Questions: CoD4 for PC

How common are servers on the PC version of CoD4 that don't ban weapons or perks (I don't mind Martyrdom / Last Stand being banned)?

I'm a firm believer that CoD4's weapons are very well balanced (outside of the underpowered Mini-Uzi and possibly G3) and that Juggernaut is fine in the presence of Stopping Power. Normally I'd just stick to playing it on my PS3, but the PS3 version has had some weird glitch / error with it that causes it to fail to start up when the systems connected to the internet (look up "Confirm Yes / No CoD4 PS3" to see what I'm talking about) that's been happening for months now with no word from Activision / IW that it's ever going to get fixed. Combined with the fact that I've been getting into PC gaming thanks to TF2 and Portal 2 (getting a copy for PC with the purchase of the PS3 version was brilliance on Valve's part), I've been thinking of getting it for PC. However, I don't feel like playing servers that water down the game imo or ban people for playing strategically (Yes, I also support camping). So would I be able to consistently get in servers for players like me, or should I just pass on getting it for PC?

I really don't want to have another week-long debate with an entire message board over this, so all I'm going to say is this: Sometimes you need to hold the line to achieve victory and defense is an important part of any fight.

Anyways I don't see a way to tell what the rules are to these servers or if I'm going to be kicked for using something an admin doesn't like. Doesn't help me much there, but thanks anyway.

Just join a server, if the admin bans you for a stupid reason, then consider it a good thing, move to a better server.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea initially, but a lot of people hate a lot of things and I don't want to get CoD4 for PC if I'm just going to get banned every other match because of some gun / perk setup I use or because I sometimes play more reserved and cautious - hence why I'm asking you guys about how it is on the PC version. Is there a way to tell what setups are banned before entering a match?

Defending objectives is different from camping. There's no way to tell which servers will ban for what unless it's in the name (look at the link again more carefully) or you just have to join to find out. Not all servers have those rules and not all servers have admins on 24/7 to police everyone.

And what's wrong with MW3? It's got new maps, better balancing, strike packages, new kill streaks.

MW3 is decently balanced overall, but the Cod4 guns are better balanced.

lol. You're just not going to be satisfied until I reinstall the game and check all the servers are you?

Not moving for any significant amount of time qualifies as camping, not just sitting in a corner on an empty part of the map. Doesn't matter whether you're near an objective, blocking off a choke point, or just keeping your distance - stay still for more than a few seconds at most and players will accuse you of being a camper. Btw I'm not trying to be an ass if I am.

As for MW3, I can't stand it. The maps are claustraphobic sets of corridors; the spawn system deliberately spawns enemies right around the corner or within line-of-sight for revenge kills; the weapon balance is better than BLOPs but still terrible, with guns that are completely outclassed by other guns (Skorpion, UMP, MP5, AA-12, Spas-12, Dragunov, M16, and CM901 just to name a few); Secondaries that not only can compete with primaries, but can be dual wielded with improved hipfire accuracy to boot; and deathstreaks like Dead Man's Hand and Final Stand that are incredibly powerful rewards players get for losing. At least Martyrdom and Last Stand were fairly weak and were easy to deal with - Final Stand gives players full health, lets them use their primary, lets them move around, and brings them back to life while Dead Man's Hand is essentially a legalized version of MW2's Javelin Glitch. *shudders* That's not even a full list of everything that irritates me about this game, but I'll just stop this little rant here.

Anyways thanks for the info everybody. Probably will get it for PC, though I do wish IW would fix the f*cking game so I could play it on PS3 again.
