They should build a full size Mecha-Godzilla and Mecha-King Ghidorah and place them in an optimum geographical location, so they're squaring off against each other across a bay or valley.

Alternatively, they could also choose an original mecha from Super Robot Wars, considering how a lot of shows owe their renewed popularity thanks to it. Personally, I would go with the Lion. Second only to the Huckenbeim (which is a ripoff of Gundam) in terms of mass-produced models and boasts a preety unique design:
But regardless of what they end up choosing, I would perfer if they chose a Real Robot. Not just beacuse I prefer Real Robots, but also beacuse their smaller sizes make it more likely they will be built in full scale. Personally, I find it kind of lame when they have to restrict themselves to recreating the torso or even just the head, beacuse it would be too big to build otherwise.

I think they should continue working on their Gundam until it is fully armed and operational. I'm sure it will take the focus off of a nuclear Iran and/or North Korea.

The coolest mech ever! Mad Cat may be iconic, but its stock weaponry is unbalanced, while this is just perfect. And looks great.
The problem is Japanese will certainly stick some school-boy in it, Chinese will make cheap plastic knock-off with half firepower, Russians will remove its legs, arms and torso, installing only cockpit with weaponry on tank chassis, while Americans will will waste couple of EU budgets on R&D, build ten perfect machines and cancel project due to high cost and contract bribery.
I doubt we'll ever see combat mechs at this rate=(.
