"Ooo, you speak x language!? Say something in x language!" Does anyone know what to say in any language when asked that?
Also, "Do you like football?" Being English, everyone in this country (China) seems to think we like football. I've nothing against it but I won't watch i if I have a choice.
I get the first question all the time whenever I tell someone (or when they happen to find out) that I took a single course of Japanese. They always go "Say something in Japanese!" and I'll either spout complete gibberish or say they're an idiot in Japanese. What makes this question worse, is they then ask me what I said... What the fuck is the point of saying something in a different language to prove I can speak that language, if they then ask me what I said?! Nevermind the fact that
learning a new language is really fucking hard to do, and cannot be done in one goddamn term.
I get "Do you like hockey?" all the time from Americans. As a Canadian, I like Hockey because it is interesting, not because I am Canadian. Yes I cheer for the Canadian team in international sports, but I don't cheer for a team because of how many Canadians are on it, what Canadian city it is in, or what Canadian owns the team. I cheer for the Boston Bruins because of how they play and for no other reason >_>
Two questions I hate getting are: "What are you taking?" in regards to my University schoolings and "What do you want to do?" usually after asking what I am taking.
The reason I hate these questions, is that no one that asks me these questions gives a fuck. They are just making conversation and being polite. If anyone gave a damn about me, they'd probably know what I am taking or know what I want to do with the schoolings I am taking. Occasionally someone will go "yeah, I took classes like that" or have something to say about it that requires thought and isn't an auto-generated "How I mine fish?" response.
Repetitive questions also bother me. Thats why I usually go "oh great, another one of these threads" here on the Escapist. But I think we can all agree that those suck.
