isn't link a lefty? so does that freak out you righties?
Apprently not anymore.

That just looks wrong...
*edit* just realized, the bad guy in that picture is still lefty...
Hasn't the left-handed community had enough bad press?
The Romans called us Sinister, as recent as 50 years ago, students were hit with rulers because they insisted on drawing with their left hand in kindergarten...
And now? apparently only bad guys in the zelda universe are left-handed!

When it comes to melee combat games, there should ALWAYS be a left-handed option.

I've been fencing since a kid and us left-handers have a natural advantage since people are so used to fencing right-handers (so pit two left-handers against each other and, yeah, hilarity ensues). It's not uncommon for 8 or so of the top 10 positions in a competition to be held be left-handers; it's that much of an advantage.

While I don't advocate translating this advantage into a bias mechanic in games, the 'cosmetic' option of would certainly add character - even if only to emulate the cunning Clan Kerr [//www.thejanuarist.com/clan-kerr-and-the-legend-of-the-spiral-staircase/].
Wow, That artical... Was intresting... Thanks for shareing I had no idea about that before now.
There's plenty of historical tidbits out there when you start to look. Gladiators famed for being left-handed or Spanish barbarian princes who cut off their own right hands to avoid Roman military service only to be taught to fight left-handed instead. The biblical book of Judges makes reference to a crack unit of 700 left-handed slingsmen (20:16) and, although dubious as immaculate evidence, the "Book of Jossipon" (10th century) makes the claim that Alexander the Great of Macedon was also left-handed.

Sinister is sinister, after all.

lol thanks... that rant was mostly a joke(in that I wasn't upset but the examples were real)... I've never experienced prejudice for my left handed-ness

I know a left-handed gamer and I don't think it a matters much to him. I do know that he wants to see more left-handed heroes though, like Link for example (when they aren't inverting the universe for righties).

I barely care what the guy on teh screen is doing, but I think I might actually be better at a game with a reverse controller (i.e. playing reverse controls on Halo eventually I was better, but since the entire controller wasn't reversed, jumping while moving became incredibly hard)

I'm left handed and unless its some sort of motion control thing I'm not really bothered whether its left or right handed

I don't see how it makes a difference in any way. No matter what hand the character uses for his sword and which for his shield, I'm still just sat there pressing buttons.

Seriously, this is a total non-issue for me.

Right hander here but I honestly have never even noticed or cared whats in what hand...
Anyway I am curious how left handed gamers handle the utter lack of left handed mice on the market. I have only seen one and thats by Razer.
We don't. I use my right hand for my mouse. You just learn to deal with it.

I do lots of things with my right hand. Sports, punching my enemies, jacking off. Writing is the only thing I use my left hand for usually.

I'm left handed, and I remember an option to invert your hands on Counter Strike: Source to the left. Honestly I felt it was weird. Just too used to having the gun and hands on the right side of the screen, even though I'm left handed in airsofting. Same goes for third person cameras as well, oddly enough.

It doesn't affect me. all i have to do is push a button. the orientation of the animation isn't that significant in this case.

If it doesn't make a difference which hand I put what in I'll probably play a left handed dude. It's rarely a big deal for me though, unless I'm playing on the wii, which I do as little as possible.

Well with the recent coming of skyrim I wondered about something, Being right handed shields are nearly always formatted for the left, However my question is if your Left handed would you prefer your sword in the left and shield in the right. Does it extend to the game, And actually impact the game play. Would the ability to reformat the shield to right and weapon to left be better for you?

I honestly don't know, As a right-handed gamer I have always had the default. And don't know if it would impact me otherwise.

EDIT: My poll was ate.
A friend of mine is left handed and I can honestly tell you he never finishes games that prevent him from switching the layout. Even if it's just the triggers and the analogue sticks. He wants an exact mirror to the right handed. He even modified a PC controller so to mirror the button layout.
Can't the designers of PC and/or Console hardware make the controllers ambidextrous?

Well, being a lefty, I have just gotten used to the norm, so I really don't mind.

Though I was going to be a complete ninja dual wielding daggers, so it doesn't really matter in the first place.

I only write left handed, so right handed guns/weapons have never bothered me.

When I pull the triggers on a controller in Oblivion, I don't think of it as me swinging my arms, so it doesn't make a difference.

I'm not left handed, but that made me think of a question. Could you have a shield in both hands? If so, it would be like Call of Duty riot shielding all over again...
god, riot shielding was so much fun! i'm surprised like almost no one did it. dual wielding riot shields OH SHIT i think i just... overexerted... heart condition...

I'm left handed, but a little ambidextrous. I've never had a problem with sword and shield setups and never even thought about it being an issue. However, one thing I can only do left handed is write so I've run into some problems with using the DS stylus lefty on games that use the d-pad and stylus at the same time.

Though I am a lefty, I'm not all that bothered by controls and aesthetics of games. I've gotten used to them over time, but I do have my mouse on the left side of the keyboard. However, when the opportunity presents itself, I do wield my main weapon in the left hand of

Check out a book by James T. deKay entitled "The Natural Superiority of the Left-Hander". Though it can be considered a children's book, it offers some interesting information and insight regarding left-handed people and their impact on the world throughout history.

Well, I'm left handed but I prefer the gun to be on the right side of the screen in FPS's. And I don't even KNOW how I'd hold a sword and shield in real life so....I'm assuming it won't make a difference.

Man, is it just me, or are some righties (not necessarily you, OP, just some people) weirdly confused by us lefties? Seriously, sometimes people see me writing with left hand and they ask me "Is it hard to write like that?" ...No! It's just like being right-handed, but with my left hand! That's why they call it LEFT. HANDED.

...I don't know. It kinda bugs me. Again, not really talking about you, OP.
