the chapel. He was compelled to take up the white mage?s robes and seek evils to vanquish in the world just the way his parents had so long ago. He wandered alone for a number of years, genuinely alone. He?s not sure to which parts of the world he walked because he did not meet a soul. These are the years Percy most loathes to speak of, suffice it to say that at its conclusion he was conscripted by the Empire and worked for a number of years under their employ in the normal capacity of his class.

Welcome back! It's good to see another returning character, especially a returning black mage. However, I must inform you that I've changed magic to an extent; you're only allowed to have three spells, and one Esper if you trade away one of your spells. Apart from that, everything looks good.

As fascinating as this character is, I'd still need a backstory for Percy. And quickly.

Made an edit, I hope that brings it up to speed. In the transition between RP's his head suffered a nasty shock and he lost the ability to summon Ifrit and his Blizzard magic.

Will the arsenal of magical abilities be expanded as the RP progresses? I feel as if Gerhard is losing some potency for a character who can't hold his own physically.

He will be getting spells and summons over the course of the RP, as will the other magic users. I guarantee you this.

EDIT: It may be a good idea to PM me your skype username so we can chat about the changes.

I have added a backstory section. I believe it covers all of the major points but it's a little hastily produced. Let me know if you have any question.

Name: Mauricio Altavento
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Race: Burmecian
Class: Dragoon
Magic: Aero.

Appearance:

As per tradition with dragoons, the armour he wears is laden with draconic imagery, the helmet is shaped like a dragon?s head, the face of the person wearing it seen below the snout of the dragon while the bevor makes up the rest of the lower jaw. The visor can be lowered, completely obscuring the face but protecting it as well. The cuirass is thick, like a turtle?s shell, and so are the pauldrons. But both are plain, without decoration apart from the Arnetis coat of arms emblazoned on the cuirass. A plate-and-leather skirt extends down from the waist, specifically from the flauds, to about an inch above the knees. A short cape can be seen next to the mail skirt. Chainmail is worn on the forearm, imitating the scales of dragons, but near the elbow, ornate plate is worn and stops at the wrist. Frilled greaves encase the legs. As for the spear, it is thin and light with a wicked pointed end that glints in the light, perfect for impaling. Though it is not without is flourishes, a pennon can be seen near the blade.

Apart from the armour, with him being a Burmecian, Mauricio is covered in short grey fur, has rodent-like a rat-like appearance, digigrade legs, clawed hands and a tail with a ribbon tied to it as per tradition. Mauricio can be described as tall and lanky for a Burmecian with dull shaggy grey fur that is the norm for his race and shoulder-length blonde hair that is often tied back in order to kept it out of the way than any actual preference. When not in his armour, he tends to wear simple loose-fitting clothes with brown hose-like trousers. He outrights refuses to wear shoes of any sort and is regularly sent barefoot, as Mauricio finds shoes uncomfortable since shoemakers have yet to make shoes tailored for Burmecian feet, not to mention all the years he has spent barefoot - he is simply too used to it. A cheeky smile can often be seen on his face, ready for adventure.

Personality: While others would call it recklessness, Mauricio is courageous to a fault and often charges into dangerous situations where he can only rely on his wits and agility to survive. Mauricio's confidence in his abilities is the main aspect of his personality, but he is willing to admit his own mistakes, but most of the time will blame it on something or someone else. He is an introvert, often shying away from social situations mainly because due to his roots as a street urchin, he feels somewhat below the other people around him. This also is the cause of his constant need to prove himself to others, that Mauricio is not just some filth off the streets. However, Mauricio will gladly welcome any who accept him and his flaws as a friend and is not without a heart, in contrast to the serious and determined demeanour he puts on in front of others. However, Mauricio does have his anger issues and will not hesitate to beat up anyone who dares to call him a ?simple street rat? or other such slurs.

Inventory: A meager amount of gil in a small pouch which is usually kept somewhere hidden among his person, such as in the pockets sewn on the inside of the clothes, as he knows all too well about pickpockets and such. He has two Potions, one vial of Eye Drops and an Antidote stashed in pouch made of rough cloth. Also, his father?s medal, which he keeps as a memento.

Backstory: His parents were originally from another country, outside of Halvor, but emigrated to Halvor in hope of better prospects as his mother was expecting and settled in the town of Byron. His father quickly secured a job in the Royal Navy, fighting off smugglers and pirates while earning enough to make sure that his pregnant wife ate enough for herself and her baby. All was well, but the birth was a difficult one and she died in the process. Nevertheless, she had given her husband a healthy son whom he named Mauricio. In the first few years, his father wrestled as much free time from his job as he could, putting him at odds with the higher ups in the Royal Navy. Nevertheless, as Mauricio grew older and more independence, his father was called back to serve many a time, leaving Mauricio in the care of a kindly old Moogle next door - Molulu. However, Molulu was far from an ideal guardian and just often led Mauricio run wild.

On one such incident, it was a stormy night. Molulu had just gotten word about Mauricio?s father from a courier from the Royal Navy, that he had died in the very same storm while fighting a pirate frigate and was handed a letter of condolence sealed with the royal seal alongside a medal in reward for the service and deeds Mauricio?s father had done while in the Royal Navy. Naturally, as the rain was pouring down, Molulu broke the news to Mauricio and presented the letter and medal. Immediately, Mauricio ran to the port and began to wade in the sea, desperately calling for his father. Molulu thought the kid would be fine, apart from some sniffles afterward and went back to tendering the fire. That was far from the truth and Mauricio nearly drowned were it not for a nearby guard who was patrolling that night. She dived in, saved him, asked who his parents/guardians were and brought him back to Molulu?s shack.

The guard also had a heated discussion with Molulu and her apathetic care of Mauricio. Nothing happened because of that, apart from a warning of persecution if that ever happened again. Mauricio quickly grew afraid of the water afterwards and begged Molulu to move to a more inland city. Molulu refused, so Mauricio decided to bide his time and began collecting his belongings together in a small pack. Two years later, at the young age of thirteen, he ran away and wandered around Halvor for a bit then ended in the city of Lumalna. There, he quickly fell in with the street gangs that hounded its citizens. However, when asked to kill, or ?eliminate? a rival he refused, making himself a wanted person. Fortunately, Lady Luck was on his side and after about a year and a half of hiding in the shadows. He found a home for himself. A married couple let him stay in the spare room of their house, unofficially adopting him.

Nevertheless, two years passed and Mauricio missed the thrill of messing around with the street gangs. Helping with the chores in return for a bed and a decent meal was all well and good. But... it was boring. Mauricio wanted to make something of himself. At sixteen, he packed up his bags again, said goodbye to the couple, and moved to Arnetis but found he was not fit to become a knight, or even a ranger. As well as being hilariously bad with a sword and a bow, he didn?t enjoy it, nor the looks that he got from his peers. They made fun of him as he failed to land a swing or miss a target. One instructor had taken note of his agility and recommended to train as a dragoon. Mauricio headed his advice and after years of training, he became a full-fledged dragoon. He was put forward as part of King Theodric?s plans and now finds himself this mess.

Might as well throw this in.
