quick question about 360 VGA cord...

Are you using the mic slot or a differeng line-in? At any rate, try opening up a sound recording program. Even something as simple as that Windows sound recorder should help. Check to make sure the line-in isn't muted, and see if you can get a reaction out of the recording mechanism (try recording something, see if the equalizer bars jump, etc.). Also, sometimes I find that using a line-in slot just makes things really quiet, so you might have to up the volume.

OK, so I got the adapter, plugged everything in, and it still doesn't work...

I have 3 holes on the back of my computer for sound and niether one of them work when I plug in the adapter

Are there differant types of adapters because I'm going to be pissed if I got the wrong one.

Don't plug the Y-adapter into your computer, plug a pair of headphones into the other end and use that (although it sounds like you got the wrong kind, it should have a 3 female ends.)

Where do I go to open Windows sound? I can't find it in my programs

Hmmm. If your sound card doesn't HAVE a line in, I would try putting your adapter into the mic port (colored pink) and opening Sound Recorder (Accessories -> Entertainment under XP) to see if it picks up anything. And, of course, check Volume Control to make sure everything is un-muted and turned up and whatnot.

The other adapter (with 3 female ports) would let you plug in your headphones directly, but theoretically the computer should be able to do this for you. You aren't using any external speakers, right?

no, no speakers, just my usb headphones.
And I checked my audio devices and it was in the recording tab... Shouldn't it be in the playback tab?

edit: I tried it after I unmuted it and no luck. I'm pretty sure that it shouldn't be in the recording tab

anyone know how I would be able to move it?
