I've got one day to choose one of these ultra-classic games (for free) and mind mind is fucked. HELP
Need opinions, biases, anything that could help me decide.

are games that I remember fondly, but I were too young at that time to be really able to play or understand what was going on

I want to buy something that I'm acutally going to enjoy (not just because of nostalgia) and have an awesome time.

I would go for The longest Journey I played it a few years ago and it was amazing and I am really not a fan of point and click games in general. Of the others on that list I have played they have their own charm but also parts that I really didnt care for whereas with the longest journey I enjoyed every second of it.

The only ones I've played on that list are beyond Good and Evil and Neverwinter Nights.

I barely remember either, but I do know that both were good and Neverwinter will last you significantly longer.

Depends on what kind of gameplay style you prefer. There is a lot of gold on your list. The games I prefer would be:

Baldur's Gate series
Fallout
PS: Torment
Dungeon Keeper
Jagged Alliance 2

The first three are classic RPGs with top down tactical combat. They are all excellent. PS:T probably being the best of them, but also the one with the least combat.

Dungeon Keeper is a real-time dungeon building/management sim with quirky humour and long campaigns.

Jagged Alliance 2 is probably one of the best tactical games on the scale of individual combatants. With a little RPG flavour put in for good measure.

However I just noticed Neverwinter Nights up there. It's a fantastic game, with a still live multiplayer community and a lot of fantastic mods. You can't go wrong with either one.

UT2004 for sure. Though I'm biased because me and my former roommate decided to try out some of those games (most notably fallouts 1 and 2 because of renewed interest people had in those games so we heard a lot about how good they were). We thought they were pretty bad to be honest, they just haven't aged well. Could be I never played 'em before but still didn't think they held up whereas I feel Unreal Tournament 2004 is entertaining as hell still. The rest I'm not sure about.

Baldur's Gate (1&2 - especially 2), Fallout (1&2 - especially 2) and Jagged Alliance 2 are all lenghty and very enjoyable games (slightly less so for JA2) but are all VERY outdated. The interface is horrible, they are very low resolution and they look bad. If you can get past that however, they are awesome.

Baldur's Gate games are deep, immersive RPG experiences with a rather serious plot line and fairly good combat mechanics (not a great fan of old d&d rules). Fallout games have a great sense of humour and an awesome game world, are also very deep and immersive and the game mechanics are slightly better in my opinion. Both will offer you many hours of fun.

JA2 is an XCOM-ish tactics game (as far as most of the gameplay is concerned). There isn't much in the way of story, game world or characters, but I've had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

If not I'd go for Serious Sam First+Second Encounter. Especially if you have someone to play co-op with. They still look good enough an the gameplay is extraordinary.

i did not play "Jagged Alliance" and "The Feeble flies" but from others I would chose Beyond Good And Evil since it has awesome story line, interesting game play and nostalgia is fun with the game. I know you said to NOT BE ONLY for nostalgia but consider Baldur's Gate due to being one of the best rpg games back in time, and when i search some top RPG game Baldur's Gate is ALWAYS on the list. That being said i think once nostalgia takes over you from Baldur's Gate you will also get into simple game play of bashing mobs and turn only nostalgia to having a great time

Just to add, Fallout 3 would be best pick FOR ME, but since you only putted 1+2, i wouldnt chose it if i weren't heat up for that kind of rpg game so to say.

Out of the ones you've listed the only ones I've played are Duke Nukem 3D and Fahrenheit, so I'll say to get Fahrenheit. It's pretty freakin' good. Unless the Unreal games there are anything like UC2 and UT3, in which case I'm kind of torn between Fahrenheit and those ones.

Edit: Soddit, go with Fahrenheit. It's a great game.

Wait how the fuck is Fahrenheit a classic? Stay away from this game at all costs. Terrible gameplay, a weird sex scene quick time event, and writing that goes from B grade movie to retarded internet fanfic by a middle schooler level quality. I honestly can't believe I finished the game, but that was more morbid curiosity than enjoyment. I have no idea why anyone has any respect for David Cage's writing ability.

Anyways, it really depends on what you want from a game.

Commandos can be fun because its kind of a violent open ended puzzle solver(in a way.)

Duke Nukem is really pretty much exactly like Doom/Heretic/Hexen/Wolfenstein. It's a fun old school FPS.

Fallout 1 and 2 have nifty turn based combat if that's your thing, a lot of roleplaying depth built into their character generation system, really interesting and unique lore, and some of the best dialogue writing of any videogame.

Most of the above also goes for Planescape Torment as well, BIS knew how to make good RPGs.

I'd suggest staying away from the original NWN. Not that the gameplay is bad, just that the singleplayer is bad and the multiplayer scene probably isn't around anymore.

Both Painkiller and Serious Sam are really well done quake 2 style FPS games. Lots of fighting, lots of interesting weapons. Whereas some of the older games you listed can feel pretty clunky, these two hold up really well against newer more 'polished' games.

I never actually played the original Longest Journey as it does not work on my system. If you are getting it through GOG or some source that has compatibility patches(or run an older OS,) you should be good to go. I've heard only good things about it, and I really liked it's sequel Dreamfall. And if it's anything like said sequel it will have extremely interesting characters, settings, and well done dialogue. So if that's your thing I'd say go for it.

The Ultima games were really important to the development of the videogame industry, but I think it's more nostalgia than anything. So if you can only get the first 4 games I would probably stay away. If you could get U6, U7, U8 then I would say definitely go for it, but otherwise you should pass.
