Erm... well I'm 21 so it really doesn't matter what my mum thinks about this game does it?

This marketing ploy of a mum test makes no sense to me. If you are old enough to buy it (18+) why would your mum's opinion ever matter in deciding to buy the game?

You can see it looks violent and badass from trailers and clips and that's reason enough for me. The mum test marketing ploy seems like it would appeal to an audience younger than the game is intended for.

I was raised mostly by my grandparents, and they were the ones that got me my first computer for Christmas '85, and my first game console, a NES a few years later.

A few years ago after my grandmother started to get ill I decided to have her move in with me, none of her children were all that interested in looking after her, nor my siblings or cousins, and I was enraged at the idea of her being left alone in a retirement community, so I packed up all my junk and moved us to a better area for her (much warmer) and it did wonders, it's like she's 20 years younger, of course I get some flack from people that I live with my grandmother, but screw them, she looked after me, I'll be damned to hell if I don't look after her.

Anyway back on-topic, growing up she and my grandfather played a few games with me, but she can't get her head around the latest games, but that doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy them. We often spend a quiet winter night in the lounge room, me with the latest game on the 360, and her with her knitting offering choice bits of commentary. She loved the GTA games for example, would always be joking around, and on one memorable occasion while I was playing Prototype she told me to drive a tank down the sidewalk, making comments about how Melbourne streets would be much easier to get around if you could that in real life.

So I think she'd like it.
Your grandma sounds awesome.

OT: My Mum would most likely say something like "Eww that's horrible", but not in a totally serious way. She cares more about swearing than gore.

She claim's it's going to scar me for life and make me mortally scarred.

Does that answer your question? xDDD

She'd say something like "that looks awful" and go off to make herself some tea or whatever.

If I was 13 instead of 21 she might care more, now she does not.

I quote my mother from this very night, as I was playing Dead Space: Extraction in the living room.

"Hmm, this is like that film... what was it? The Thing? Yeah. Ooh look there's loads of them". (Picks up second wiimote and nunchuck.

She's not as accurate as me, but she knows how to use the rock hammer.

She'd be indifferent to it at first, then once she started playing she'd get into it and wouldnt mind.

Makes me feel old when I think about kids needing their parent's permission to play a video game, and that it matters what their parents think about what video games they play.. and today's my birthday too.

The only games my mum has liked were the Uncharted games and Red Dead Redemption.

Watching that whole ad was hilarious tho.

my mom approaches all games except the ones my dad played with us (old fashioned puzzle and adventure games) with the same uninterested look.

You know what? I have no idea. My best guess is that she probably wouldn't enjoy it but I doubt she'd hat it. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that she'd enjoy it though.

I cant even begin to describe how much my mom would hate dead space 2, she also hates TF2, and most video games in general

My mom says she likes horror, but lets be honest dead space 2 will be a gory shockfest chock full of senseless violence. Good for me bad for her.

She would be shocked and dismayed. It would confirm all her worst fears about video games.

Luckily I no longer live with her. SO it wouldn't be an issue.

My mother in all honesty would react like this:
ME: "Hey mother, I just bought this game"
MOM: "Oh really? Let me see ... That's just gross, why would you play that?"
ME: "Because it's fun"
MOM: "Oh ok."

In short, she doesn't like it, but doesn't care if I play it or not.

My mom likes horror, but the only games she likes are Tetris Plus, Super Mario Bros. 3, Bookworm and Galaga. She actively hates every other game.

My mum doesn't like games, especially violent ones, but she's not stupid enough to think it's going to have any effect on me. She's awesome like that.
So she would not enjoy Dead Space 2, but she won't call it a "dangerous, mind-numbing, mind-altering weapon."
