Let me start off by saying that i'm starting to hate this whole Directx thing. The main reason is because i can't tell what version i have and i can never find driver updates for it! I can so more but i don't think I will.

So i'd like to know if there's a way that i can check and make sure i am up to date with it, or better yet, if someone could link me to a download for the latest driver(?)/version.

P.S. I'm running vista so i should have it already but im just so pissed off at microsoft for not making the whole system more easily managable.

thanks, feel free to rant about your Directx experiences as well.

DirectX isn't really a driver; those come from your video card manufacturer. Most of the time, games are packaged with an update checker that looks online and ensures your version of DirectX is the most recent (even if it's more recent than the one the game used).

This should update DirectX to the most recent version.

I'd just like to note for most people it's usually seamless, and there aren't many problems most of the time even if your version is a little out of date. Are you actually getting errors with a specific game?

Not really, but when i try to run Far Cry 2 with it enabled the framerate goes to hell, even if all of the other graphical settings are on their lowest. That may just be that my graphics card isn't up to the task, or there may just be a problem with the game.

...I'm pretty sure it's not possible to run Farcry 2, or most PC games, with DirectX 'disabled'. It'd be kinda like driving a car without wheels.

From what I've heard, FarCry 2 DirectX 10 tests on quite a few cards increases framerates, but it's possible you're getting the short end. Most games have higher framerate in DirectX9.

yeah, I switched back to Dx9 and it works wonderfully. Not quite as good looking as with Dx10, but it'll have to do. Thanks!

This is why I play on a console these days. I gave up on PCs a long time ago when I could never get anything to run! Bought a mac so I can play Diablo3 if it's ever released, and xbox/PS3 can handle the rest.
