Apparently I can download album artwork from the iTunes store, for music imported to iTunes rather than purchased from the store (e.g. uploaded from a CD). Question: is this free, or do I have to pay for said artwork?

I don't know about downloading it, but if you type the album name into google pictures, then copy the picture, and paste it in 'song info', it has the same effect.

Yeah it's free. iTunes can either attempt to do it itself which is usually fine or sometimes you might need to do it manually, which isn't difficult. It depends just how old and obscure some of your albums are.

I didn't know that was possible. Thanks.

I hate not having it, but apparently iTunes can't find stuff like Blink 182 or Motorhead covers.

That's the problem I have with it - for a lot of albums, it either gave me the wrong cover, or it couldn't find it. I realise that some of the bands I listen to are pretty obscure, but Blink 182? Something is very wrong there.

If you don't have that many albums that are missing covers, then I second the suggestion that you Google the album cover. If you select all the songs in the album, then drag the image into the...space for album covers, then it should assign a cover to all the selected songs. Just another way to do it.

It tends to just grab the first image tagged with the band name, and if that happens to be a picture of Lemmy from an interview, then it makes that the cover for Ace of Spades. Annoying, but better than the blank cover, and you can always go fix it.

I do this all the time, espessially when itunes matches the wrong artwork to the CD I loaded.

If you're having difficulty with the feature, a good alternative is the program MP3tag. It's a similar idea, but it fully tags the album drawing from Musicbrainz/Amazon/Discogs databases.
