So by that reasoning, i believe that to truly defeat Twilight, we must round up and exterminate teenage girls.... wait...
There has to be another way!
Can't we just introduce them to, you know, good books instead?
I suggest Lovecraft. If they're going to read about something supernatural, you might as well chuck 'em in the deep end.

As far as I know.. it is the vampire-horror-thing without the fun that vampires are (explodes when exposed to sunlight etc.).

What's more romantic than a 100+ year old vampire pedophilically loving a 16 year old girl?
Yup, whatever age the actor is, its definately pedo play lol
Bella - "I want you to turn me into a vampire so I can be with you forever."

Because we all know who our true love is at 16 and are ready to start a committed relationship based on a guy who basically stared at you for 1/2 of the book.

Just watch "Let The Right One In".

Very interesting movie, and actually leaves you asking yourself questions out of genuine curiosity.

In defence of that, sixteen year olds of both sexes have said and done dumber things before now

It's pseudo-porn for teenage girls. Edward loves Bella forever but doesn't want the punani (Remember, the author is a Mormon).

I've never seen it that way before... wow thats creepy, kinda makes it sound like Edward is a dirty old man lol.

Glowing is just replacing the usual, burning,skin-melting effect sunlight usually has to make the book more tween friendly.

Well Twilight stopped my lurking ways and forced me to come out in the open. So, let's get started on this rant.

On the subject of whether it's acceptable to change established mythos, I would say it is perfectly fine to change them to better suit your ideas. However, Meyer went beyond that point. She completely and utterly destroyed the vampire folklore from it's very root. Let's take a closer look at the meaning of "Children of the Night", and what that represents. Usually, night is the time when strange things start happening. It is a well known artistic motif. At night, the supernatural takes center stage, uncertainty replaces the certainty, a completely different world shows itself, with rules that are fundamentally different from our own. Vampires are supernatural creatures belonging to this world and not being able to walk in the daylight pretty much emphasizes this aspect.

And Stephanie Meyer took all the mystery behind vampires and burned it entirely. I'm going to put a small spoiler warning here, because I will be referring to the last book in the series, "New Dawn". Vampires walk in daylight, they go to school, there is a half-assed scientific explanation to their origin, they have their own government (yay, politics!) and to top things off, Edward and Bella have a child together. To quote the fat guy on Two Stupid dogs: Ain't that cute...BUT IT'S WROOOONG!!! To bottom-line it, Meyer took all the interesting parts about vampires and turned them into a big, nasty wet-dream.

I asked my little sister about the Twiligth book series, and when I asked about the whole glowing buissnies when vampires are exposed to light, because I thought it sounded kind of stupid, if it was only that. Apparently it is only that though, so now I'm a bit confused.

What's so bad about glowing? Just come up with some reason why, or just pretend to be offended about the questions. At the most desperate situation, put on a costume and call yourself 'glowing man' or something. Seriusly, that glowing stuff really bugs me.

Edit: it seems people got the wrong idea when I said "What's so bad about glowing?" What I ment was: What is so bad for the vampire if he/she glows? Because I didn't get what the 'horrifying' effect was that the vampires usually get from the sunlight.
I dont want to sift through 3 pages of twilight bashing to see if anyone actually answered your question. The whole sparlking thing was bad for the vampire because it meant that they couldnt go mingle with normal humans in sunlight without people noticing so it was really just a pain in the neck to the vampires who didnt feed on humans

Yea Twilight pretty much ruined all the myths about vampires. And it sucks, but there's no sense in complaining about it...in space, nobody can hear you scream.

Can ash crumble? I mean, isn't a defining quality of ash being that it's not exactly solid?
It breaks down into individual atoms, that's how much vampires crumble in sunlight.

Vampires don't sparkle. Stephanie Meyer either failed to research vampire lore, made up lore for herself, or both.
Just thinking out loud here, but isn't making stuff up, y'know, the entire point of writing FICTION?

So if it's fan fiction, you obviously don't agree with Cid's idea that she made it up on her own.

So I'm gonna be completely honest with all of you, I think it's totally hilarious that even though all of you seem to think twilight is so insignificant, you're spending time out of your no doubt very busy day to point out just how insignificant it is. By talking about how terrible it is and how much you want the series to die, you're just bringing it to the attention of more people and prolonging the life of the fad. Most of the people I know who read twilight did so because they saw a forum thread like this and wanted to know why everyone was making such a big deal out of it.

Oh, and before you call me a hypocrite for posting in a thread I so obviously want to die, I don't want to die, watching the irony of these one-sided flame wars unfold amuses me.
