I wonder if anyone can help me with this. Many years ago I used to play MDK. There was an enemy in that game that sprinted towards you holding a bomb up in the air. As it ran towards you it made a blood-curdling scream. I have heard this 'scream' in other games, most recently Infamous2 (citizens of New Marais will make this noise when you terrorise them). My question is, does anyone know the story behind this, or why this particular sound keeps cropping up in lots of different games?

Sound Bites, there's tons of them out there and sometimes you'll hear the same sound in different games. Like Screams (fear, anger, dead cries), Gunfire (shotguns, handguns and the ricochets) , Metal hitting flesh (sword or knife), Walking on and or in different surfaces ( Comparing Boots, High Heels, No Shoes on marble, dirt, concrete, metal grating in the water and or snow.) Also don't forget Explosions these are the most reused sounds yet you might not notice because they blend it with other sounds to make'em sound more dramatic.
I've never played it but it wasn't the Wilhelm scream was it?

The Wilhelm has been a running joke amongst sound editors for years so it's entirely possible you'll hear a good scream recycled. There's another one they use in ads in my country and I hear it all the time. And that sound effect of a fire starting that everyone uses - kind of like a 'ka-whoosh'. 9 times out of 10 you'll hear it in movie trailers.

Are you sure it was MDK and not Serious Sam?
Serious Sam had headless enemies that ran towards you holding bombs and screaming. I don't remember this being in MDK.
