I rage quit after 1 day.

When a game penalizes you for screwing you over, it's not worth my time.

Strike #1: Mining happily, several Diamond, 3 stacks of Redstone and various other ore, all lost when bumped into a lava pit.

Strike #2: Same thing.

Strike #3: When the game crashes (which it seems to frequently) it saves everything related to your character, but nothing related to the world.

E.G. I used all my remaining resources to craft enough tools to drive a new mine shaft. 100 meters into the new shaft the game crashed. Upon reentering the game, the shaft had been filled in and my character was stuck in stone and was promptly killed with no way to retrieve my last remaining items.

NO, BAD GAME.
Play on peaceful mode, it's fun if you don't want much of a challenge, and can be quite relaxing.

OT: Yes, I love the game. But my only complaint (and this is completely my fault) is that I don't have a big enough imagination to play it, god I wish I had a better imagination so I could appreciate it more.
Irritatingly stupid rules and conditions are not the hallmark of a challenging game. They're the hallmark of an irritatingly stupid game.

I'm not interested in minecraft. The game has gone far into the realm of "overhyped" and has thus triggered my hype-related "apathy alarm". I've done some research in the game. I watched some videos, heard people's opinions. Sadly it looks like a game of "The Sims" played with Wolfenstein 3D era graphics and I'm just not gonna be happy with that because there's no bloodthirsty nazis to murder, that and I really hated "The Sims" so a game that seems similar to it is unlikely to inspire genuine interest.

And this the point where people tell me that you can't hate it until you play it. An asinine point of view, considering that throwing money at a game you are sure you won't like is rarely going to make a situation where the game impresses you and makes you a long time fan. Likely it will just confirm your suspicions all along and now you just paid for a game you hate and won't ever play.

Also because I don't hate it, I just don't care.
wait, Sims?? It is nothing like the Sims in any way.

oh well, if you don't like the game, then that's your view, I don't care if you don't like the game, and never have suggested that you are wrong to hate it. I was simply saying that peaceful is easier. On a side note, I don't see how dying in game is stupid, doesn't that happen in lots of games?

I have a friend who started a server, and he's pretty hooked on it, so I'll probably end up playing a lot in coming weeks.

It's a lot of fun when we're hanging out, but I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy it on my own.

you're probably using the "far" setting. Don't use it it crashes the game. Use normal or lower. If you have to use "far" save a lot in between mining.

Also sorry for the double post >.<

Well If Shamus does it...

Actually I like Minecraft. It's still a bit simple for anything besides building massive projects but its fun nonetheless.

Just got it today, and I'm pretty impressed so far. The survival aspect is quite interesting, although I am in a bit of a rut in respect to my coal reserves (in that I don't have any) besides that, my little compound is shaping up nicely, got a curtain wall with buttresses and a parapet, my underground house with all my stuff in it with a mine/quarry, and a small outbuilding that I may use as a workshop for ease of access.

I'd like to play it but:

A. It costs moneyz
B. Even if I did haz teh moneyz for it, it's in euros.
What is the problem with it being in euros? I'm from the US like you. I just used my paypal, it was 9 something in euros, but in dollars it is something like 14 something.

-----------

I just started playing it over the weekend. Question for the people that play it a lot, what is special about Peaceful mode? I decided to start in peaceful mode on my third go, because when I was in normal or easy, I couldn't build a shelter in time and I would always get killed, usually by the exploding creepers, I usually quit when that happened because the explosions were so big it would always destroy my shelter.

Now in peaceful mode, I have noticed that no enemies have been spawning at night like they normally do. Is it that now they only spawn in the darkness of caves, because in peaceful mode nothing spawns out in the open at night? I'm not complaining, I would just like to know because if so it will double my explore time. I prefer being able to run around at night not having to fear the baddies, at least on my first play through so I can learn the ropes.

I wanted to know, do enemies show up in peaceful mode, I noticed that nothing spawns at night in peaceful mode. I'm glad, but I just wanted to make sure before I go running around at night. I suspect the answer is no baddies spawning at night, but they still spawn in dungeons, because even though I am playing in peaceful mode, I still here that creepy music that plays as an alert that I am close to a dungeon.

no, enemies don't appear day, night, or in dungeons. The only thing you have to worry about are slimes, but only big ones.

Slimes are non hostile creatures which spawn on peaceful mode, but due to a bug, rarely big ones spawn (the ones that can hurt you).

Don't worry slimes are REALLY rare to encounter, I have been playing for a while with other people and as far as I know no one has encountered slimes yet.

If you're on the shore line you can ignore/avoid creeps easily. Keep a boat near you and mine surface resources. Once they head towards your position run to the boat, take off, and watch them disappear into the darkness.

I play it,it's aazing, and I'm currently building a massive spire that pierces the heavens, and is capped with a grand beacon flame. On the same structure,a spiral mine shaft. All walled in,and it will possess a bailey, with several buildings within for the awesome factor. To cap it all off, when it's done construction,I'll crank the difficulty to hard, and see how long I can hold out against the onslaught of zombies, spiders, skeletons and creepers.
I'm also thinking of making an epic underground rail system, sparsely lit, allowing creatures to spawn. Cure Bow+Arrow cart-bys...
